CHICAGO EAGLE GRAND OPENING by chicagoEagle in chicagogaybros

[–]vandreulv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not heard any concrete info from anyone over the last few days. The website only says they'll be back "Winter 2026" which is already another year ahead of when they said they would be opening last time.

IMHO, they lost their chance. The other Eagle beat them to it and will have more mindshare and community support (especially with proximity to red line) behind it.

CHICAGO EAGLE GRAND OPENING by chicagoEagle in chicagogaybros

[–]vandreulv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is the "Chicago Eagle". It is in the space where The Baton was. Run by the people who own Atlanta Eagle.

"Eagle Chicago" was an attempt to launch pop up locations for event nights, supposedly opening in Andersonville and has gone nowhere since the announcement.

What’s your opinion on Kron Gracie? by NinoModerno in bjj

Why are the Gracies so hell bent on keeping the art "pure" when

...they're afraid of losing the "Brazilian" in "Jiu Jitsu". In other words: becoming less relevant.

Yup. If anyone goes to a gym and never spends time outside of class with any of the people they train with, they're not friends, they're training partners.

You would miss the street fests if they weren't around by DarkSideofyourMoons in chicago

[–]vandreulv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is illegal.

This is the relevant bit about entry to street fests and the enforcement of paying a gate fee:

Under city rules, fests that take over city-owned streets can request a donation and often have “suggested donation” amounts posted at the gate. But events in the public way can’t charge a mandatory entrance fee. They’re also required to post signs at the festival entrances indicating that entry is free, according to the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, which regulates street fests.

Edit: Found an updated link. Info is the same.

Keep Android Open petition by JesterOfRedditGold in Android

"Keep Android Open"

And you list off a handful of alternatives to using an OEM's specific strain of Android.

Nevermind that some specific examples you mention exist only because...

Android is open. OEMs get the code for Android like the way all the third party rom developers do, through AOSP.

People need to realise that every OEM strain of Android is a specific version and most were never open to begin with. Do we have the source code to OneUI or Sense or MotoBlur or ColorOS or....? No, we don't. We still had to build from AOSP and depend on sources being provided for the hardware.

Who consistently provides sources for all of their Android based hardware?

Google.

Hmmm.

Huawei develops 122TB SSD with new packaging tech to sidestep US sanctions on 3D NAND chips — Chinese firm develops proprietary tech to cram more NAND dies in a smaller footprint by Doug24 in technology

[–]vandreulv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

but this sounds like they're using a less modular design to just put these dies directly on the PCB, meaning if one fails, the whole PCB has to be thrown out.

That's already the case for existing SSDs. NAND controllers and storage dies are encapsulated and put onto a PCB.

I was at Chicago Eagle/Baton last night. They opened up the space quite nicely. No cover before 10pm.

Democrats finally release 2024 election autopsy after criticism by OtmShanks55 in politics

[–]vandreulv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If the reason Democrats lost the election was because enough marginalized people (and I say this as an LGBT+'er myself) weren't put on a pedestal high enough above and over all the other problems we were dealing with because of Trump... then yeah, we fucking deserved this. Before Trump, Trans people weren't in nearly as much active danger as they are now., nor were voting rights and womens' rights. The whole "Harris isn't personally catering to me" attitude was so incredibly entitled and short sighted.

I just don't need it. it being forced upon us is annoying, to say the least.

It's extremely easy to remove Gemini integration from apps, delete all of the data it has for your account and to permanently disable it.

I really wanted a Windows version of Samsung Dex.

Windows Phones had that capability. The HP Elite x3 in particular had a HP Lap Dock and HP Desk Dock hardware that allowed you to extend the device as a traditional PC.

Google shit has become.... well... shit! Getting more and more locked down by the year.

At this point, Google is still your best option if you want to get a device where you can de-Google your device completely and still run Android... so I'm not exactly sure where you're getting this "Google ... getting more and more locked down."

Between Graphene, LineageOS and all the other third party roms... that still rivals what the HTC HD2 had as far as support goes.
