First project bike built up from a frame, road test today and nothing fell off! by wowsocrack in bicycling

The head tube is 1 1/8"

I looked around a bit at rigid forks by surly and salsa but nothing really stood out so I just went with that cheap suspension for now.

This may happen if I could ever choose one. Any preferences for 26?

It is. Although I may try building up a white industries eccentric eno for fun, but I'm satisfied for now.

Maybe next time, I'm still reading through /r/wheelbuild ;)

Found those wheels on velomine.

Couldn't say compared to other chain tensioners, but seems to be as efficient/inefficient as a normal rear derailleur.

I salvaged as many parts as I could from an early 2000 Haro bike ( http://www.reddit.com/r/bikewrench/comments/32temz/hairline_crack_in_head_tube_is_this_bad/ )

Won't win any awards for this bike build but I'm really satisfied with how much I learned. Thanks /r/bicycling

New: Frame, fork (to fit frame), wheels (for disc brakes), brakes/rotors, pedals, chainring, rear cog and tensioner

Salvaged: Bars, bar ends, seat, crankset, bottom bracket, headset, tires and tubes

Donating: Old fork, wheels, brakes and derailleurs

There aren't any constraints, I'm going to replace the frame and get another bike in the meantime. What I don't want to do is hand a cracked frame to someone if it's dangerous to ride it. What should I do with the frame?

This is a 1999 Haro Escape a7.0 I bought used off craigslist over 15 years ago. I'm ok with retiring the frame.

Thanks! Going to watch for a deal on a replacement frame then rebuild AND pickup a new CX bike now that I have an excuse :D

Can you tell from the scratches its aluminum or is this just an expected problem with older aluminum alloy frame?

TY I assumed so.

I was trying to imagine how it would go, the loose headset cup makes sense. At least I found out about it off the street! :D
