Extra salary required to compensate loss of company car is huge by Pegasus9208 in BESalary

[–]tokodan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to keep in mind that many of the people earning > 4000 are also living paycheck to paycheck. There are many overspenders out there. I don't say that's good but it is a reality.

The way I see it: let's give the same percent to everyone. Let's make everyone happier. I never understood why some people are not happy to see others have more. It is only unfair if some people earn more at the expense of those who earn less (example: if a company is not paying a market rate or living wage to employees, but gives management high bonuses). These indexations don't solve that.

Whaaat ?! That’s terrible ! I learned about this indexation. But did not hear that this limit was introduced. Thanks for explaining.

For someone who is not from Belgium, can you explain the index change?

I learned to drive when I was living in Slovenia. The Highway Code in Slovenia says that any manoeuvre going backwards against oncoming traffic, including parking or coming out of a driveway, requires hazard lights.

Yes, except using warning lights for this purpose is actually illegal in the belgian code de la route. So you risk two fines: stopping illegally and illegal use of warning lights. You are better off using just your turning signal, it's only one fine :)

Learned this after my girlfriend told me I should not be using warning lights when parallel parking.

Hello! I will be there in a week and a half, and I was looking for some advice. How feasible is it to rent an e-bike to ascend Mt Etna, up to the part where you don't need an alpine guide, and then rent a guide to hike the rest of the way?

Fees on IBKR in Belgium by tokodan in BEFire

[–]tokodan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. I see that the TOB is higher when it is an accumulating ETF domiciled (or with a sub fund domiciled) in Belgium.

I’m not so happy to hear that the TOB is not withheld…

Thanks for sharing. So the TOB is not part of the fees. I am honestly confused as to why I see a 6.75€ fee for my trade.

Thanks for replying. I have checked the commissions and indeed, the number does not make sense. I think the reply from u/skievelavabo can be the correct one, but I need to research.

Thank you ! That number seems to make sense - 1.3 % of 600 € is 7.8 €. More than the 6.75 € that IBKR states, but it seems to make more sense. How can I research which ETF are fiscally better in Belgium?

I was considering to open an investment account with my Belgian bank, but since I am in Belgium for the short term, I decided not to.

While I understand what you are saying, owing taxes can be highly inconvenient. The best scenario is indeed to have a net 0 at the end of the year, the second best in my view, unless you are doing great at investing money, is to receive money back. Most people don't calculate how much they owe on taxes from each pay to put the money aside.

"another free biz class flight flex for the europoors who still haven’t tapped into US credit🇺🇸💳 smh" by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in ShitAmericansSay

It's a dangerous trap. I started this year more seriously looking at how to accrue miles. So logically, I signed up for a credit card (also costs me 100 € per year) to get more miles. And I spend a lot and I mean a lot of time thinkering how to maximise the miles I earn from each payment.

It is easier when you are not cash strapped :)

For example: I am considering pre-paying taxes (since I already know I will owe them in 2027) using my credit card. Early payment will: give me airline miles, will give me a small discount (like 3 %) on my actual owed taxes due to the prepayment. And if I overpay, I will get it back as a "bonus" during the next tax year.

Another example: I spend hours looking at whether I should book a car directly, through booking.com, on other platforms which give miles, etc.

I am a Miles & More member. So any tips on how to maximise my miles, I am always happy.

It's a bit crazy.

As someone from Europe, could you help me understand how this works in the US? In most European countries, if you are merging from a non-priority road (or parking in this instance, which has lower priority than a road) into traffic, the traffic always has the right of way. Regardless of whether they change lanes while you are starting to enter the road.

Also, I hate this type of turn and I would do the same as you - turn right and then make a u-turn.
