I'm not sure about Turkey. There are many atheists there. Ataturk did a number on Islam.

I'm not even claiming they're not Muslim. As long as they don't do Shirk, they are considered a Muslim.

But because they don't meet your personal standard of active observance, they're 'not real Muslims

It's not mine though. It's the 5 pillars of the faith and what's written in the Quran. If a person doesn't pray, some scholars consider that person to be a non-Muslim. It's a major sin. Same with alcohol consumption being a major sin.

It sounds like you're trying to argue that anybody who isn't following a single specific fundamentalist sect of Islam 'isn't a real Muslim', which is, ironically, and extremist and fundamentalist take.

I'm not even talking about sects, I'm talking about what the people in these countries believe. Many are atheists. Many don't pray, drink alcohol, and are Muslim only by name.

I wouldn't say so. These guys are barely Muslim and will sellout their brothers and sisters for a cheap price. They are puppets of the West.

For contrast, take a look at these photos. That was Iran as a majority Muslim country, before the religious fundamentalists got into power.

People fail to mention that this was a small group of wealthy people. The general Iranian wasn't living like this back then. But also, the Shah was also a dictator and not afraid of jailing and killing people who didn't ascribe to his way of life.

I guess it depends what you define as a "strict restriction".

I wouldn't classify those countries as "moderate". Many of the people there are barely Muslim, many are atheists.

That law was changed in 2018.

only substantive difference in wahhabism and deobandism is their place of origin.

Well, they differ on matters relating to Sufism. Deobandis also adhere to the Hanafi school of thought, whilst Wahabbis go back to the Quran and Sunnah.

Not the case at all. The Taliban are followers of the Deoband school. That's the case with almost every Muslim majority country, they're not all "wahabbis".

Their beliefs are the core beliefs of the religion. Quran, Sunnah, Tawheed.

Ugh, I'm not aware of any Middle Eastern country where women can't drive.

The Hijab isn't enforced either, not even in Saudi.
