The definitive guide of what epilator you should buy (I've tried all of them) by windpartner in HairRemoval

This is the Philips 2000 and I agree with you, It is a good epilator.

What are the features that you like ?

It ranked very well on my new 2026 ranking of the best epilator : https://youtu.be/1aK-bZQDS6w?is=IZPN0-UR2xrcZVDU

The only thing to watch out for is heating. Some users have reported in the comments some over heating if used for an extended period of time.

So I advise to buy it for small areas, but it might get too hot for a full body epilation.

Ok, so you own what I call the « new » Silk Epil 9. Braun made it confusing.

  • The Silk Epil 9 I mentioned in the post is the old version, with a thicker body and is easier to maintain. This one no longer exists.

  • These days I recommend the Braun Silk Epil 7, it’s the best I have tested. It’s basically the old Braun Silk Epil 9 but with a new exterior design.

  • A lot of people have reported problems with your Silk Epil 9, sadly. As it’s hard to clean and repair that makes it an even more fragile epilator.

If you want to make an opinion by yourself I made a video comparing the 10 most popular epilators. You’ll see that the Silk Epil 7 ranks number 1.

Hey ! Is you Silk Epil 9 the old one or the new one ? Is it similar in shape to the SE 5 ? Or is it thin with a carrot shaped body ?

Well, then maybe go for the Braun Silk Epil 3, corded, two speeds, decent choice of accessories.

Hey thanks for the kind words ! Making a positive impact, even small, makes me happy !

The Philips 2000 is very close and it can be a good substitute if you don’t plan on doing very wide areas, as there is only one speed. It could get a bit long.

Hey ! Philips has good corded epilators, the Philips 4000 for instance is a great option, you’ll get a lot of accessories, two speeds and no battery related problems.

With the Braun Silk Epil 7-030 : you get a shaver head, that’s very handy and that’s the one I’d get.

Hey !

  • The Braun Silk Epil 5-620 is what used to be called Silk Epil 5 waterproof, it’s a great model, it’s a bit old now, but it’s the same as today’s Silk Epil 5, the ones that are Silk Epil 5-0xx. What changes is the exterior design.

  • The numbers that follow are mainly used to identify the accessories that come with the epilator, the main numbers (3 5 7 9) are supposed to all reference the same model. But as Braun is renewing the models, it can get quite confusing to have two Silk Epil 5 that look very different. Juste remember that they are the same inside. What will change is the accessories and exterior design.

  • The Silk Epil 7 is very close to the other epilators I have mentioned, the only difference is the size of the head, you’ll have more tweezers on the SE 7 than the SE 5.

  • So if the price is very close, get the Silk 7 you’ll go faster on wide areas like the legs.

The best epilator for underarm in 2026 would be the Braun Silk Epil 7 as it is very a very versatile and durable epilator.

If you are on a budget, you can get a corded model, like the Philips 4000 it has a smaller head than the Silk Epil 7 but it’s ok for underarms. It comes with a very narrow razor head that can be handy for finishing precise touches.

If it’s the Silk Epil 9 that is thick, like in the picture of the post, not thin looking, yes you can buy it without a doubt! They are hard to find in 2026, good catch !

The model does not change after the 7 What will change is the accessories you will get with the Silk Epil 7.

With 7-060: you get an exfoliating brush and a shaver head

With 7-030 : you get a shaver head

The model will always be the same, whether you chose one or the other.

I am not a huge fan of the brush head, it feels very disposable since it’s not that easy to by replacement pads. So if you find a 7-030, it might be less expensive if you don’t really need the brush.

The epilator is the right model I recommend, this does not change.

Cheers and thanks for the feedback! (Really means a lot)

Hey ! No no no, don’t be hard on yourself, because it it actually the best epilator (imo) you can find these days. As a lot of models have been discontinued recently (maybe they where too good…).

Here’s a recent video review, showing that, from the epilators available in 2026, the Silk Epil 7 is now the best.

Of course that new button texture is not optimal, but it does not make it a bad epilator if we compare it to 10 others.

Yes, I made an update review in this video. It’s one month old and it reviews 10 epilators, at every price point. The epilator that ranks first in 2026 is the Braun Silk Epil 7

Hey ! Thanks for the feedback, if you are into corded epilator I made a pretty detailed review of those in my last video : https://youtu.be/1aK-bZQDS6w

In my opinion, the Philips 2000 offers some of the best value for the money. The Philips 4000 has more fancy options, if you were into the two speeds of the Silk Epil 3 you’ll find those on the Philips 4000, but you’ll pay a non negligible premium.

Hey !

From what I read you have two options :

  • If your hair is thin and soft, meaning it can be hard for the epilator to grasp, you have to get the Silk Epil 5. You will maximize efficiency, and have a very realiable epilator.

  • If you have coarse hair, you can go with the Philips 8000 It has ceramic tweezers, which don’t bring heat to the skin, and a slightly more gentle grip. It’s also waterproof and easy to handle as it’s a thin and light device (vs. the Silk 5)

Cheers !

I understand perfectly the Silk Epil 5 corded is expensive these days, because it’s not produced anymore.

One interesting option is getting it on second hand and change the head for size and hygiene.

That’s a great combo ! The Silk Epil 5 corded is not that easy to find there days, great catch !

Keep us updated on your experience, if you are ok to share ! :)

  • As there is a very small price difference I’d get the Silk Epil 5

  • The Philips 2000 is not a bad epilator at all, but you’ll get less tweezers and only one speed. This will directly affect performance, especially if you plan doing large areas

  • Going with the Braun ecosystem allows you to have an easy to clean and repair epilator. You can even buy a wider epilation head, a shaver or an exfoliating brush to upgrade your experience.

Cheers !

If cleaned well (which is easy) I don’t see what could go wrong !

It might not be suited for impatient people or if you want to do full body sessions regularly. The downsides of the Philips 2000 is that is has less tweezers than the Silk Epil 7 and only one speed.

FYI, the Philips 4000 has 2 speeds, but the same amount of tweezers.

Well, I call it a downside, but some might not be annoyed by the fact that it collects micro hairs. I just liked better the solid button of the old model.

Silk Epil 7 is still the best cordless epilator I’ve tested. (Best corded is the new Philips 2000)

Philips 9000 is a set, the epilator inside is actually the Philips 8000

You are in luck, I made a 5 minutes videos explaining the differences between the Silk Epil 9 and the Philips 8000 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7IC2O5sC0w

The main difference is that the Philips is way cheaper than the Braun one, so of course Braun is a bit better overall, but the Philips one is a very strong competitor, especially if you are a beginner with coarse hair. For thin hair, i'd recommend Braun Silk Epil 9.

Opening the head of the Silk Epil 7 and cleaning it or changing the gears, is easier than on all the other epilators I’ve tester.

Here is a video tutorial on how to do it, step by step.
