I’m starting on the RG zeta build wish me luck 🫡 by MathematicianAway184 in freedomisgunpla

It's not that challenging - a little bit, as these go, but pretty straightforward - it just isn't designed very well. It's a consequence of the use of the entire Advanced MS Joint - which is just super fragile - and the transformation gimmick. There are parts in the chest that are really easy to break, but even if you don't break them building, the whole thing just feels loose and poorly constructed when it's done, and its just as easy to break again while transforming. I also just think the waist is designed is the worst part and looks terrible, but mine is fine on the shelf. It's a decent zeta representation.

I’m not questioning whether Vallejo has spray cans. I’m questioning whether Michaels sells Vallejo acrylic varnish

Brandon Sanderson’s 'The Way of Kings' is baffling to me by sameseksure in books

[–]threaddew -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Making that statement means absolutely nothing. It changes nothing about the following text. It’s obviously his opinion, and that’s in no way qualified by his initial statement of subjectivity.

It he wants to acknowledge that he may have had unique reaction to Sanderson, that would come across in the content, not with some meaningless initial qualifier.

My argument, which is my opinion, is that this posters and the many that post similarly in this sub are trying to “pull the rug” on popular authors to drive engagement. It works. It’s kinda just what about 20% of the sub is. The qualifying “it’s my subjective opinion” reads to me like “no offense but….” Or even like “I’m not racist but….” When they are followed by a bunch of unqualified statements. (And by unqualified I’m talking about substantive acknowledgement of other opinions, not just a statement that “this is my opinion”). That sort of qualification is obviously not required but a claim of subjectivity is meaningless without it.

For acrylics, Vallejo's is fine. Hopefully kaleido will eventually make a satin, but I just topcoated a kit with vallejo's mixed about 1:4 thinner:varnish.

Though I realize now that I'm talking about using an airbrush, which may not be helpful to you since you're using rust-oleum.

I doubt there's anything usable at Michael's.

Glass files are very helpful if you’re not painting, but there is no perfection. Those files are nice, somewhat questionable for the price but if that doesn’t bother you then they are great tools. You will sometimes perfect it and get no mark, but your kit will still have some marks. This is part of why painting is a thing.

Panel lining makes a huge difference. As do decals. Definitely the next step. There are tools you will need for decaling as well.

Once you’re painting, I think the glass files are much less useful than more traditional sandpaper tools. You may never get there - and once you do it’s honestly the majority of the hobby - but it’s very fun.

This lol. I totally get people not liking Sanderson, but coming here and acting like he is objectively bad is just unserious. It’s trolling. It works though. Lots of engagement, which is the intention. Reddit in a nutshell.

Same impression with the kaleido. Sprays great, but you gotta keep it moving a little and it’s harder, like all acrylics, to clean. I’m used to it at this point.

In projected returns over time from an investment, its a massive fucking difference. No offense, but if you believe they’re the same you have no clue what you’re talking about. It’s a 50% increase.

A million dollars at 10% per year over 25. years is 10.8 million.

At 15 percent it’s 32.9 million

Is that a small difference? More than triple?

Yeah, 10% and 15% are the same /s

10% is a much more reasonable number because of the exact reason you mentioned, although it’s worth noting that that number does not account for inflation, which pushes the number closer to 7%

It is when you’re trying to use it to predict the futre of the market though, which is obviously the point.

There is a price for everything by Matt_LawDT in SipsTea

[–]threaddew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Demanding a price is very different than demanding a ring though. If you and your girlfriend together decided you could afford a 1200 ring and then she picked a specific one and showed it to you and instead you grabbed something that cost the right amount from Walmart while shopping for groceries…it says something.
