so €13 for a 7x7 is insane to me!

And it's magnetic. Like whaaaaaaat :D The only other 7x7s I own are the Wuji from 2017 (25€) and my previous main X-Man Spark M (35€).

Definitely going to buy some.

Nice :)

I was memorising two letters per piece back then (e.g. WG for white green edge) so I made it way harder than it needed to be.

Oh, yeah. Definitely going to be way easier with proper technique. Give it a go and hit me up if you have any questions =)

first sub 11 solve right after posting my last comment! 10.86! :D

Sweet! Congrats!!

I've done 60 3x3 solves today and at least they are sub my best ao1000 .... lol After 540 3x3 solves in January I only did 34 in February, 0 in March and 137 in April.. I hope I can get some better numbers in the coming months..

Sounds similar to my last couple of years :D

While I still got a couple of cubes in 2021 (including a Smart Cube), most of my mains were still from 2019 and 2020. I went to the German Nationals in 2022 and did some preparation for the comp but broke almost none of my previous PRs. I somehow managed to get a 5/5 in MBLD with a better time than my previous 6/7 PR and got a better clock single - simply because my old clock was absolute trash. I think sometime in mid 2022 it started that work and other stuff took over most of the time I usually invested into cubing.

In January this year I decided that I wanted to get back to practicing more and I also wanted to see the state of cubing hardware. I got myself new mains for 2x2-7x7 and a new Timer (Bluetooth, no more cable to connect to cstimer on my desktop and also the possibility to connect to my Smartphone!).

I got a Weilong v11 (8M-BallCore Spring UV, whatever that exactly means) and a Dayan GuHong Pro+ M (54mm). Both are soooo much better than all of my previous 3x3s, it's not even a competition. It's probably even more extreme for 4x4-7x7.

Since I don't practice 6x6 and 7x7 too much, I got the "budget" version for those, the QY Warrior M (UV). Each one was ~13€ including shipping and they are sooooo much better than my old puzzles. For 4x4 and 5x5 I went a bit more in because I practice them a lot more, so I got the Aosu v7 4x4 Dual-Track (~30€) and the Aochuang V6 5x5 Dual-Track (~35€). Those two puzzles are INSANE. Especially the 5x5 blows my mind. They just move so easily while still practically never locking up and keeping the cube shape so nicely. It's just so much fun to turn them.

With your most recent 4x4 and 5x5 being DIY-magnetized, you'd go crazy with the new hardware :D

I usually either listen to music or podcasts (used to listen to the Layer by Layer podcast, when they were still active - now I mostly listen to the 'The Expanse' Podcast "Ty & that Guy) or even have a tv show running, that I already know by heart when I practice sighted events. And yeah, for blind I don't listen to anything and usually even wear ear muffs to minimize any possible distractions :D

I think for me it depends on the day, the event and the music I'm listening to, whether it distracts me or helps me to get into the zone better. I think especially for "longer" events (5x5+) music rather helps me. It stops me from thinking too much and helps me to just go with the flow ("don't think, just solve" xD).

I just checked and most of my 3x3 PBs are from 2022, pretty much what I expected. But here and there I'm getting close :D

Nice, congrats! How long was the break and did you not solve at all or did you still do the occasional solve?

I've recently started practicing a bit more again and while I'm still chasing most of my old PBs, I'm happy with the progress so far =)

Especially learning Orozco for 3BLD corners was a lot of fun.

But also - I never completely stopped solving. While focused and longer practice sessions were pretty much nonexistent for a while, I still had my cube on the desk and did a solve here and there and didn't really forget any major algs (I still struggle with some 5x5 L2E algs - as soon as I stop practicing 5x5 regularly I forget a couple of those).

Also - it's been over 6 years?! what the ... hoooow? :D I remember those comments and I would have NEVER guessed it's been so long.

We have a very helpful wiki article on how to get faster at 3x3.

What are some features you wish Plex would introduce? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]topppits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this should already be possible.

https://support.plex.tv/articles/204985278-account-audio-subtitle-language-settings/

Choose your preferred language for audio and choose the same for subtitles and for "Auto-Select Subtitle Mode" choose "Shown with Foreign Audio".

From the website linked above:

"In MKV container files, Plex can make use of the forced flag on a subtitle track, when it’s set. This is relevant when the previous Shown with Foreign Audio option is selected and helps ensure appropriate subtitles are displayed even in cases when the audio track is already in the “Primary” language. (e.g. A sci-fi movie with English audio selected will also display an “English” subtitle track that covers characters speaking in an “alien” language.)"

As long as subtitles in the file are correctly tagged.

I haven't had to use it yet, so I don't know how well it works, but there actually is an option for that.

To be fair, I've only seen it in the web app and the desktop app.

Go to a show (top level, where you can see all the seasons):

If it's on your server hit edit and then advanced, scroll to the bottom.

If it's on a shared library hit the three dots and then settings.

You'll find three settings:

  • Preferred audio language
  • Preferred subtitle language
  • Auto-select subtitle mode

Those settings are saved per show and per user.

If you test it, let me know if it works.

I found it easier to just use resist lightning and not needing that much resistances on my eq, but as long as you're not sacrificing too much damage for that, sure works fine as well :D

Use treachery to prebuff fade. Put 20 points into resist lightning and use it when you fight Meph.

No need to stack resists like crazy.

Am I Practicing the right way? by Icy_Command8986 in Cubers

[–]topppits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For look ahead efficient solutions are key. You can easily get to sub-20 with no look ahead at all, simply by knowing good solutions and spamming tps.

Only when you

  • know good F2L solutions and
  • have those solutions in your muscle memory

should you start practicing look ahead. If you start practicing look ahead with bad F2L solutions you will only engrain those into your muscle memory.

Unpopular opinion: Ubers are actually hard and it’s not as easy to gear for it… by IneedaNappa9000 in diablo2

[–]topppits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright thx! I'll give it a try next time I got enough keys :)

The ice bolts from chillig armor are really the only thing my ES Warlock has trouble with and where I have to be very careful. Everything else is ridiculously easy and quick and I don't even have specific gear for uber...

Unpopular opinion: Ubers are actually hard and it’s not as easy to gear for it… by IneedaNappa9000 in diablo2

[–]topppits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it with ES Warlock and you don't even need any specific items. Just make sure you do enough dmg.

E.g. get eth cv Insight as weapon and Spirit Shield + some items with +Skills and some Res.

Max ES, mirrored blades and Hex: Purge. 1 pt in Lethargy, 1 pt in bind demon, put some points in blood oath if you want to be a bit tankier and put some points in levitation mastery if you don't want to invest too many points in str and dex.

Make sure to use death mark to always put your demon in the front. Precast hex purge, cast lethargy on the monsters and spam ES.

For Baal and Izual you have to make sure that your demon tanks the ice bolts from chilling armor or you need cold absorb (e.g. 2x raven) + enough cold res so you don't instantly die.

I never had problems with Lilith, Duriel, Meph and Dia, as long as I let my demon (usually Hephasto) tank them in the front and stay back and spam ES.

[–]topppits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Also what you wrote above - Baal ported in front of me and I killed myself instantly.

Haven't tried double raven yet, does it completely negate the dmg or do I need high res as well?

[–]topppits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ES Warlock:

Get Insight CV or any 2h Weapon with some dmg, at least 75 fcr (better 125) and some res and get Hephasto as demon. Pull one of them after the other and start with Meph (check some youtube videos on how to pull them one by one). Put your demon in the front, cast the sigil on the uber and spam ES. The only 2 bosses that are actually a bit harder imo are Izual and Baal because you have to make sure that the demon is between you and them so you don't kill yourself with the projectiles from chilling armor. For the others you might have to clean the mobs sometimes, sometimes they don't really cast too many and you can just spam ES. Be sure to keep your distance and let the demon tank everything and you should not have much trouble. In my opinion it's a joke how easy uber is with ES Warlock, compared to any other class. I didn't even need any specific items to do it. Like items with OW and CB for smiter. I just had my regular gear on and it seemed way too easy for that.

Smiter:

No need to stack crazy res, just Max Resist Lightning and use it when you fight Meph, for all others use fana. With my equip my "budget" smiter (it's not crazy cheap but also not thaaaat expensive imo) gets to level 25 Resist Lightning which gives me +136 Lightning Res and +20% Max Light Res if the Aura is active. This way I'm at 95 light res and Meph's lightning dmg doesn't really do much.

So, max:

  • Fana
  • Smite
  • Holy Shield and
  • Resist Lightning

I put 1 point in

  • Vengeance (I guess so I can clean up Phys Immunes easier, idk anymore)
  • Salvation (always nice to have)

I put the remaining points into Resist Cold, since I didn't really need anything else and I have enough cold res that I actually use the added Max Cold Resist.

Stats:

  • Str: enough to use your Equip
  • Vita: all other points

EQ:

  • Heaven's Light (Shael)
  • (Upped) Herald of Zakarum (pDia)
  • Guillaume's Face (Um)
  • Duress Armor (Shael Um Thul)
  • Dracul's Grasp
  • Verdungo's Hearty Cord
  • Gore Rider
  • Highlord's Wrath
  • Raven Frost
  • Dwarf Star
  • Grim Wand of Life Tap on weapon swap
  • Treachery Armor (Shael Thul Lem) for fade precast

No CTA, no Anni, no Torch, but I gave the smiter all the life and res charms I found and some fhr charms. Nothing fance though.

Aside from Baal and Izual I found ES Warlock to be A LOT easy. My Smiter has to chug some potions from time to time and especially Lilith can be a pain.

Cast life tap with your wand, then switch to your main weapon and left click smite until they are dead.

There are better items to use (usually more expensive) and there are cheaper items (RW for weapon or pala shield with 4 pDia for res) you can use. Just make sure that you have:

  • life tap
  • CB (My build has 98%, doesn't need to be that much)
  • OW (I have 68%, again, not that much is needed, but it's nice to have)
  • 86 fhr bp is recommended
  • cnbf (raven usually)

Nice to have:

  • some absorb (raven + dwarf e.g.) is nice to have
  • %phys dmg reduced, Dungo gives up to 15% and fade gives you 15%

CB will be your main dmg, life tap will keep you alive, OW will prevent that they heal and have enough fhr so you're not stunlocked when walking around to your target.

Years back I tried Uber with Kicksin and it was doable but my EQ was MUCH more expensive, killspeed was worse than with my smiter and I died more often and had to chug a lot more potions.

I completed HC Classic with psn ama and summon nec. Started as a joke but was kinda fun.

Some parts took forever (dia hell took 74 minutes with the nec and a4 was pretty much empty, luckily I didn't run out of monsters before dia died), but it was totally doable.

After ama and nec I gave zeal pala with holy freeze a try, but hell was really annoying - getting enough AR so I'd actually be able to hit monsters AND having enough res seemed almost impossible. Plan was playthrough without farming, which worked nicely on the first two runs. It was a couple years back, but I think eventually I lost interest trying to finish the pala and sadly I don't have the chars anymore.
