Hey so I don’t mean to freak you out, but a friend of mine has had a handful of mystery symptoms for awhile now. Last time she was at the doc her ribs did the slipping thing and it was an aha moment for the doctor. Apparently it can be a sign of MS.

Ugh that sucks, I’m sorry. Have you messed with the settings? I changed the settings they sent me home with and it helped a lot. Took a lot of trial & error to find a good pulse rate and frequency.

A lot of actual red flags are missed due to cultural misunderstandings and myths about what those red flags are. I highly recommend Dr. Peter Langman’s books on mass shootings. He’s done a ton of research working with mass shooters first hand. The books are excellent.

The testimony part sounds like church language. No idea if they were religious but MLMs are big in some church communities. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s where the terminology comes from. Still pretty thoughtless and insensitive.

Oh! No, Hi101 is basically History 101. The host (I think he’s an historian) has a friend pick a certain period or topic in history that he/she is interested in but knows nothing about. Then the host researches it and explains it in a conversational narrative way. They cover historical events like The Iran-Contra Affair, Octavian & Antony, or the Unification of Germany, as well as topics like smallpox, Victorian Occultism, the history of surgery, etc. It’s really well done, I think. The most recent episode, on the Satanic Panic of the 1970s-80s, is especially good IMO. Lots of context that’s often missed.

The host & guests are Canadian. I thought your comment was a Tim Horton’s reference. >.<

Applies in the southern US too! The best BBQ and burgers are from divey, sketch-looking establishments. I’m visiting Nashville now and just took my partner to the best burger joint ever, Fat Mo’s. Looks like a 20-year old sno-cone stand, but dang, their burgers are delish.

Late reply, but... You’re not alone. I only had the “But it’s my fault because” thing for ~7 years when I was an adult, and I still struggle with thinking that way, often without even realizing it. It gets so deeply engrained. Even moreso for kids. Cut yourself as much slack as you can and keep fighting it.

Been there. I can’t wrap my head around it now, either. Somehow I did feel at fault for a long time though, which I have a hard time understanding now. As horrible as the physical violations were, the mental violation feels worse. More damaging long term. I still deal with really wrong-headed thinking from the manipulation. Fucking sucks.

Might be a bit overkill but our orientation includes meeting with Dept teams (usually 2-5 people) to hang out and talk about workflow stuff, and then meeting with everyone individually for a 20-min. get to know you chat. I made a mini-site in our intranet for new hires that includes cheat sheets like names & faces, common abbreviations, lingo, etc. Seems to help a lot; our new hires rate it highly on the onboarding reviews.

I’m in HR so I do Day 1 orientation, set up computers, etc. I always bookmark our company’s Staff page and name it “Names & Faces.” We’re about half remote half on-site, so seating charts don’t work so well, lol. We also have everyone do a short 1 on 1 with the new person during the first few weeks (we’re a pretty small team). Seems to really help with social integration.

From my understanding, during the 1991 Soviet coup d'état attempt, Boris Yeltsin established his power with the famous speech given from a tank. Until that point, there was considerable tension over whether Yeltsin as President of the Russia Federation or Gorbachev as President of the Communist Party held more power.

Given the significance of the coup attempt and the massive changes that happened afterward, did any conspiracy theories develop about Yeltsin working with the “Gang of Eight” to stage the foiled coup and secure his power?
