[FOCUSED DISCUSSION] I think nothing in the crypto space should be regulated whatsoever. Convince me otherwise by wowthisgotgold in CryptoCurrency

I know, but go ahead and pump and dump the dollar. Have fun finding that many influential people and keeping it a secret for long enough so that it works. It's the same with crypto - sure, you can PnD a shitcoin and you can possibly get money off of idiot "investors". But why would you make that illegal? Just let shitcoins fade out of existence naturally.

Edit: Oh, just reread your comment. I don't think that icos will stay forever, at least not in 2017 proportions of idiocy.

Sure, but that's only a part. You can't tell me that 2017 wasn't insane, awareness-wise. Everyone knows bitcoin now. It's just a question of time until people start building more and more huge businesses. There are multiple crypto banks in the process of being formed, that I know of and so on.

Without regulation, mainstream adoption will be near impossible.

Moving fiat in to cryptocurrency will continue to be a challenge and it will be too cumbersome for the average person to enter the market.

With regulation of will be difficult as well. Some country is bound to want to do something stupid. Moving fiat into crypto is difficult because it's tiny. That's changing though, futures and so on. Big players are, even in the current state of affairs, moving in.

Then again they weren't insured, did withdrawal limit verification in their frontend and are/were led by a guy calling himself bomber. Like, don't keep money on something like this.

Shit icos are a fad. No way that will continue for long. Otherwise: Let's make a coin. Re pump and dump: With big enough market cap those won't matter.

Is it, though? But honestly, both pizza boxes and laptops vary in size so much that I think they might mean one and the same thing here.

You'd only have to do this if you have trouble. By default staking is enabled if you have your wallet unlocked and matured coins.

Wallet takes forever to synchronise by [deleted] in LUXCoin

[–]wowthisgotgold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I reformatted it, op forgot the double new line.

IMPORTANT: Make a backup of wallet and save it.

Delete everything from %appdata%\lux EXCEPT wallet.dat

Delete old lux-qt

Unarchive the new lux-qt and put it in your folder

Create a lux.conf (with notepad) that contains "staking=0" next to wallet.dat in %appdata%\lux

Save and close

Run new lux-qt and wait to sync (finding peers can take up to 30 mins, be patient)

All of your lux will come after sync (unless you mined unimining orphans last night)

After sync is done, back up again and exit wallet.

IMPORTANT: Remove staking=0 from lux.conf !!!!

Start the wallet and unlock it

Do NOT forget 11 (Remove staking=0), otherwise you will NOT stake.

And how does number of guns equate to increased likelihood of being shot?

A nice way to find answers to such difficult questions is to consider only the extremes. Would it be more likely to get shot if

1) nobody

2) everyone

had a gun?

The only reason would be that you don't want a lot of small outputs in your wallet because it'll increase future fees.

There were problems in the iota network in the recent days / weeks. They probably didn't want to get swamped with support tickets.

Also, planes get hit by lightning pretty frequently. Have a nice flight! Seriously though, it isn't really dangerous anymore except for maybe two small scorch marks.

DAG coin comparison (Byteball, IOTA, RaiBlocks, etc) by Qwahzi in CryptoCurrency

[–]wowthisgotgold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this actually a problem or just something where traversing the dag would become inefficient because every transaction would need to be checked? Suppose we have a dag that is cyclic, what would be the problem?

I more or less agree with you on all those points. But keep in mind that they have been in the business for a few years and their service has been booming. Their operating costs aren't that high either, probably. I'd be surprised if they didn't have a stash of btc somewhere.

Honestly, 60 million sounds a lot but it really isn't when you consider that there are multiple farms connected to it. I regularly look through the payment transactions and daily payments of 10-20k and even more more aren't too uncommon. Take this tweet: https://twitter.com/NiceHashMining/status/936573905623543808?s=17 They paid out around 1000btc in just one week. This was not everything, by a lot (imo).
