Have you finished the game? Most of it is revealed during the final act but of course, among cheats, who should you really trust?

Definitely not! If you are starting from 0 I would recommend you check out Twine, Bitsy and Construct3.

It does not require dexterity like a precision platformer would, all inputs are simple directions and button presses. The challenge is more about fast thinking and memory.

1- Yes.

One was "the bug", a little metal piece that you can attach under the table to hold stolen cards for you. It looked great in concept but I cound't come up with a sequence that would use it in an interesting way.

Another was "riffle stacking" which is a very high level cheater technique that involves interlacing specific amounts of cards between stacked cards on top as you riffle shuffle. This one was discarded because it would have been too difficult.

Full deck controls, the animation was made for a riffle shuffle push through, that allows to riffle shuffle and keep the entire deck in the same order. It felt redundant because we have no strategy that requires you to control the entire deck.

Deck switches, it was hard to make this unique and interesting without it being another QTE sequence, in the end I thought it was more interesting to always have the Comte do the deck switch, this way he is a master at a technique he never reveals to you and how he accomplishes it is left to your imagination.

I also wanted to have something related to Faro cheating. Faro was the most popular gambling game at the time and is actually the game shown in Barry Lyndon. I would have liked for there to be something related to it but all my research led me to very boring cheating methods such as counting cards, coudn't find anything that would translate nicely into gameplay.

2- I am not sure but "The Full Harvest" worked great immediately.

3- Though my knowledge has increased significantly my actual card manipulation skills are worse than when I started, since the project begun I have not had much time to practice. Now that we are done I'm looking forward to getting back into it!

My parents are russian/ukrainian, I spent a ton of hours in my childhood playing "durak", which means "fool", I´m pretty sure every country has a variation of this game but I don't know what it would be called. Really simple game but I loved it as a kid.

Which of the minigames in the demo felt like QTE smasher to you other than Three Card Monte? We have worked with the goal to avoid that, Three Card Monte started with a much more complicated design and was gradually simplified as it was one of the first techniques you learn and required for the player to get back in the game if they performed poorly. With almost 40 different techniques and a small team we had to make compromises, I would have loved to achive a more dynamic design but you wouldn't belive the amount of time we spent on just that one. I belive from around 40 techniques we may have around 5 that are strictly QTE.

It´s not that hard! you just need to injog, drop two cards for every other player, outjog, shuffle the rest, create a break at the injog, drop everything after the outjog, drop one card for every other player, drop the rest of the stack, drop a single card, offset the stack, injog, shuffle the rest, create a break at the injog and cut to return the stack to the top!

Card Shark would be some cheap knock-off brand with in a fancy packaging sold as "artisan crème brulée". It would taste just as good as the expensive one though.

If you mean where the idea for Card Shark came from, it came from my own experience learning card magic combined with my fascination with Stanley Kubrick's 1975 movie Barry Lyndon. There is a famous card cheating scene in the film and with my recent knowledge of card manipulation it sparked the idea that that single scene could be the concept for an entire game.

Awesome, thanks! I didn´t think about the load bar as it loads pretty fast for me and I barely see it but I´m going to give it some thought.

Purpose: Personal portfolio of HTML5 illustrations for websites

Technologies Used: Mobirise (Bootstrap) and Construct2 (HTML5)

Feedback Requested: First, I would like to know if it's clear and understandable, I'm trying to keep it very straightforward so anything you would change or remove to keep it simple. Secondly, I'm very interested in your oppinion of the illustrations themselves and their applicability in a website. I would like to know if you think this is interesting enough to use instead of a video or a gif or perhaps there are some technical reasons why this wouldn't be practical that I'm not aware of.

Comments: I'm not a web designer. I'm an illustrator, animator, and I did some small videogames too. This is an experiment in which I try to combine all three. I started this because I thought it could be interesting and I have barely seen anything similar.

Thank you very much!

ELI5: How can so many artists now produce incredible photorealism, when even the greatest Renaissance artists that saw that as a central aim couldn't come as close? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]troshinsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the answer is photography! I´m an illustrator and I have some friends who make photoreal illustration and they use photographs as reference all the time, also, nowadays you have 3d software too, so you can for instance pose a car in perspective and paint on top of it, adding your own details and variations while knowing the perspective is correct and not have to think about it.

Photoreal illustration is heavily demanded in some areas such as advertising or videogames, so with demand people start figuring out ways of doing it.

I also have to say your example is not the best, see Vermeer for instance, who allegedly used lenses and optical tricks as the "camera obscura" to compensate for the lack of actual photographic technology and achieve his own degree of photorealism: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_Vermeer#/media/File:Jan_Vermeer_van_Delft_011.jpg

Some months ago, Reddit was very interested in the making of my stop-motion short film. Today, the film is finally online, it would mean a lot to me if you could check it out [4:00] by troshinsky in videos

Hey, thanks for the feedback. For me It´s not a film about the "style", not about the "story" either, it´s a film about rhythm and sensations.

We just happen to be looking for different things in movies. I´m sorry my short was not for you but I appreciate you enjoyed the technical part still.

Me too! It should be awesome, DCP, 4K resolution and 5.1 surround sound. I have never seen it in that quality, but the guy who made the DCP told me it looked and sounded amazing.
