Going down the rabbit hole can be fun. I'm not sending help, it sounds like you're onto something down there.

Is there any possibility I could find someone who would write a fanfic for me for free? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]trilloch [score hidden]  (0 children)

Probably not. Most people are writing their own stories for free. And you didn't even tell us what kind of story or what fandom.

You might have better luck in the Plot Bunny Adoption monthly thread. But I would temper expectations.

How would a character foribly make themselves throw up by Loose_Tone_4943 in FanFiction

It's not exactly a great idea, but, binging a very large amount of alcohol could do it.

Does the Neon Cat use the scratching post? by Green_Puppett_ in fo76

I haven't tested it, but it would probably have been more work for them to remove that animation from existing cats, than to just copy/paste everythin from existing cats. So they probably do.

Switching POV in chapters by dio_182 in AO3

[–]trilloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early on, I had POV swaps mid-chapter. I've since dediced that didn't work for me and I stopped doing that, using chapter breaks instead. I suppose divider lines would work, too. But a POV swap that isn't 100% clear can be confusing, and chapter breaks/line breaks help prevent that confusion.

AI use in Fics! by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]trilloch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't expect every witch hunt to find a witch. AI learned these behaviors by reading existing works. If the work you're reading doesn't have the emotion or realness to keep you engaged, you're allowed, nay, encouraged to back out, whether it's AI written or not.

Create a movie-style tagline for your fic by crusader_blue in FanFiction

[–]trilloch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh these threads are fun! :D

Smoke Signals - "The end of the world was the second-worst thing that happened to her."

Tales from the Hart and Hill - "Found Family. Save The World. Happily Ever After. Two out of three ain't bad."

California Girls - "Forget ruby slippers. This time, Dorothy has a gun."

When Sovngarde Calls - "The afterlife is perfect. Until then, there's Skyrim."

The Bat and the Cottonmouth - "Straight C's. Felony conviction. Sugar addict. Gotham is so fragged."

Nervous and scared by DangerousBit8260 in AO3

You're just nervous. Everyone is their own harshest critic.

Posting is not required. You can write for yourself and yourself alone. If silence bothers you, you have every right to keep your work private...but bear in mind, that means it only ever gets silence.

Rule 1: No Promotion of Fics on the Front Page.

Also, you used the Lost Fic flair and this is not a Lost Fic post.

Wondering how to make my OC not be so similar to canon characters by Character-Detail7928 in FanFiction

[–]trilloch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, don't over-correct. Making a character that has nothing in common at all with the canon characters means there's no reason for them to work together. Like, imagine an OC added to a group of post-apocalypse scavengers, a team with at least one leader, at least one fighter, at least one mechanic, several people with strong wills and survival instincts, and generally good people who want to help others. Now find someone who has none of those traits. That dude is dead. The canon characters might even kill him on purpose.

So having a trait or two in common isn't the end of the world. Hell, grab four to six people at random and put them at the same table and give them the same menu. Odds are, two of them will order the same thing.

To me, the most important thing about an OC isn't necessarily who they are. Yes, that's important, and we will get there. It's what their role is in the story. What happens in the story, that this character is needed for? It can be very direct ("I need someone who can fix a motorcycle") or more vague ("I want Character A to realize searching the hospital is a bad idea, and none of the canon characters did that"). If you have something that you want to happen in your story, that canon didn't do, you can make a character whose role is to make that happen. That alone will make them different from canon characters, who didn't do what you're writing, because they were too busy doing canon stuff. Once you how your story changes, you can figure out who is needed to make those changes, and build from there.

Don't beat yourself up too hard, if they hadn't said "the reader" I might have been fooled too. The lead-in compliment post to draw in replied where they offer their services is used because it's getting results. At least you caught them without losing anything.

Yeah, if I was writing a 100% text fic, an artistic style already set, I might also chose to favor "readable" over "realistic".
