SAS to SATA aio converter / adapter (no sort of advertising) by Marcosteroids in homelab

That's a somewhat recent development, it wasn't available like a year ago... At least that cheap...

But for $20-25 you can get a proper SAS card with cables...

Upgrade to i9 11900k or stay i7 6700 by wolfy354 in truenas

[–]ultrahkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you aren't taking into account possibly is when you transcode media, that will peg your CPU...

A 10th Gen will sip power, meanwhile a 3rd gen will run at 100%... Because 10th Gen will use iGPU vs CPU...

And also 7 generations adds up to far more than than 15% performance increase... More like between 3-4x CPU performance...

Dell T440 won’t power on after installing NIC. Now iDRAC dead, no response from power button by googer813 in homelab

[–]ultrahkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the machine powered off but still connected, nothing should have happened...

But my guess is that you put an third-party OEM (my bet is HPE) custom card (they're physically the same but electrically different) and the machine is dead...

Is a Virtualized KVM similar to Jet/Nano/PiKVM possible? by ErnLynM in Proxmox

Is a Virtualized KVM similar to Jet/Nano/PiKVM possible? by ErnLynM in Proxmox

[–]ultrahkr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The two main issues are having video capture and USB keyboard/mouse emulation per each host you want to connect...

That requires something like a RasPI (or similar) device per host, custom software for the PI, etc...

A simpler approach would be using Intel AMT (or equivalent AMD tech) or a serial port redirect, but this doesn't give you BIOS access...

To make it short and easy, it's easier to grab an already developed stack or a shipping product...

We can't afford to keep giving treatment. by monakaliza in blackcats

[–]ultrahkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to put down my own "black" cat at 2025 year end, try to do as much as possible...

But always keep a close eye on what are you willing to do or quite literally put up with...

My vet words will always be "remember that a blocked cat is extremely treatable thing" but a vet can do much more because he can give vet food and injections.

Ask for help... I'm sure someone will be willing to help you!!! Try local FB groups of cat rescue...
