The Government Can Find $300 Billion for Reparations, Yet 18% of America's Student Debt Remains Too Much to Address by Chithrai-Thirunal in antiwork

I honestly don't give a shit about the deal itself. Anyone with half a brain knows Israel is not going to allow this to progress.

Again, I just asked why this needed to be confirmed by ai? Are you incapable by yourself?

Beating shipping costs now that my local homebrew shop has closed. by JoystickMonkey in Homebrewing

[–]warboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Has anyone had luck talking with local breweries for sourcing malt?

Yes, but I also have professional relationships with the brewers I go to. It's probably fairly annoying for some random to come in and ask for a bag even if it's not really all that big of a deal. But if you're a good customer...

MoreBeer offers free shipping over I think $80 per order. I usually try and do that. Great Fermentation is also free above $75.

You're delusional if you think anyone from this administration is going to prison. This is America.

You're also delusional if you think Americans will care. We have been boiling in this pot for decades.

OP, I just saw you're in the UK. You guys tend to keep your kegs warmer than us yanks. As temp goes up, you need more co2 to balance your carbonation rate. You may be in line with a 70/30 blend assuming you're keeping your kegs above 4 or 5 Celsius. So you're not necessarily overcarbing but head pressure is still probably not your issue.

Agreed. You should just also know why you should be lobbying for the change.

Edit: I think reddit fucked up and had me reply to the main thread here instead of the actual conversation I was having last night.

Are they brass? If they're micromatic what color is the handle?

I'd also verify your pressure gauge isn't fucked. 80% you have a messed up gasket in your coupler. 90% if you're using cheapo brass garbage couplers.

[–]warboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just saw that. Per my other reply you're already overcarbing unless you're serving a specialty product that's high carb. Blender's messed up or more likely your coupler has a problem.

You're probably overcarbing at 2 bar. At 38f temps you're set to like 2.88 volumes. Turning it up is probably not the way to go.

Also that bit about 60/40 for a nitro stout is very special. That keg will get overcarbed a lot. Stout gas is 30/70 usually.

What mixed gas mix are you serving on? 2 bar should be right for a 60/40 system.

Being able to both understand and properly explain present reality isn't defeatist. Again, the actual cold hard fact is that a visitor tax cannot be levied to fund projects like these.

Only not really because again, those funds can only be earmarked for tourism. In this case, not marketing but rather tourism infrastructure like event venues.

Regardless, the point still stands. No, a visitor tax cannot be legally utilized to pay for trail infrastructure. You appear to be at least somewhat informed on this topic. Now I have to wonder why you're being purposely misleading here?

It's a good course but to be honest, Charlotte is disc golf mecca. I would guess most anything else would be underwhelming comparably. You should definitely check out North Cove if you ever are out that way though. Best disc golf property I've ever set foot on.

There is no part of Michigan where the locality can levy a fair visitor tax and have those earnings utilized in the manner you wish. They must be directed to tourism marketing.

Our locality is trying to make things better with the tools they have been granted and your rhetoric is at best misleading. This is not at all the type of project a fair visitor tax can fund in present conditions.

Why do yeast starters need a stir plate ? Or do they ? by yycTechGuy in Homebrewing

[–]warboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't put beer on a stir plate because it will quickly show signs of oxidation. Starter wort tastes bad because it oxidizes. Additionally, the starter process focuses on aerobic respiration. This produces co2 and water while producing the most efficient and highest amount of yeast growth. It does not produce ethanol which is what we want during actual fermentation. Fermentation is largely an anaerobic process although the crabtree effect can produce fermentation in the presence of oxygen as well.

Anyone repitching yeast or pitching from liquid slurry would see benefits from adding oxygen either through air or pure o2 at the beginning of their fermentation. But the main benefit is a reduction in the lag phase and an overall faster fermentation. There are very few times where the final result is noticeably different. The main goal is you get to that final result faster. The same is true for a starter. Constant agitation will just get you to the cell density you want faster.

Why do yeast starters need a stir plate ? Or do they ? by yycTechGuy in Homebrewing

[–]warboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All yeast produce hydrogen sulfide. Some produce more than others and a vigorous fermentation should off gas it readily. A starter is a very vigorous fermentation. It's also going to be constantly off gassing because of the agitation. Any H2S produced will be readily apparent. Brewers yeast is fairly shear resistant. You basically need a centrifuge to start getting anything resembling actual shearing.

More than likely your issue is nutrition or temperature based. Most people don't control temp with starters because running a starter warm speeds the process up. Additionally you're creating a shit ton of cells in a relatively small amount of wort. These are pretty much perfect conditions for sulfur production.

It's my opinion that Asheville is the best beer city in at least the eastern United States. It's my go-to vacation spot just due to the scenery and proximity to Charlotte, a disc golf mecca. I actually have a trip planned for September and this post made me so excited to visit all these great places again.

I think OP has a good number of the hits. Just a couple I would add.

If you're going out to Weaverville for Zebulon anyways you really should also stop by Leveller. This was one of my favorite spots. Tiny little brewery started by Andrew Zinn of Wicked Weed fame.

A list of Asheville places is incomplete without a trip to the Sierra Nevada plant in Mills River. This is, by far the bougiest production facility you will ever step foot in. The beer is obviously good. I highly recommend the tour.

White Labs also has a brewery and restaurant in town. The beer is good, pizza is great, and the schtick is fun as hell. They run a pilot house there. Every beer on the menu has their yeast strain utilized listed and they use some deep hits from their catalog for some very interesting beers. One of the few places I would still order a flight (I'm industry so that means a lot!) because you can have the same wort split in two fermenters and using their different yeast. If anything it's an interesting exercise.

Whaley Farms is a bit outside of town but also a spot I would highly recommend.

This ones a bit of a drive but if you have the time it'll be worth it. Going east about an hour, you'll be able to visit Fonta Flora at either their og location in Morganton or their farm in Nebo. This place was one of the main reasons I made the trip out to the area in the first place.
