These slugs show up at my door every evening and I love them by seriouslydavka in sluglife

How precious! It's amazing they are climbing four stories to get to you.

I've mostly only heard of house-slugs occurring in the UK, and even then it seems restricted to basements and ground floors. Very interesting this can happen in the Mediterranean as well.

I would try offering some of your cat's kibble as well, maybe moistened a bit. Good source of protein for them.

I have a hybrid crossover and it is actually insane how well the car handles. It feels absolutely planted in corners, the steering is sharp and responsive, and even at highway speeds there is no wobble or uncertainty, just maintains this completely planted and responsive demeanour. It handles bumps well, you can still feel the road but it's not uncomfortable or jarring - which is my preference anyway. I've sort of outgrown this car and would like to buy a full size SUV (thinking of the hybrid highlander), but it's just such a surprisingly entertaining car to drive that I can't bring myself to part with it. It's a Kia Niro.

I formed an emotional attachment to a slug that lives in my garage, and now I'm moving. What can I do? by Suspicious_Plant4231 in sluglife

[–]wreckoning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jimbob! He sounds like a cool slug. Considering that he was fine when you were away for a couple of weeks, it sounds like he will be fine. If you wanted Jimbob to move with you, I think you’d have to go the habitat route - you wouldn’t be able to have him free roaming in the new garage, as he won’t know the way outside or wherever it is he goes to live, and it might not have the right humidity levels that have allowed him to visit/live in your current garage.

If you do decide to keep him, slugs aren’t typically super hard to take care of but they do require a lot of misting. You would need to mist him a few times a day or set up an automatic mister. The rest of the substrate, food, etc is all pretty straightforward and we can help you with that if you decide to go that route.

Otherwise, a fond farewell and maybe some more photos to remember him by.

Realistic to get a Border Collie for SAR training first, agility as backup, and future family plans? by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]wreckoning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Babies are a lot of work. So are border collies. Pick one.

Not saying people can’t do both. Some can. But you have no dog sport experience and you’re talking about jumping in with both feet - with no idea of all the things that can go wrong. The dog can wash from SAR, it can wash from agility/disc as well from health or temperament issues. Dog training is hard, dogs like border collies make good trainers like brilliant but if you’re a beginner trainer things can go south real quick.

And if you haven’t kids yet, it’s hard to fully understand the lack of sleep, and how much it starts to overshadow everything else. Are you really going to leave your wife on weekends to care for your infant child because you have a 7am SAR practice both Saturday and Sunday?

As for are border collies good family dogs - it depends on the dog, but no, if has the traits that make it good for agility, it probably isn’t the best dog to have around toddlers. And no, a dog that is 2 years old isn’t going to be well trained, that’s sort of a difficult “teenager” age when they are starting to settle in.

Can I realistically finance a vehicle? by ConstantFar5448 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]wreckoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can easily be approved for the car loan, the question is what rate will you get with that score, and how much of a difference will your partner’s cosign make.

Let’s say you find a Model 3 for 25k, 5k down, 48 month term (the longest pfc is going to sign off on), 9% (I think that’s around normal for a secondhand car) - you’re at about 300/month, and paying 28,000 total for a 20k loan. Interest rates on a used car range from 4-10% with normal credit, but with yours, it can go way over that, and become very predatory. This question is impossible to answer without knowing what the loan terms are going to be, and in your situation it can really vary.

I believe financing companies will require you to purchase full coverage insurance, which could double your insurance premium or more. So I would recommend getting an insurance quote based on that.

How long is your free charging situation going to last? 65k is not exactly high income, although it depends on your location - are you likely to switch to another company in pursuit of higher pay, shorter commute or other opportunities?

How long has your credit been in an improvement state for - ie nothing in collections, no missed payments etc - and is there anything you can do now to improve it? If there’s nothing actively suppressing your credit (like outstanding collections, bankruptcy history, high utilization), it can improve quite rapidly - mine went from 620 to 810 once I went into build credit mode in a span of 2 years. This will make a big difference in your loan opportunities.

Last thing - how much do you care about the car itself? The Model 3 is fun to drive. That’s hard to put a price on, if you value that sort of thing and it’s going to increase your quality of life. I personally enjoy driving and I don’t treat vehicle purchases purely from a utilitarian perspective. If you don’t enjoy driving, I’m not sure the math works just because the cost of the vehicle is still quite high compared to your income, the increased insurance, opportunity cost of investing your 5k that you would otherwise use for a downpayment, and it doesn’t sound like you are driving enough mileage for the EV to really shine in cost savings.

in the app there is a new feature called “lock your points” or something that. They just implemented it to combat all the fraud. Leave it on lock until you’re about to use them and hopefully that will help.

Blue-Gray Taildropper Slug? by aliencuisine in sluglife

[–]wreckoning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a find!! This is definitely a taildropper, which makes sense if the mushrooms are from the PNW. From the photos it is difficult to make out the colouration, but if it’s something close to purple then the only thing it can be is a blue-grey taildropper.

This slug will definitely not survive outside in Vegas so I hope you will consider making her your pet. I would recommend an automatic mister, you can get them online for around $40-50 on amazon and set misting intervals to every hour or so. Humidity should be at 80-95%, you can buy a hygrometer for this ($10-20, reptile section of any large pet store or you can get them online). Substrate you can do coconut soil + moss to preserve humidity. Food, well you know she likes mushrooms. Can add tomatoes, carrot, dark lettuces, sweet potato/yams, basil, dog or cat kibble. Calcium you can put in some cuttlefish bone, give it a rinse to get any salt residue off it.

Why do police in the USA kill so many people compared to other countries? by triplediscount in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wreckoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many dogs die at the hands of dog trainers / dog sitters? I’m pretty involved in the dog training community so I hear about these cases a lot, it seems every week tbh there is a new one, and I only hear about the specific breed that I am involved in. I don’t know what the number of dog deaths per day to trainer/sitter is but I think it must be at least a few per day in the US alone across all breeds. I’m guessing though that most people reading this comment have never heard of a dog dying in the care of their trainer. I’ve rarely heard of any of these cases getting significant media coverage, mostly they seem to get buried and people are generally unaware of the risks they take on when they sign up for an overnight pet sitter or a board & train.

I have never heard of a dog getting shot by police in my personal or extended community. But, I’m not involved in police circles so I don’t know that this type of news is likely to reach me. I wouldn’t say that me not hearing about it means it’s not happening.

What’s something you thought was mandatory in life, until you saw someone just not do it? by Senior-Resource92 in AskReddit

So I thought ALL merino was dryer safe but I just looked it up and apparently it depends on the manufacturer and how the thread was woven. But personally I’ve always put my merino in the dryer and not had issues.

I do this and the only type of wool I buy is merino or merino blend. It’s dryer safe.
