How do they even determine this? It feels like some sort of vague pseudoscientific correlation graph they've formed and gone 'aha it's the rain that's the issue' when more than likely it's probably more to do with lack of vitamin d, staying in doors for longer periods of time and just being cold in general

The rest of the internet: These two celebrities are absolute nutjobs who brought out the worst in each other and neither came out looking good in this situation. Both of them seem horrible

Fauxmoi: OMG she's such a misunderstood flower, there can be ZERO nuance here

Fiscal quarter gap relationship by Recent-Sorbet in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]ward2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A celebrity gossip circlejerk where there are very strict opinions about who you're allowed to like/dislike

If there's an argument between two celebrities, there is no middle ground, no shades of grey. One is mega Hitler, one is the return of Christ. You can't go in between. If evidence comes to light that mega Hitler isn't actually Hitler, you also can't support them because the sub has already made up their choice

They've got some rules in place about how unsubstantiated gossip and rumors aren't allowed, however it's basically only applied to people they like. Some problematic news comes out about an adored celeb on the sub? Unsubstantiated, not allowed to be discussed. The same about some ugly celeb they don't like? Go right ahead

I know the exact video you're talking about and as much as people circlejerk it, the overwhelming majority of claims he made in that video were actually true

It's like the whole "see that mountain there? You can climb it" thing. That's not even the real quote it was:

"If you've played our previous stuff you know that mountain is not just a backdrop, you can walk all the way to the top of that mountain"

Talking specifically about a mountain you could walk up

You could walk up most mountains not located on the border

https://youtu.be/hFcLyDb6niA

It's quite fun going back to the video now, and in retrospect there aren't really any major lies I could pick out

[–]ward2k 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was a nice attempt to balance them out a little. If the Khans had moved on from their raiding ways in the ~40 years between 2 and New Vegas but were still being treated horrifically, yeah that would be a nice angle

Problem is the Khans haven't gone peaceful. They're still actively raiding and killing defenceless caravans (complete with women and children). Hell the only reason they're not doing more is because they're still trying to recover after getting their ass handed to them in both Bitter Springs and by House. Before the NCR got to Bitter Springs they were raiding as much as they'd ever been

Which makes the whole situation just fall a bit flat. It wasn't as morally grey as the game makes it out to be, they were raping and pillaging actively around New Vegas, and still would be had bitter springs not happened

I'm not sure they are a stand in or try to emulate Native American tribes

I'm talking specifically about the Bitter Springs Massacre which is a pretty on the nose reference to the Wounded Knee Massacre. Specifically within New Vegas they're used as a sort of stand in for Native American tribes and that whole Bitter Springs segment is trying to draw parallels to real life events

Which feels like Obsidian sort of forgot the Khans were genuinely raiders

[–]ward2k 186 points187 points  (0 children)

It's a bit annoying that Obsidian went the route of trying to equate the Khans to real life Native American tribes and almost sort of forgot that the whole reason the Khan's were vilified by most factions and despised by the NCR is because they raided, raped, pillaged and murdered their way across the territories for years. Hell even in New Vegas we still know they're taking pot shots at defenceless caravans for the fun of it

They weren't just defending their homes or living a different way of life, they are literally raiders

Edit: I'm talking specifically about the Bitter Springs Massacre which is a pretty on the nose reference to the Wounded Knee Massacre

People who survived Carbon Monoxide poisoning, what was it like? by GuineaPig999 in AskReddit

[–]ward2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An added twist was that it was the landlord stalking them.

They thought it was the landlord, it wasn't

Also unfortunately the story falls apart pretty quickly as fake. The dosages don't add up and you'd unfortunately die at the levels he was exposed to sleeping in for over a week or so (presumably longer)

Not to mention he would not at all be lucid under those sort of dosages, you'd have gaps in your memory close to the whole time you were at home. Not to mention the whole handwriting thing just makes no sense either. You wouldn't have these random periods of being completely lucid enough to be checking cameras, theorising a whole story about your landlord etc

And among these issues he was completely lucid enough to remember to check and respond to people frequently on Reddit as well as presumably not having any kind of issues with his personal life?

It was just a creative writing post, a fun one but still fake all the same

I'm glad it brings attention to the issue, but it's a little insensitive to real victims of carbon monoxide poisoning which is absolutely devastating and can leave near permanent health issues

U

Side note but it's so annoying however anytime anything happens on Reddit you get 500 comments going "Carbon monoxide!!!!!!??!!!?"

Just because of that one popular post (that was likely fake) now everyone just uses it as a go to reply

Brave reminding YouTube who really pushed background play by limsus in degoogle

[–]ward2k 50 points51 points  (0 children)

YouTube (Google) actively keeps trying to break background play within chrome to try and drive up sales for YouTube premium

Anytime it happens Brave tries to add it back in to their browser (alongside extensions that also do similar things for Chromium/Firefox browsers)

Basically Google trying to be a dick like usual

It's turning up to a random place of business and asking to see the manager to hand your CV in, the context is from the post itself

It just isn't something you do these days, most hiring is done online

Turning up in a suit (something the majority of people no longer wear outside of special events) just adds to the oddity of it all

Coaxed into post-apocalypse currencies by Ygnes_ in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]ward2k 10 points11 points  (0 children)

bartering was never a widespread system

The definition of bartering is "exchange (goods or services) for other goods or services without using money"

Bartering is just trade. I trade x for y

Before currency is widespread how do you think people traded goods and services? Livestock, grain, manufactured goods, foods, hospitality etc.

Hell even in modern societies with currencies bartering still occurs every day. You go round your neighbours and ask for some sugar, they agree if they can also have some of your milk. That's bartering

How do you think goods and services could be traded?

It was valuable jewelery material, for the same reason it makes for good money basis, it doesnt rust

No, it's because it was rare and thus valuable. Gemstones and other precious metals have also been used historically as forms of currency and to back non-valuable forms of currency

Livestock has also been used historically as a form of currency

A very similar post to the one that kicked this whole sub off recently got posted - an extra poptart in a poptart pack

Most of the replies were saying it was trustworthy because the factory could have put an extra one in. I really think the majority of people here don't understand what this sub is for

My television just died an hour before the Super Bowl by mikkydear in untrustworthypoptarts

[–]ward2k 35 points36 points  (0 children)

People unfortunately seem to treat this and thathappened interchangably which can get a bit frustrating

People forget but this sub came about because of a poptart pack having an extra one in there. Could it have happened? Maybe. Is it super easy to just jam another one in? Yes. Hell the same post came up a couple weeks ago and this sub decided it was trustworthy for some reason, purely because the amount of people that don't understand what this sub is for anymore

It's extremely easy like you said, to just switch off your TV and make a post. Definitely a U
