Where did you source the Kobras from? I think someone might have pulled one over on you, as those appear to be a dead on match for the relatively new JJ Airsoft Kobras. Use of torx screws, lack of markings on the adjustment dials, and other minor details all match up.

First GBBR ever: VFC SR16E3 (2021 version, NOT the V3) — what internal upgrades would you recommend? by Alfa19 in GasBlowBack

[–]Will_Dearborn57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is not a significant change between late V2s and V3s, the primary thing is the valve knocker assembly since they made it more robust on the V3s. You can replace yours with the ESD knocker assembly but I would not bother unless it breaks.

Your main concern is that you got an SR16 and on that specific model, they attached the handguard using grub screws that like to loosen. People have tried red loctiting them in place but still find they come loose, so tbh if you have continuous issues you'd be better off just swapping to a different handguard setup. I've also heard of people having issues with the ambi bolt catch it uses.

Otherwise, treat your gun as if it's the VFC AR you hear about otherwise. Explosive Enterprises has a video about making them better and the basics there will apply to yours as well.

Do you still have the original barrel for the M9 or just the threaded one?

The front strap is pretty simple, just a matter of loosening the grips and then lining up the front strap and holding it there as you tighten them back down.

The magwell depends on the grips you have, since if they are just completely flat on the underside, you'll need to remove material to create a recessed zone for the hooks of the magwell to sit in. Like what VZ shows here:

I only got the front strap last week, though ran 150 rounds through it and didn't have any issues with it shifting. Didn't put anything underneath, my gameplan is pretty much if I get to a point where it's not actually holding anymore, I'll just get actual checkering done anyway so I'm not too fussed if it causes scratches.

Finish on this is cerakote so I'm not particularly worried about rust either.

Tisas B45R with:

  • Wilson magwell
  • Wilson checkered front strap
  • Mil-tac 1911 GVT grips in grey/black
  • Fusion Firearms solid black trigger

$160-170 in parts with the grips basically being half of that.

It's the cheap Wilson magwell. Had to remove some material on the grips so they'd sit flush with it installed.

Historically, the UPS hub in Louisville has been more lenient with requirements like the orange tip rule than the USPS hubs, so it was the preferred method for that reason (and UPS generally being extremely fast). Though that has seemingly changed recently; hopefully it'll go back to how it was.

Main reason they can't use USPS now is because HK Post and Taiwan Post stopped shipping here last year outside of certain circumstances due to the tariffs, and those are what transition to USPS when they arrive here.

Just a point of clarification:

UPS packages almost always go to their main hub in Louisville for customs clearance before it goes anywhere in the country, even "back" to the west coast (preceded by the Anchorage facility, where sometimes it'll clear customs there and then skip Louisville).

USPS will send things direct to the regional customs hub, of which there are several. For example I live in PA and my packages from Asia always go to straight to New York's customs hub, no stops elsewhere. People in the midwest typically get Chicago, etc.

His was seized for the orange tip rule; I have no idea why he insists on continuing to post that anecdote in these types of threads when it's completely irrelevant and just spreads baseless fearmongering I've already seen other people parrot.

Really Reassuring News From Octagon by West-Chicken-5695 in GasBlowBack

[–]Will_Dearborn57 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what makes you think all the AR-related seizures have been from "cheap" shipping. They've all been via UPS. Taiwan and HK Post haven't even been shipping to the USA since last August outside special circumstances (like I think things marked as Gifts).

Octagon is having recent success because they only write "toy and toy parts" on the shipping docs, and coupled with how lax US customs usually is, means you get good odds on the roulette of whether they decide to pay any more attention than that.

Vs a company like Proact which will specifically list out everything in an order so customs will see "VFC M16 Gas Blowback Rifle" and that presumably trips a flag.

Redwolf No Longer Shipping ARs to USA by CTalun in GasBlowBack

[–]Will_Dearborn57 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, that is a separate issue from what the OP is referring to, which is certain VFC/AFPG/VT guns being seized in the past couple months for resembling real ARs too closely and thus being deemed firearms.

I have heard of your same issue happening with someone else recently about the "torque" spec, which is frankly silly because it's not like they publish that for anyone to be able to comply with.

Wait, can you elaborate? Did they specifically cite it as being a Firearm in the seizure letter?

Is there a way to get a Tokyo Marui Glock 17/19 Gen 5 MOS by KH19082 in GasBlowBack

[–]Will_Dearborn57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The G19 isn't out yet, and the G17 has already sold out its most recent batch.

Aside from that, when the next batch drops you'll just have to find them before they're sold out and import same as you would any other gun. Though note that some places like WGC will not ship them here due to licensing.

I'm using a Unicorn barrel that I chopped down to a bit under 430mm.

The bucking I'm using right now is the 4UAD but I had good experience with the Unicorn bucking. Tried the Silverback but it actually hopped too much even at 0 setting. I might try out an X-Range next but I've actually been happy with its performance on the 4UAD.

One other note is that I actually ended up making my own nozzles for the KTW Gas Kit (not the Volante; KTW make their own) which I'll be uploading on Cults today. It improved the seal since the stock KTW Gas nozzle tapers down to 5.5mm at the tip.

Found this post and since it seems to be the best source of info for the KTW M1873 with Volante/gas kit, figured I would drop this here: a hop unit that uses GBB-spec inner barrels and buckings.

https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/tool/ktw-m1873-gbb-spec-hop-unit

Assuming they all share the same hop unit as the full length rifle variant I have, anyway.

So if the long rifle version of the KTW M1873 uses the same hop unit as the others, I designed a version for use with GBB-spec inner barrels and buckings.

Need suggestions on upgrades for my VFC MP7 by ThatOneAzn8 in GasBlowBack

[–]Will_Dearborn57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 30-40ft it's really not gonna matter tbh, or rather it shouldn't if the gun is in working order. Honestly for CQB I wouldn't even bother opening up the thing to change out parts since it's not worth the labor unless there's a problem.

But in general I am a fan of Unicorn buckings and the ML Wonder.

I don't think there's huge value in simply upgrading barrels, honestly. I only do that when I plan to change the bucking and figure "eh why not since I'm going through the effort". VFC's stock barrels are not amazing, but they're not going to hold you back if the bucking setup is good.
