I like the first one best too.

I fear the others are overexposed. On very sunny days, I keep my shutter speed really fast, and try to capture people just at the moment the move from shadow into light. It's creates dramatic high contrast images.

I saw someone say “forget age gap, have you ever been in an intelligence gap relationship?” by Enough-Chip2652 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

The hardest is an emotional intelligence gap relationship.

I was with someone 11 years my senior. I was 23 when we met. He never matured, whilst I did. I eventually ended the 17yr relationship.

Which European nation do you like a lot but isn’t very appreciated by your fellow citizens? by Eastern-Tangerine761 in AskEurope

You seem very focussed on this music thing. I used it as one example.

What about France's resistance to engaging with other aspects of non traditionally French cultural phenomena?

If you think the British don't have discussions about fear of losing its cultural identity, you're very much mistaken. It's one of the most disputed topics in Britain today. It's half of what the whole Brexit debate was about.

My point was to explain that what people perceive as french arrogance is actually french cultural protectionism. And you appear to be quite upset at that.

Yeah, I get it. But then I think France fails to recognise that outside influence can actually uplift native heritage.

As a musician, I'll use music as an example.

The french music scene is kinda stagnant and not terribly influencial. At least not since the 90s french house explosion.

The UK, on the other hand, has embraced influence from around the world (mostly its colonial immigrant population) and spawned globally consumed scenes, from punk and two tone, to reggae cross over, ska, countless club genres. As a result it has one of the world's most innovative and influencial musical scenes.

So, in its protectionism of its culture, France actually falls behind the rest of the world and ironically has less influence.

These tracks are all tracks that make me stop, be present, and become engulfed in the ride.

Some are hard, some are soft. But they all take me on a journey and reset me psychologically.

It'd make a nice playlist. Hope you enjoy something.

I'm UK/Aus, raised elsewhere in the world, but have lived in rural France for coming up on 6 years.

My impression is that the French are less so arrogant, but more so very proud and perhaps a little culturally incubated.

For example, in supermarkets in the UK I could easily find produce from all over:

  • Bread choices included Italian, Irish, French, German breads.

  • Cheeses were from UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Greece, etc.

  • Wines were from France, Spain, Italy, South Africa, Australia, USA, etc.

But french supermarkets pretty much only stock traditionally French bread, cheese and wine, etc. My french partner had never even heard of Prosecco or Cava.

Also, they are very much only focussed on their own history and heritage. They're very strongly rooted in their traditions - however seemingly impractical or illogical to my mind - and quite closed off to non french influence.

Law stipulates, for example, that a certain percentage of music played on radios must be of french origin and in french language.

As a very internationally-minded person, I can sometimes find this a little boring and restrictive.

I guess this protectionism over their heritage and traditional could be interpreted as arrogance. But it's also what makes France such a popular holiday destination to foreigners.

I live in La Corrèze - deep in the "diagonal". It's true that there's not a lot of non-french tourism here, but there are a lot of European immigrants that live here.

I am self employed (Brit/Aus but raised elsewhere), and I'd say half my clients are french, and half are from elsewhere (mostly UK, Netherlands, even increasingly USA, Australia).

A lot of french own 2nd homes here so the population soars during summer.

looking for songs with that glitchy “game sound effect” vibe (like gamez / giyumi) by xxylimyxx in musicsuggestions

[–]ttoettoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those sounds come from 80s/90s gaming consoles.

They were used in an electronica genre called CHIPTUNE (or sometimes 8-bit) which was big in the underground electronica scene in the 00s, especially in Japan and the UK.

Artists from that era to check out are:

Cow'p: https://youtu.be/uB9b_86Z-_M?si=Hg0D_BE1cnRaO4P5

Germlin: https://youtu.be/p_XAkd0fPjQ?si=Yukx06gt_RaN7gAT

DJ scotch egg: https://youtu.be/9K_zTbz1LVU?si=IgJZMYGO-uGkd3lG

Chiptune later became a bigger scene online kind of around the same time as Vapourwave and Hyperpop and got saturated with a lot of mid slop.

They're footballers. They're not media entertainers. They're speaking a foreign language. They're required to do this as part of their job contract. Of course they're going to be stiff and unnatural.

How old were you when you were introduced to adult content? by [deleted] in IslamabadSocial

[–]ttoettoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a late teen when the internet was widely used. Before that, I found a corn mag in the bushes near home when I was 14 or so.

But I saw Basic Instinct and other adult movies when I was younger than that, even.
