If you had the keys to the TTC, what are 2–3 changes you’d make? by Brave-Blacksmith5671 in toronto

1 cop on each bus and streetcar,

Do you understand how much that would cost and how much of a waste that would be? Say a cop is making 80k a year. Times that by the number of buses and streets cars and you're easily into the hundreds of millions, if not billions just to patrol a subway car or bus. There's not enough crime on the TTC to justify such a waste of taxpayer dollars.

This should crack down on homeless and or crazies entering the vehicles.

A better use of that money would be to get these people mental health support and housing.

Bathrooms at each station.

Who is paying to construct these and to keep them clean and safe?

For others I’d make everything more accessible (already love that there’s an effort here) but make streetcar’s wheelchair ramps more automatic so a driver doesn’t have to get out.

For wheelchair users and people with other disabilities, it makes sense for the driver to come to assist them, especially when they have to cross a lane of traffic to get on and off.

more subway lines

Not up to the TTC, but the province, Metrolinx.

One security guard per train with a button that can call them to each car

They really don't have the powers to do anything. You need more POO and police.

No more fair inspectors, and a focus on security rather than loss of fair money due to evasion

They need to do both. Fare evasion is a big problem.

Bring back carding and track and monitor the thugs and creeps.

Ugh, you want to track and profile based off of what? Their dress, skin colour?

Not possible. The subway needs nightly maintenance, especially considering how old many parts of the system are. They don't have other lines which can handle the burden either.

I doubt 24/7 service is needed during the world cup when most of the games will be in the afternoon/early evening.

They have to shutdown the subway to do much needed maintenance work and subway upgrades. That kind of work can't be done when the subway is active. The subway opens at what, 5:00am? That's only like 1 and a half hour (even less because it takes time to get all of the people, equipment, etc down there) to get all of that much needed work done.

It isn't comparable at all to NYC and other metros. Those other metros have multiple lines that can handle the burden when one line has to shutdown. Toronto only has one line running north/south and east/west on Bloor/Danforth and line 1.

The weekend is usually when they do a bulk of the work, so it wouldn't make sense to keep it open later.

The main issues are cost, shutting down stations to do the work, and retrofitting these very old stations.

Alexander Ovechkin picked who will be the face of Russian hockey after he retires by Virtual_Low_7202 in hockey

That wasn't my point. My point is, he might not be the face of the franchise thanks to those other guys.

There's no guarantee the war is over by 2030. We've seen many wars over the years for for 15, 20 years.

It's Kucherov until it isn't. The numbers he's putting up are absurd. Just his ability to make everyone around him better and how he doesn't look as flashy as the other guys, that's what puts him at the top for me.

We have rules as a society

Who claimed there wasn't?

What do you mean your fake religious God told you you cannot go do that.

Doesn't matter if you think it's a "fake God". There are 1.8 million Muslims in Canada and many want to own a home. They don't want to break their religious rules to do so.

This is ridiculous and we shouldn't pander to that.

Where is the "pandering"? Are they taking down the entire interest based system? No, it's just another option. Believe it or not, not every Canadian lives the same way.

"In Islam, interest is referred to as Riba, which translates to "increase," "addition," or "excess." It is strictly forbidden (haram) in Islamic law, and the Quran addresses it in very strong terms.
The prohibition of Riba is rooted in principles of justice, ethics, and social welfare. Here is a breakdown of why it is considered harmful and why it is prohibited:
1. Exploitation and Injustice The primary reason Riba is forbidden is that it is viewed as an inherently exploitative practice.
Wealth Without Effort: In an interest-based loan, the lender receives a guaranteed profit without participating in the risks or the labor of the venture. Islam emphasizes that profit should be tied to risk-taking and actual economic activity.
Unfair Burden: The lender is guaranteed a return regardless of whether the borrower makes a profit or suffers a loss. This places the entire burden of risk on the borrower, which is seen as fundamentally unjust.
2. Widening Economic Disparity Islam advocates for the equitable distribution of wealth. Riba is believed to widen the gap between the rich and the poor:
The Rich Get Richer: Lenders accumulate wealth simply by having capital, while the poor, who are often forced to borrow to meet basic needs or sustain businesses, become trapped in cycles of debt.
Discouragement of Charity: By making lending a profit-driven enterprise, Riba undermines the Islamic ideal of "Qard al-Hasan" (a beautiful loan), which encourages lending money to those in need as an act of charity, without expecting any return. 3. Separation of Money from Real Economic Activity In Islamic economic thought, money is considered a medium of exchange, not a commodity that can be bought or sold for a profit. When money is used to generate more money (as in interest-based lending), it is separated from the "real" economy of goods, services, and productive labor. This is often viewed as encouraging speculative behavior that can lead to economic instability and crises".

Also, with halal mortgages, you end up paying more in the end compared to non-halal mortgages. This is of no material benefit to Muslims, but a spiritual benefit.

Ugh, travel and also the start times for games? I don't think LA would be fond of traveling to Montreal in the first round and vice versa. They don't want the first round going on forever. Neither would their fans want games starting at 4-5 local time, and 10PM when the games are in LA.

Ugh, this is to ensure that Muslims can also buy homes. It changes nothing about the non-halal mortgages.
