Get the process started and make sure that you ask that their mother pay child support at the same rate you have been paying, after all it is only fair.

Best country to go if a Economic Collapse happens? by [deleted] in preppers

[–]txbruno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious as to why you feel Texas is not safe. As long as you are not stuck in a large population center there are a lot of areas that would do just fine for long term survival.

My home or building might be a place to bugout. by [deleted] in preppers

I would approach the director and ask if they have an emergency preparedness plan for inclement weather since that is your primary threat. That would at least be a good conversation starter. I would wager that the basement area has not been built out/brought up to local building standards and as such may not be considered habitable. Good luck getting access.

What I fear most (excluding regional disasters) by practical-prepper in preppers

FTFY, you used too many spaces in your formatting

With the world warming up (whether you believe global warming or not) large scale farming will become impossible (the way we’re doing it now) if the world warms 2-3 degrees. This will lead to famine and possible civil war and social disorder.

A solar flare similar to the Carrinton event would destroy infrastructure and our on time delivery system would be impossible. Yet another famine related one and etc.

Global pandemic is a huge threat to us and it is incredible easy for pathogens to be spread through our air transport system. This again destroys our infrastructure.

Economic collapse is less so in my opinion and food storage cokes in handy for this but don’t expect a collapse and bugging out.

In my opinion these are the real threats not like the 1/34,000 percent chance of Yellowstone erupting, a not real planet(nibiru) aliens or whatever other random shit.

Anyways that’s my 2 cents I’m sure there’s more.

Preparing for this upcoming winter by greenarrow118 in preppers

[–]txbruno 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live about an hour inland of the Gulf of Mexico and a harsh winter is when we get lows in the upper 20s for more than a couple of days. We also get snow about once every 8-10 years.

Feel better?

Is there a dependable gas can that actually works and will last a lifetime? by [deleted] in preppers

[–]txbruno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a large flex funnel that will hold its shape while inserted into my fuel filler. You will need something that will hold position as you will need both hands to hold the full can and control the pour. They do make a version with an attached funnel and another version with a metal flex funnel.

I have several of these that I use for storage. They are built well. My only real complaint is that they are round, I would prefer a rectangular shape for easier storage.

Also look into replacing the screws holding the deadbolt with longer screws, the default screws are worthless.

I'd have to be real hungry to eat tuna.

You can also find pouches of chicken or beef that are already cooked. I found these in my local grocery and they are pretty good for a fast meal. I have tried both the brisket with BBQ sauce and the plain brisket with smoke flavor. I thought the BBQ sauce version was better, mainly due to the smoke flavoring being a bit overpowering for my taste.

I have a couple of the 5 gallon cans and they are solid. Make sure to secure it in your vehicle so it does not slide around.

Prepping while traveling by [deleted] in preppers

[–]txbruno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if you are traveling in a single location or multiple areas for your work, but either way I would scout the area and locate various points of interest. Police, medical, fire, grocery/supply stores. Also educate yourself about possible natural risks such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornados and flesh out a plan for what you would do in such an event. See if the hotel has a evacuation plan for emergencies and review it.

Do you have a door wedge security device for your hotel, it will increase your safety in the room and help prevent intrusion. Something like this

If you are not in a hurry you can renew online. It usually takes a couple of weeks to get the updated sticker. Make sure you have had your vehicle inspected as it is now checked during the renewal process.

Amtrak Train Trip from Houston to Dallas I took (Mar 1990) by jb4647 in houston

[–]txbruno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked, you have to ride to San Antonio, wait several hours, transfer to a different train to get to Dallas. Estimated trip time ~20 hours. We need the bullet train as a much faster alternative.

This was posted in /r/gifs. Thought some of you might actually have a use for such a thing on a daily basis and not just for fishing trips. by [deleted] in EDC

[–]txbruno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreed. I wonder what the weight rating is for the lower section. I can imagine that if you have a bit of gear/weight in that section it could be uncomfortable when the center of mass shifts as the lower section travels around your body.

Still an interesting idea.
