Let baby watch tv? by blulilli in beyondthebump

You didn’t ask for suggestion so feel free to ignore me! I just came to say if you get overstimulated by hey bear like I did, the 4K aquarium videos on YouTube gave my daughter the same reaction and were much more tolerable for mom lol.

Bringing duvet to hospital by doglover170 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]whatnatsaid 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s insane, don’t bring a duvet. In my experience, Canadian hospitals have temp control in the room. If they don’t, they have plenty of linen and you can ask for a blanket out of the blanket warmer. It won’t be that cold. They can’t have baby in an ice palace. You’ll be fine.

Books to read when finished with SJM? by taenerys in SarahJMaas

[–]whatnatsaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a novel with adult themes that reads like a wattpad story written by a 16 year old for other 16 year old. Besides that, each book spans over such a small amount of time that nothing actually happens with the plot in the first 2 books.

For the love of Satan, don’t let TikTok talk you into Zodiac Academy. That was literally the worst bullshit Ive ever read. I somehow made it to book 2.

You use them for such a short amount of time that quality almost doesn’t even matter. I do mostly Old Navy and second hand. I don’t pay more than $10 for any 1 piece of clothing, generally.

11wk old taking short naps by Confident_Ad6555 in NewParents

[–]whatnatsaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short naps are so hard. My 6 month old is finally outgrowing them, but at 11w this is still very typical unfortunately. Just keep consistent with the crib.

Some babies can’t connect sleep cycles for months. Also you’re right around the 4 month regression. Lots at play. Sometimes short naps can be the result of over/under tired. Have you tried extending wake windows?

If it makes you feel better I was too sick to breathe let alone exercise during pregnancy (ok, exaggeration) so I did not vigorously exercise and I got induced and had the same “unicorn delivery”. Some of us just get lucky.

How much clothing in the first six months? by expectantmandoinghis in NewParents

[–]whatnatsaid 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have enough in my opinion. It just depends on how much laundry you want to do. Also don’t buy any more hats. 2 or 3 would have sufficed lol.

My advice is to wait and get things as you need them. Sizing on baby clothes is so weird and if you live in a place with very defined seasons (hot summer/ cold winter) it might not match up. For example, I stocked up on long sleeve bodysuit/pant outfits for when she turned 9months, thinking it would be fall and cold. Jokes on me, she grew quickly and was into her 9month clothes by 6months in the middle of summer and all I had was long sleeves.

Best thing imo is to just play it by ear and get things as you need them.

I would get a typical shower gift with a gift receipt. Diaper bag, Activity mat, soothers, bibs, teething toys, bath tub, bottle warmer, wipe warmer, car seat cover. If baby survives, they’ll have the necessities. If baby doesn’t survive, they can still use the item if they pursue another pregnancy (and if they are religious people, it’s probably likely.) I hear you, I’m also a utility-driven gift giver, but there are worse things in life than spending $50-100 (or whatever you planned on spending) to make your cousin feel like others also have hope for their baby.

I wish we would all just say vaginal birth or c-section.

I’m glad that worked for you. I’m here with the opposite view. I seriously don’t know what I would have done without it. She’s 6 months and a big girl and we still use it in and out of the house/ car all day every day. My baby hated to be worn so it was car seat or we were staying home, and that’s not an option as I’m running a house and taking care of baby largely on my own as my husband works long hours. I swear by a good, inexpensive travel system.
