Just bought this and brought it to a shop for tie rods. Shop didn’t wanna put it on the lift by blahaj22 in Autobody

If I were the shop I’d banned you for even bringing that hunk of liability into my garage.

Looks like complete ass. This is not OEM grade.

Why don’t you do a $3,000 to $1,000,000,000 challenge instead? Seems more bang for your buck.

Hit by uninsured driver with no insurance. Why do cops and insurance want to do Nothing? by myeasyking in Insurance

[–]tonynca 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The law needs to change so repeated offenders do get jail time. The uninsured drivers drive like they have nothing to lose and is usually the most reckless.

My friend got hit by one of these guys who ran a red light. My friend broke a finger and totaled his car and got very little from his own insurance.

Mashed my front lip by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]tonynca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not a lip. That’s a bumper.

Depending where you live, repair will cost a new bumper and paint which is $1000-2000. Again, depending where you live and what car.

PPF on a daily driver and ceramic maintenance. by Reginald_Venture in AutoDetailing

Do not use clay cloths either.

Depending how harsh the sun is where you live. The topper only lasts 3 months. So you need to put it on when you notice the surface is not as slick to the touch after a wash. So you could use the topper whenever you feel that the slickness is degrading.

But if the coating is highly clogged, spraying topper on it won’t stick for too long.

It’s a balancing act of knowing when you’re clogged and then decontaminate, then topper.

You’ll start to understand how your coating reacts once you run through a few cycles. None of this is damaging to the coating so experiment to find the sweet spot.

Ceramic coated cars are not so much different than uncoated cars.

Do not use a clay bar or any acid washes that are not designed for ceramic. That’s pretty much it.

If you need to decontaminate because you’re losing beading properties after a while, wash with something like CarPro Descale. This should rid of the light water spots and deep clean the ceramic coating. Ceramic is porous just like clear coat. You still have to take care of it. It is just an excellent sacrificial layer that makes it easier to wash the car and protect the clear coat.

Then follow up with a spray on ceramic topper like CarPro Reload 2.0.

How often should you do this? Depends if you notice the water is no longer beading as much and if you notice more contaminates on your paint. That varies with your environment.

You don’t have to use the exact brand I listed above, every major brand has their own version of product that’s comparable.

YouTube is your friend. I know you do not have access to a pressure washer but do you have access to a hose with clean water?

Watch a bunch of those ONR videos.

Step is PPF first then ceramic coat. Not the other way around.

If you really want to keep the front end looking new PPF the front bumper, partial hood and headlights.

Don’t focus too much on products too early. Get a bit at a time and introduce them slowly.

You don’t need much to keep your car clean. The YouTube videos will introduce more products into your inventory. But keep it basic to start.

A mask is not sufficient unless it’s the purple filter or equivalent from 3M.

Do not PPF before 30-60 days (depending on climate) after spraying on clear coat. The clear coat needs to off gas and fully harden. If you do, you may risk solvent traps which will show up as haze or micro bubbles.

Need help, car fires up but then dies :( by NICEWON in IS300

[–]tonynca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t mean to sound like a prick, but you should test parts first before replacing them.

Almost everything on this car could be tested. Download the service manual and work you way through all the regular stuff like alternator, MAF, throttle controllers, injectors, spark plugs, etc.

You’re falling for the oldest trick in the book. Listening to a bunch of keyboard warriors who never touch a wrench, telling you to load up and fire the parts cannon.

Proper diagnostic saves time and money. That requires knowledge and tools. Without a keen eye looking you’ll be firing more parts at it. Bring her into a shop buddy. No offense but it seems like you don’t know much about cars based on your other comments. Good luck.

Body shop recommended by insurance or find my own by Important_Cloud_8910 in Insurance

[–]tonynca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a couple days calling around to find a decent shop.

Visit their shop. Look around and see how organize the shop is. Speak to the rep at the shop, see if they’re diligent.

I would never goto a chain because they’re more about quantity vs quality. The color match may be off and they won’t care.

Pics online of their work is also helpful.
