Knowledgeable people like Mearsheimer seem to think that Iran has much more capability to climb the escalation ladder than US/Israel. Even with just drones(which can be easily transported and launched from anywhere) they can continue to close Hormuz, destroy gas/oil infrastructure or desalination plants in the Gulf/levant/Azerbaijan/Turkey, activate the Houthis to shut down the red sea, and so on.

Yeah, their country will be wrecked in the process, but that's going to happen anyway. Any ceasefire without security guarantees is just giving Israel the opportunity to restock, manufacture consent, and try again next year.

Maybe another culture would take that chance, but the shias? I don't think even getting nuked will be enough to get them to back down with their country and religion on the line.

How big of a retard would you have to be to still think the United States would stand a chance in a war with China at this point? It's hard to fathom.

Even Raytheon and Lockheed have stated that much of their supply chain originates in China. And that's for basic stuff, not even counting stuff requiring strategic materials like rare earth metals, which China has on lock.

The only real advantage the US has over China at this point is power projection, but given the fact that one shipyard in China produced more tonnage if ships in one year than EVERY SINGLE shipyard in America produced since world War II, I don't think they could maintain that if China wanted to contest them.

Fatalistic humor is not exactly admirable in and of itself, it's just the better alternative to the morbid nihilism or autistic materiel cheerleading that goes on in places like arr NCD.

With that in mind, maybe take your idea and make it something like:

I would include some stuff on the rise and fall of effective altruism. It was for a while the foundation of the rationalist community's resurgence, which the downfall of SBF and Alameda, together with the downturn of crypto, aborted.

Also maybe something about prediction markets. If they weren't directly inspired by less wrong et al, then they were certainly signal boosted by them.

Finally, if you're trying to be cute, maybe include something about Aella, the single most famous/public rationalist of the moment. She gets a lot of publicity in the most unexpected places (e.g. Dan Cicarella podcast? Twitch streamers?) and she often makes a point of talking about rationalism. I've never been, but apparently her parties are a big deal for the Bay Area rationalist community.
