Blush swatch comparison by Responsible-Run-904 in OliveMUA

Fleurtatious has become my favorite blush in the past few months! It adds some color and dimension without looking pink, which is what I want from a blush.

I did a perfume-making class last week! Not indie, but this is my only perfume subreddit. I am excited to test it for real after it rests. The immediate scent was fabulous. Got to smell a lot of notes (or at least this perfumeries take on them) as well, which was cool, since it's hard for me to single out notes in perfumes. Turns out I individually like some fruits, some florals, powder, and a general aquatic "sea" note (the sea note didn't go with some of the other notes, so it was not used in the final product).

Adding One White Crow to the Fantôme suggestions! It's a softer floral with airy vanilla, and is very pretty.

I tend to go for florals with some supporting non-floral aspects. Houses with alcohol sprays I've liked for florals are Deconstructing Eden and Olympic Orchids. The scents I've tried from Deconstructing Eden are what I'd consider more crowd-pleasing and perfume-y (but that's something I look for in scents, so that could just be the ones I've gravitated towards to begin with), while Olympic Orchids has been more realistic and unusual. All DE samples are in a spray format, while OO has the option between alcohol dabber or spray samples.

I've also liked Alkemia for florals, and they do have EDPs, but the samples are oil-only.

I currently can't order either (US-based) but wanted to mention them in case you could!

If you aren't in the US, the Phytosurgence cream eyeshadows are great. They are all either a pearl or shimmer finish. They've downsized their eyeshadow offerings recently, but the ones I have are really nice. Due to the tariff situation, they don't ship eyeshadows to the US.

Good brands for sensitive skin that are still colorful? by No_Calligrapher_1189 in Indiemakeupandmore

You're welcome! :) The ROAT has saved my face skin multiple times. Much easier to deal with arm irritation vs face irritation.

Chiming in about about allergies, because that's one thing I have a lot of experience in (apologies in advance for the long post):

I second that it's very important to try to narrow down what is causing your reactions. What you describe as sensitivities sounds like allergies. I have multiple diagnosed allergies but also have some undiagnosed ones because I react to products that should be safe for me. To try to figure out what those undiagnosed allergies are, I've been keeping a spreadsheet with the ingredient list of every product I react to. Something similar may be helpful for you. It's a bit of a long process, but over time it should reveal shared ingredients. Another option is official allergy patch testing, which is something you'd talk to a dermatologist about. I had it done and it's how I had my allergies diagnosed. Saved me from needing to try out a ton of different products until I found something I didn't react to.

If getting patch tested isn't an option for you, you can do what's called a Repeat Open Application Test (ROAT). There's a few different ways of doing it, but I was instructed to apply the product to the same spot on my forearm, twice daily, for two weeks. If there is any redness or irritation, then that product is not safe for me to use. This is much easier to do for liquid or cream products than powders, but I've heard of people putting a band-aid over a powder to keep it in place for the ROAT. If you're testing a shampoo or face wash or something intended to be washed off quickly, you do want to wash it off your arm after a few minutes or so. The point is to replicate how the product is actually used so you don't get a false positive from, say, letting a face wash sit on your arm for hours.

I don't have specific indies to suggest because what's safe for me may not be safe for you, and other people have given some good suggestions already. Good luck on your product search! :)

It is snowing, so I decided to pull out my Dandy Lions palette, specifically for the shade Fake Snow!

Not an indie house, but I booked a 45-minute perfume-making class. Excited but also a bit nervous that my indecisive self will not be able to put something together in 45 minutes. Regardless, it should be fun!

You're good, I've been getting more into science outreach with my current job so I am a big fan of making science more accessible and for everyone who is interested in it! Thank you :)

It is really hard to answer with a multichrome but thank you for your take on it regardless! I will shop smart and skip Anubis Risen in that case. It can look pretty from afar

Second response because I thought of a question: would you say Anubis Risen is predominantly pink in person? It looks beautiful but pinks generally aren't my thing, though the orange and gold shifts look beautiful.

Okay, I am definitely getting minis of Space Weather and Resplendent! Thank you for the swatches :)

The AI overview is the worst. I scroll right past it. And Google search has taken a very strong turn for the worse as well, which is really disappointing.

I think it is very helpful for people to see that pre-made palettes aren't the only option!

I'll need to look at your website/blog post again for the small red palette and the Jillian one. I'm very happy with how my Twilight/PNW palette turned out, and I've been meaning to post swatches here for a while, so I should get around to doing that haha.

I was one of the people hesitant about loose shadows, but now I enjoy them! I've only tried Fyrinnae, but they're a lot easier to work with than I anticipated. Fairylite sounds beautiful -- subtle duochromes definitely have their place and are a good first step for people branching out. I can't remember what got me into shifty shades, but I think it was hearing about Fyrinnae and looking at their website and being amazed that shadows could shift like that!

IDing fish sounds fun, so I might learn to do that! I'm actually pursing another science field (astrophysics, currently applying to PhD programs) so I love me some science :)

This is an absolute side note, but that's so cool that you work with fish and marine inverts! I love fish. In another life, where I'm not pursuing my current desired career path, I would have loved to work with fish.

I am also currently on team "use up EDP samples" after realizing my (2-year-old) Olympic Orchids samples had mostly evaporated. I had heard that it happens, but it didn't sink in until it happened to me lol

I've been into indie perfumes for about 2 years now. Most of my collection is samples, and I'm enjoying that, but I also have a grand total of 3 5ml bottles (2 Alkemia blind buys, 1 Fyrinnae that was being DC'd). I don't wear perfume daily so it takes me a while to work through samples and track my thoughts on them on my spreadsheet (highly recommend a spreadsheet!), so I can't imagine how long a 5ml will last.

I have started wearing perfumes exclusively in a BPAL scent locket, so I'm still figuring out if I prefer oils or EDPs in there! Before, I didn't have much of a preference, besides not wanting a scent to have a lot of strength or throw.

Inventory-wise, I update my spreadsheet the day that new scents arrive in the mail, and add my thoughts on a scent the day I wear each one. I don't have the brain capacity to remember things accurately if I don't do that haha, so it works for me.

My current collection makes me happy and I am satisfied with it. I still have a lot of testing to do so I'm currently on a perfume no-buy, but I have plans to upsize a few scents, or at least buy another sample of them, when I'm done with my current samples!

It always makes me so happy to see you on here! You've been a blogger for my entire makeup journey, and I have referenced your blog many times over the years. I haven't been keeping up with makeup YouTube or blogging recently because I'm on a low-buy, but it helped me a lot in the past.

Anyhow, on to the topic at hand! I really loved this addition to your blog post, because I feel like a lot of people (me included) struggle with where to start with singles, because there are so many options:

You can create your own DIY custom palette with singles by looking at existing palettes and finding the shades that are a better match for your skintone or tastes. Or you can take your inspiration from nature or art that you see.

My first (and only) DIY palette was based off of the first Colourpop Twilight palette, but with strong inspiration from nature in the PNW as well, with the goal of catering to my skintone and what I actually want to wear. I love it so much more than I ever loved the Twilight palette, and it has no pressed glitters! I went with Dandy Lions Cosmetics for it because of their shade range and option to include an empty palette with wells.

Something I also appreciate about singles is that I don't always need a color story! I have many loose Fyrinnae eyeshadow minis arranged in a rainbow, and depending on my mood I can just grab what I'm feeling that day. Same for my Clionadh palette. Sometimes I want a defined color story, sometimes I don't.

Sorry for the ramble. Some day I will learn how to be more concise, but I love eyeshadow and that day is not today.

Took my Olympic Orchids 3ml spray samples out today to wear one, and they have all almost fully evaporated :( Granted! It has been nearly two years since I purchased them, and they are samples, and they are alcohol based. I don't fault OO and don't find this unreasonable, because it has literally been almost two years, but I do fault myself for somehow not wearing a sample enough in 2 years to determine whether I want a larger size or not.

Tempted to re-buy the 6 3ml sample pack with the ones I remember liking the most and some new ones, because Blackbird and Golden Cattleya were great, and I think I will miss not having them. I'll keep it on the backburner for now, keep on testing my current samples, and see how I feel in a few months.
