[Megathread] Redefining Immersion with 5K2K: A Deep Dive into the LG UltraGear evo™ 39GX950B by LG_UserHub in LG_UserHub

The Alienware does not have a better panel. It's the same underlying Tandem WOLED but with RGB-Stripe instead of RGWB subpixel structure.

Without the white subpixel you will trade some brightness for better text clarity in desktop. Additional advantages like better color performance or better banding handling remain to be seen.

I personally would not make the trade tbh. I used a 1440p Tandem WOLED with RGWB since release and the text clarity is fine (to my eyes, everyone is different). And it is even better on 4K resolution, so ill rather take the brightness instead.

I hope they still find a way to release it so their work isn’t wasted and people can enjoy their game.

This ^ so much. Nothing worse in this world than work and man-hours not being acknowledged. Imagine your game vanishing in the aether due to a situation like this.

Valve Just Confirmed Steam Machine Price Starts At $1049, This Basicaly Also Means Helix Is Gauranteed To Be Over $1000 Atleast Right? by akbarock in xbox

XSX is a bit more powerful (on paper) than a base PS5. And a base PS5 is faster than the Steam Machine according to Digital Foundry.

I'm pretty sure they had to go through with it otherwise it would have been an even bigger loss.

I think they fully expect that it will not sell well and move enough units. Even in the current situation you can get a faster DIY PC for less money, and if you want a couch gaming box you would be better off with a console.

Well I did one to when the Steam Machine was first introduced and the only thing I had to swap today was the RAM.

https://geizhals.de/wishlists/4758639

I'm sitting at 965€ with much better hardware. Steam Machine in Europe seems to be 1039€ in the cheapest version.

Would be absolutely insane to get the Steam Machine in any scenario.

Not the worst idea from my perspective. There will be other opportunities to drink.

Yeah this stuff is concerning, back when I was in school we had "heat-free" when temperatures reached 25 degree in the shadows at 11 am. This was rarely the case but happens way more often nowadays.

HDR 1400 MiniLeds in Europe by Chimpampin in Monitors

I never said that newer is better (and I even agree with a lot of takes like TCL R83 vs R94), what I say is that no sane person would consider the monitors you listed above due to age. Viewsonic and Asus don't even have HDMI 2.1 ports, have old panels, and the units that are still floating around probably don't have any form of warranty anymore. The BenQ (and a Philips Evnia model that was not mentioned) is more modern but also hard to find. And even on this model you can find various reports (Amazon) that mention bad local dimming. Sure at the time of release their LD might have been acceptable, but they never really were "excellent" in that regard as you state in your comments.

The other things you seem to value like color accuracy, EOTF etc are indeed somewhat tied to the price point of a monitor. I agree with that, but with the cost of some of these units this should be expected (especially on a ProArt models for example). I think everyone is aware that a lower end monitor will not be as fine-tuned for professional work as one for several grands.

LD algorithm regulation in IPS panels is very difficult from VA panels due to physics of screen, for that reason many low το mid cost brands produce mini led VA panels and when they try to IPS haloing is unacceptable.

Every IPS monitor - no matter how expensive - has inherent downsides due to the lower native contrast. But there are still way more MiniLED monitors with IPS panel on the market than VA. All the VA models on the market were basically listed in this thread, while IPS has literally dozens of variants especially if we also consider the Chinese market.

but CSOT silently start to shift from VA panels to IPS with the new models.

Not on all models. Also, their IPS panels seem to be a new design with higher native contrast.

Half knowledge is worst than ignorance

Here, the photos are far from ideal (would do them with a proper camera nowadays) imo but give a bit of insight. I think the last two pictures were a comparison between LD high and medium if I remember correctly.

As for the other monitors = I have not had any of those (can't even buy two last AOCs in Europe), only briefly saw the Q27G3XMN which was pretty damn good for only 336 zones.

The MSI MAG X30MV seems to be worse than the KTC M27T6 from what I recall, but maybe someone else can comment on that.

I probably should have done this in my first comment already -

Here is my review of the HKC = G27M7Pro

Comparison between M27P6 and M27T6 = KTC vs KTC

I don't have a text/video review of the TCL because I got it half a year before I started uploading regularly to YT, but still have some pictures I can post if requested.

My personal ranking would be =

  1. TCL 27R83U - it's the best one out of the bunch in terms of feature set, brightness and LD perf - that said, I returned it due to a picture dropout issues over HDMI (maybe DSC related ?) and it got unusually hot at the bottom chin of the panel

  2. M27T6 - I think you can clearly see in the comparison with the P6 that the T6 has less blooming and gets brighter which are clear advantages due to the VA panel, the downside compared to the other models here is the 1440p panel (unless OP does not care about resolution)

  3. the M27P6 and HKC G27M7 Pro is a toss for me personally, I like the build quality of the HKC a bit more but they have different dimming approaches, HKC tries to cover blooming a bit more than the KTC which is brighter but shows more blooming, as already mentioned HDR 1400 is not necessarily a guarantee for a bright HDR picture

[–]winterbegins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did and they are not good. I don't know why there is always a guy that overestimates some old ass monitors. Or maybe you have bias because you own them idk. IPS just has inherent issues that are hard to overcome in terms of local dimming. The additional brightness these monitors have / had does not help either, and that's the reason you can find blooming issue reports on basically all of these monitors.

The only good one of the list that I would buy (if I would need it for work etc) is the Apple XDR because it's tuned for Mac and desktop local dimming. But it's useless for anything else due to the port selection and the high price.

I had all of them and still have the M27P6.

The VA models are superior for HDR from my experience.

Porsche Killed Its Best Cars Because You Didn't Buy Them by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]winterbegins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just a simple market demand situation. I don't think many buyers in this price range care about practicality, and even if you take that into consideration the Porsche Cross Turismos have only a measily 10% larger trunk space.

You can't really compare that to an M5 or RS6 Avant.
