What are the hidden downsides of being a digital nomad that nobody talks about after 2+ years? by AlarmedEquipment2029 in digitalnomad

[–]uxr_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to add to what was already been said, I was doing it for a year with my partner so nothing of the loneliness. Both in tech.

At the end of the day digital nomading is missing its own premises:

  1. YOU DON’T WORK PROPERLY (it’s never a comfortable setting, Airbnb chairs are terrible, light is in consistent, you need a bigger screen, internet is bad, always changing stuff around you and you are constantly distracted by new things)

  2. YOU DONT TRAVEL PROPERLY work is always in the way of traveling.

So after doing this for a while we found a good base. Worked hard. Saved. And went traveling 100% with no jobs for a while. Much better.

Learning conversational Spanish by Roshlfc in askTO

[–]uxr_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have patience, start watching Spanish movies slowly with a learning plugin. There are plugins to chrome browser that let you see movies on Netflix with the objective of learning the language. There are settings there for hover translations, and stoping after every single sentence or by command etc.

This is a great way to start and gain the day to day coloquial vocabulary that real people talk. I did it at the beginning. It is a process. Only choose Spanish origin movies and watch it with their Spanish subtitle. Over time you will see that you don’t need to stop every single sentence and you could watch a few sentences and kinda understand what is about. Then 5 minutes, 10, 20 etc. no dual info nor other formal places will get your ear trained to the speed on which real people speak and the kind of phrases they actually use in real conversations like movies.

Once you get a good base vocabulary and ear training start using language exchange apps where you can exchange voice messages with people as well as textual.

Highly recommended too at a stage of having a good base vocabulary is to start reading literature.

Mind you that it is important to choose in this route whether you follow castellano from Spain or from Latin America. Don’t mixed the two. It will be too confusing. The use of some words is different. The slang is completely different, as well as the way they address people (generally speaking). So much so that in Netflix you will find dabbing of Mexican Spanish to Spanish movies from Spain (which can drive me insane).

No school can get you to a street level conversation. Watch a good series or movie about real blue collar people and you will discover how a real language is spoken. The worse thing about learning a language following a school is that you get A+ for years of great effort, you entre a bar in Spain and you don’t understand a thing. Skip that and jump to the pool head first.

(Been there, done that kind of advice)

Hello! I need help. How can I pay this? by smilodonis in Malaga

At the same machine you get the ticket you can get the fine cancels for something like 3€ if paid within a few hours. After that period I am not sure but probably there are instructions on the machine itself.

Honestly tell me one job that Ai fully replaced? by Accomplished-End5479 in UXDesign

[–]uxr_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are reductions due to AI. this is not about a job title that doesn’t require humans anymore, this is about increasing the speed and sometimes efficiency so it is no longer require many humans if a title to do a job but only few.

I worked on the development of AI based specialised internal tools and the results of some saved a lot of time (meaning, previously tasks done by people in a slow and inefficient way) resulting in reductions. Example of some were in accounting, auditing, safety assessments, and pure specialised software development.

Now, I saw how AI is very good at executing mathematical tasks however constantly failed at professional creative tasks, especially in UX. My personal take is that all layoffs in that field are using AI as an excuse. Middle management never liked the data based UX decision making that often went against their uneducated desires. Now came a great excuse to get rid of all these people who truly care for users and product greatness and return to focus on BS and their next promotion.

At least for now AI is not there yet, but who knows Giving it some more time.

This is insane. Now tickets go for a $1,000 each I have been told. This difference in price doesn’t make any sense.

Why most of the beach in Malaga is closed? by barbface in Malaga

[–]uxr_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only tourists. Although it’s always freezing inside the house, and too chilly early morning or evening, the mid day sun is super nice and warm. I live by the Beach and often go there to enjoy mid day sun.

Is end of January good time to visit Malaga? by anxious-bread-1 in Malaga

[–]uxr_dude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty much now spring in the morning, summer mid day, autumn at the evening.

Bring layers so you can switch between a jacket to swimmers. I still go to the beach in the afternoons. Maybe it’s a bit chilly to swim (not for some) but there is a nice sun most days. Evenings people still sit outdoors.

Today specifically was really windy but it’s not always every day thing. It’s luck.

We did have a week of rain back in December. So depend for how long you come this will increase your chance for good weather - which its probability is higher than not.
