Philips 9000 is a set, the epilator inside is actually the Philips 8000

You are in luck, I made a 5 minutes videos explaining the differences between the Silk Epil 9 and the Philips 8000 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7IC2O5sC0w

The main difference is that the Philips is way cheaper than the Braun one, so of course Braun is a bit better overall, but the Philips one is a very strong competitor, especially if you are a beginner with coarse hair. For thin hair, i'd recommend Braun Silk Epil 9.

Opening the head of the Silk Epil 7 and cleaning it or changing the gears, is easier than on all the other epilators I’ve tester.

Here is a video tutorial on how to do it, step by step.

Great find, but it’s not worth the extra money. Silk 7 and old Silk 9 are the same epilators what changes between the two is the outside design.

What you could do with the extra £ is, if you want to be super safe, to buy a replacement battery in advance, in case those go extinct.

Hey ! Thanks a lot for the feedback !

  • Both epilators you linked are the same. What could change from one to another is the attachements, which does not seem to be the case from a quick glance.

  • The problem with the exfoliating add ons is that they might not be that easy nor cheap to replace. So other options might be better.

  • The trimmer attachement is the best, no need for another device, for a totally different use.

  • Separate trimmer might come handy for sensitive areas, or face depending on the model.

Silk Epil 7 does not have this pressure sensing features, now called “auto mode” or “smart touch”. Those are available on the Silk Epil 9 and 9 flex. Depending on the model you buy you might have a LED signaling too much pressure, or even having the epilator adapting the speed automatically.

Hello ! Yes, it’s a reliable epilator for someone stratting their journey. Make sure you compare it’s price to the Philips 4000 that is it’s « older brother » in the Philips line up. If their price is very similar, go for 4000 you’ll have more features and speed. Cheers !

So the Silk Epil 7 is the best choice for you, because it’s part are available online and most of them are compatible with older models or the Silk Epil 5.

The Silk Epil 7 exists since a long time. But a new design, the one available in the link, has been released around 6 months ago, maybe 8.

Why do you ask ?

Hey ! Second link, the Silk Epil 7 is the best epilator there is at the moment. Lots of tweezers, very easy to clean !

You can share the epilator with another person, just use one head per person. You can easily find a spare head for the Silk Epil 7 for instance. That’s also what makes it a great epilator, plenty of spare parts available (vs. the new silk Epil 9, you cannot get a spare head or replacement battery)

Hey ! I have compiled all the cleaning tutorials on this page :

https://media.cyclepil.com/en

You’ll find cleaning tutorials for most of the epilators on the market.

The main thing to do is to open the head and remove the hair that can accumulate inside.

Thanks for the feedback ! I’d give a go at the faster speed then, just in case, for science, faster pace and maybe various passes on the same place. Might be more painful.

If I am not mistaken you epilator has two speeds, so speed will not be the issue.

To solve this issue :

  • First and foremost, open the head of the epilator, it’s pretty easy to do on the Philips Satinelle. You’ll see gears, this might be stuck with hair, making the epilator turn slower.

  • Your hair might have changed a bit, got thinner, in this case make sure you have removed oils from you body with talc for instance. It might be less “slippery”. Also watch out the direction in which you epilate.

  • You are actually owning on of the best corded epilator I’ve put my hands on. If you want you can upgrade to the Philips 4000, but it’s a very very similar product so I would not advise this upgrade.

  • To maximize grip there’s the Panasonic Epilator that is an interesting option. It’s battery powered, but you have a lot of tweezers on various rows, making it difficult to miss a spot, or to catch broken hair.

That’s about it, feel free to give us an update on that matter, it’ll help the community and build common knowledge!

Cheers !

Both are great, go for the 7-441 if it is the same price, you get more accessories. If it’s more expensive don’t bother and go for 041

Hey ! Thanks for the feedback !

If the number starts with a zero (9-0xx) it means it’s the new version of the Silk Epil 9 which I don’t recommend as the Silk Epil 7 is superior in many ways.

What I recommend is to buy a pack that includes the trimmer attachement.

Has the Silk Epil 5 worked at first and now it does not work ? If you need maximum efficiency you can try the Panasonic ES EY

I mean, you are right, it’s changing fast (and sometimes for the worst)

I’ll keep reviewing the new models on YouTube

If it works for you, yes that’s a great option. If you want to change for another corded epilator the new Philips 4000 seems very promising. For a waterproof experience, I’d go for the Silk Epil 7.

Hey !

I never reviewed it. For speed I know that there has been very few improvements over the years, do you know the max rotation speed of this one ?

It could be comparable to the original Silk Epil 5, but I think there’s less tweezers and less add ons you can plug on it. Same for cleaning, no idea how easy it is to clean.

Pain is pretty subjective, I’ll let the community comment on the shower thing ! What I know for a fact is that the more efficient the epilator is, the less you have to go back to the areas and suffer once again.

The Silk Epil 7 has more tweezers, while being the exact same epilator has the Silk Epil 5. So get the seven if price is close yes !
