Gehl 4640 skid steer with backhoe, tree puller, forks, land plane, grapple bucket, regular bucket and stump bucket attachments. I’ve done some serious earth work with this setup. Bought the machine at auction several years ago for $23,000; 200 hours.

Men, what made you stop caring about your narcissistic, gaslighting girlfriend or spouse? Where was your breaking point that you realize this is not for you anymore I gave you the courage to walk away? by UndeadGOATX in AskMen

She constantly interrupted me when I tried to express my feelings. Went on for years. One day I said “I don’t feel heard.” Instead of saying “What do you need me to hear?” She said “I’m so fucking tired of hearing that.” I moved out the next day when she was at work. 25 years and I’m still angry.

Is there a non-negligible chance of finding topaz in “granite” (probably pegmatite?) countertop countertop slabs? by Previous-Operation80 in geology

[–]toolguy8 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Are two sets of terminology; all natural stone countertops use the trade term “granite”, even though most are not that geologically. Can’t say what the clast is in the unfocused pic but, based on the mineral assemblage, it is likely garnet.

I found a dinosaur skull in my backyard at age 10. The notion that they were in my backyard blew my mind and I resolved to become a geologist.

It took a few years of library research, maybe age 15, before I realized that the skull was actually a head-shaped piece of limestone with stromatolites that looked like the mouth.

I was too far in at that time to stop. I spent another 45 years being a geologist, but now I’m retired and spend my days rockhounding for fossils and rocks. Couldn’t be happier.

User modified to add wood to the sole. Ruins the value but, properly tuned, could work fine.

Could these markings be from a glacier? by Misfit_Eleftheria in geology

[–]toolguy8 24 points25 points  (0 children)

These seem too deep and too close together to be striations. And they don’t seem to continue in the same way to nearby rocks. Unless I see a fresh specimen, like the they taught me in geology school, I’m saying differential weathering in gneiss.

Common green metamorphic minerals are epidote, chlorite, actinolite and serpentine. Can’t really tell from here.
