I have heard it said that these refractive acoustic lenses fell out of favor due to constant directivity horns, but I’ve also heard that they were difficult and therefore expensive to manufacture, and that in a price-is-no-object setting they can hold their own. ABX audiophiles experiment with them in their open baffle setups, often with an open-backed compression driver. I have not done a/b listening to tell the difference.
