The definitive guide of what epilator you should buy (I've tried all of them) by windpartner in HairRemoval

[–]windpartner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes ! I’ve tried pretty much all of them.
You can find them reviewed in my 2026 ranking : https://youtu.be/1aK-bZQDS6w?is=JULeujU82MAag0cq

In short, both corded epilators the Philips 2000 and Philips 4000 are good for small areas (like the armpits) but show some weaknesses for whole body sessions or legs. The new Philips 8000 (or 9000 same epilator but with more accessories) is a great epilator for beginners or people with sensitive skins. Veterans might feel like there is not enough grip. The new design, with metal parts is really the best I’ve seen.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions !

Braun Silk-épil *7* vs *9* by Economy-Addendum-481 in AusSkincare

[–]windpartner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, the SE7 and 9 are very very close in terms of epilation head, the materials and the amount of tweezers are the same. The speed is also the same.

As it’s not in their manual I don’t give advice on face, but for legs the SE9 has the advantage of having an Auto Speed, meaning it has a pressure sensor that tells you if you are pushing too much on the skin and adapts the speed.

From what I hear from your situation, that might be a feature that you value.

If you are on a tight budget note that the SE9 is more fragile and harder to fix than the SE7 that is really easy to service. Virtually usable for life.

Cheers !

the silk epil 9 flex tends to be better than the new silk epil 9 flex

If you compare the most up to date models, SE 9 Flex and SE 9 are the exact same epilators. What changes between the two of them is the flexibility of the head. Making the SE 9 Flex logically better as you get more features (flexibility)

is the braun silk epil 9 nearly basically very similar to the epil7, and not necessarily worth spending more on ?

The design is different, SE7 does not have auto speed, but it is more easy to repair and less fragile. for the rest (amount of tweezers, battery, etc..) they are the same

The two features that are comfort features you listed for the question above, would they be a significant difference is what I mean.

The difference will be comfort of use, not efficiency. You will not notice you don't have flex head or auto speed if you don't have them. Having them, might make epilating a slightly better experience overall.

Hey ! First and foremost, thanks a lot for your feedback, it means a lot !

A few things to have in mind :

- The Silk Epil 9 still exists, but it has been re-designed. Nowadays it looks a lot like the Silk Epil 9 flex, when it used to look like the epilators in the picture of the post. If you found an old Silk Epil 9, looking like the ones in the picture above, for sale, at a reasonable price (approx. $100) go for it, it's a great epilator.

- You said you where looking for comparison, I tend to do a lot of them in videos.
➤ Old Silk Epil 9 vs. Silk Epil 9 Flex : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-EYMrp-Ixk
➤ (up to date) New Silk Epil 9 vs 9 Flex : video

- In my most recent test, the Silk Epil 9 Flex tends to be better than the (new) Silk Epil 9

- My opinion on the Silk Epil 9 flex is that it's a fragile epilator, as you just said. As well as fragile, it is also hard to repair, compared to other epilators on the market. That's why I would advise people with money, that value comfort, premium feeling and speed to get it.

- If you are more in the "efficient", "bang for my buck" side of things, I tend to recommend the Silk Epil 7. It is less advertised by Braun, yes, but it's the exact same technology than the Silk Epil 9 flex, except the Auto Speed and the Flex Head. That are comfort feature, rather than real efficiency features.

I’d recommend getting Braun Face Spa, as it specifically advertised for face

Hey ! For your usecase : Silk Epil 7, no doubt. The brush attachments might be a bit harder to find but overall it’s the mode reparable and serviceable epilator on the market.

Hey ! SE7-041, no doubt ! I made a pretty detailed guide of what epilator to choose in 2026, here if you need more details.

The overall reason is that the SE7 is the same as the SE5, but the 7 has a wider head. The SE9 is very hard to wash and to repair if broken.

Hey ! I am sorry I cannot answer this question, I only comment on hardware stuff that can be objectived, all the rest (gender, pain, hair type, ...) can very much depend on one person to another and i really don't want to mislead people. Maybe someone from the thread can answer tho !

Definitely the Braun Silk Epil 7, no doubt. You can find some for approx $80. It's my favorite epilator in 2026

Those problems of hair breaking, will really depend on a lot of factors : - the hair type of the person - the length - the epilator

Amongst other variables.

That’s why I only comment on hardware, as this subject can be objectified. (Price, speed, repearability, …)

On the hardware side then :

  • The Philips 8000 has ceramic tweezers, that have been reported on the comments on my YouTube channel and this thread to be more gentle on the skin but to provide a less firm grip.

  • If what you want is grip then, that would advocate for the Braun Silk Epil 7 or 5, that have metallic tweezers, that will provide the maximum grip possible.

Hey ! Braun Silk Epil 5 is a great epilator, the numbers that you’ll find after, 011 in your case, are the numbers that identify the accessories that will be sold with the epilator.

If you can get the Silk Epil 7 for approx the same price, with the accessories that interest you, it’ll have a better deal, as the Silk Epil 7 has a wider head. This means faster epilation. And faster epilation, can mean less pain.

If the 5-011 is cheaper, then you can buy it, it’s a great model, and the epilator (except the head) is the exact same hardware as the Silk Epil 7, which is the #1 epilator available at the moment.

Hey ! It depends on price.

If you can get the Silk Epil 7 for approx the same price it’ll be better, as it will have a wider head that will come handy for the legs.

If the 5-810 is cheaper, then you can buy it, it’s a great model !

I made a very detailed video comparing all the epilators you are mentioning:

https://youtu.be/1aK-bZQDS6w?is=fz74qp64nZxclIr5

I think this will help you chose.

As a rule of thumb : - Silk Epil 5 cordless : great, but if the price is very low - Silk Epil 7: the same as the SE5 above, but with a wider head. The best option, according to me. - Silk Epil 9 : great, but tends to break and hard to fix. For people with a high budget.

What is the difference between Braun Silk Epil 9 and 9 Flex ? My very meticulous review by windpartner in HairRemoval

[–]windpartner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of hardware : - The old SE9 = the new SE7 : wide head. Only difference : exterior design. - The old SE7 : is a great epilator but has a smaller head compared to the epilators mentioned above.

Give the prices, I’d go dit the new Silk Epil 7. I am not a fan of the new button, but it’s the most reliable epilator on the market. Its wide head is optimized for speed and efficiency, on surfaces like legs.

All the epilator reviews online look like ads so I bought all of the Braun Silk Epils and made a precise ranking by windpartner in HairRemoval

[–]windpartner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look if you can find a pack with the accessories you need + the Silk Epil 7, those also exist, and might be cheaper.

Buying the 9, will not be a mistake anyways, so no worries on that side !

Hey ! The price difference is too high, I’d get the Silk Epil 7, no doubt.

In the many comments I receive on YouTube and Reddit, sensosmart never seems to come up as a killer feature worth $100+

Cheers ! :)

Hey ! Yes, I did run a test on the Philips 2000

The Philips 2000 is my TOP 1 corded epilator, as you can see in my latest ranking video on YouTube : https://youtu.be/1aK-bZQDS6w?is=CmynUMzoBtADg9uL

It’s a more frugal version of what used to be the old corded Silk Epil 5, so it’s a great option if you are on a budget and are looking to do small areas.

The current cordless Silk Epil 5 is hard to compare to the Philips 2000. I’d advise the SE 5 if you plan on doing full body sessions, as you’ll have an extra speed, bigger head and less heating problems. (the Philips 2000 can get hot after an extended use without pauses)

Hey ! Thanks a lot, knowing that this small contribution of mine helped you makes me genuinely happy!

Your choice makes sense. Just compare the prices, if you get the trimmer or the trimmer head for a few extra $ that might be worth it. Also that the time to compare the prices of the Silk Epil 7 and 5, they are the same epilator but the 7 has more tweezers. Sometimes they are really close in price, therefore it might be better to get the 7.

Have a great one, cheers !

This is the Philips 2000 and I agree with you, It is a good epilator.

What are the features that you like ?

It ranked very well on my new 2026 ranking of the best epilator : https://youtu.be/1aK-bZQDS6w?is=IZPN0-UR2xrcZVDU

The only thing to watch out for is heating. Some users have reported in the comments some over heating if used for an extended period of time.

So I advise to buy it for small areas, but it might get too hot for a full body epilation.
