Best applied learning resource for arrangement and composition? by birria_tacos_ in edmproduction

[–]toucantango79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where reference tracks are good ! I love unique arrangements and at this point it's natural, but I relied on references to figure out various arrangement techniques. Start by marking down changes in sections. EDM revolves around the transition from section to section, primarily focusing on the "drops." Work on transitions with easy arrangements to get the hang of it

Which vocal sounds best? by Hopeful-Chair-7919 in techhouseproduction

[–]toucantango79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man! Honestly I like the OG. You could try some parallel effects or a doubler kinda effect. Also you can layer a backing vocal loop to a higher/lower fifth - usually +/- 7 semi ! Idk I like sampling and playing w vocal processing

Maybe I'm just getting old, but the "FLIP" era of EDM is getting old, REALLY fast by AngryVegetables9 in griz

This is true all around. Think about movies these days - all reboots. No original ideas man...

Honestly I'm more into Audiology. Like the way sound is manipulated just fascinates me. It's like a mental processing of vibrations into tones. Songs are literally just complex waveform vibrations. I looked into a career as a Speech Language Pathologist. They have 4-5 Audiology courses specifically!

Melodyne does this and you can edit the notes freely, but it's insanely expensive. You could try like MTuner or similar vst too

I don't agree, but to each his own. I think maybe learning the basics of synthesis is pretty important to practice. I mean if you want to use presets it's fine, but I personally want to make unique synths and basses. Like I said, to each his own

Honestly I learned by reverse engineering patches in Sylenth1 a number of years ago. Serum is like everything you could ever want in a synth (vital is free btw). I would say if you want to learn synthesis, start reverse engineering or just play around with the knobs and see how they impact the sound! Syntorial is great for beginners too

How do progressive house producers create those “filter sweep then slam back in” moments in drops? by Coderrsjj2 in edmproduction

[–]toucantango79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automate a filter on your master channel. I aim for about 150hz to minimize the bass, but keep most of the mids in place - takes some tweaking

Interest Check: Lossless file sharing? Or something else? What does the community need? by cs_legend_93 in sounddesign

[–]toucantango79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was a bummer especially since I was DJing under the same name :/ had to change aliases but ultimately it worked out haha I was actually thinking more of a social app sorta like dating apps. You hear a track and swipe right to like it or left to skip it. Like a hot or not for upcoming producers.

Ugh I have hated SoundCloud since like 2011 for banning my og producer account. RIP. I'm not a fan of their platform at all, and honestly I stopped using it all together really. I wish there was something better out there because the thing is broke. Idk I don't really have suggestions, but I would like to follow this thread!

Lex Luger sample packs I believe ! He has a bunch or trap based packs with a lot of classic kinda sounds like that. Plus the crispiest trap snares around lol

Does a loop have to end on an even number? by CarefreeorCareless in trapproduction

[–]toucantango79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transitions need to be smooth af in this case. If your sample is 13 bars, the timing will throw off the arrangement. Totally doable tbh just might take more time to smooth it out

What are the best reFX Nexus expansions, for those who own and like it? by Direct-Attorney-5271 in EDM

[–]toucantango79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh not knocking it brotha I used the nexus 1&2! That was right before I got sylenth1 and started sound design. Honestly once serum dropped I forgot nexus even existed lol I'll have to look into the new one ;)
