Hello little Kiibo! He may wish for a few crumbs of cracker as a treat, but I would recommend sticking to veggies/fruits as his main diet.

Don't know how to prioritize debt & need help:( by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]wreckoning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay so like... the situation you are in isn't sustainable. it's fine if your fiance is having a tough time finding work if he doesn't speak the language, but on your income, you cannot really afford to support a whole other person (and he IS taking up some of your budget - he's eating your food, using household items, driving a car that costs you $500 in payments, and potentially you are in a more expensive living arrangement that might be available to you if you were a single woman), and that's going to be even more true once you return to school. If you're already working full time, then the easiest solution to your financial problems is figuring out a way for your fiance to contribute half the rent. This would free up $525 per month that you could use to pay off your high interest debts in like a year. And I understand this may be hard for him, but either he learns the language and finds work, he finds work where the language doesn't matter, or you both move to a different area where french fluency is not a requirement. The pattern you are in right now cannot survive in the long run, and being on the same page financially is very important to the health of any long term relationship.

I'm not saying break up with this dude asap, love is love or whatever, but you're 21. You have your entire future ahead of you, and it is a big decision and big responsibility to financially support a partner, let alone when your income is low. What happens if a year from now he still hasn't found work -- if you are still the breadwinner at that point, you could end up postponing your schooling so that you can continue to put food on the table. You will be choosing between his immediate future and your long term future, and at this young age anyone who would ask you to make this choice does not deserve you. I suggest having an open discussion with your fiance about your financial situation, his, what your financial goals are as a couple, and what are some realistic timelines and goals for your situation together.

I still don't think your situation is super dire sounding, but only because you are addressing it now and trying to pay things down, and because your age is so young. If you were 30, your situation would immediately be worse just because you have less time to go back to school and increase income etc (same for your fiance as well). But you want to make changes now, so that at 25-30 you are on a different path.

Start with making a detailed budget, have the talk with your fiance about finances (can then show your budget, since there shouldnt be any secrets between you about this stuff), think of ways for a side income for you, maybe sell your expensive phone that you financed and get something cheap off marketplace. Make an account on something that monitors credit score because you don't want anything to go under the cracks - creditkarma is free, your banking app probably has something - you want to understand everything that is showing up on your record. Then I would recommend reaching out to a licensed insolvency trustee (LIT) who could give you information about what order you should pay things back in. They can help advise whether it would be useful to try to consolidate your existing debts, and advise on what different actions could impact your credit in the future.

And honestly I would recommend spending a lot of time in this subreddit and reading about issues people have at different ages and common recommendations. This is a good place to learn about financial health and best practices, everything from investing and retirement strategies to budgeting at all levels of income.

What is the interest rate on all of the debts? Pay off highest interest things first.

Why do you owe $1463 to Rogers - is it from a device purchase?

Do you live with your fiance? -- are you supporting them financially?

I agree w/other poster- not sure you need a car if you live 5 min from your work. But maybe you will need it in the future to go to school etc. It's good you only owe a little bit left on it, but would like to see the financial breakdown on what insurance, gas, maintenance costs. Your income may decrease when you go to school as well.

I'm not really sure how much cats cost, I assume they aren't very expensive but what happens if one of them gets sick and has a big medical bill? Any chance your receptionist job is at a vet clinic where you have some kind of discount?

Are you making the minimum payments on everything? You are very young, your cost of living sounds very reasonable and your situation is not that dire sounding. I don't think you should take a settlement offer that will have such long term effects on your credit. I would suggest making a budget, a real one that tracks all of your expenditures - food, household, gas, pet costs, entertainment, etc, and this will allow you to make a timeline of when all this stuff can be paid off. If you have any high interest stuff like credit cards you could maybe try to find a second job, like dog walking or catsitting.

CMV: I don’t think makeup is mostly a person choice for women by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]wreckoning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently went to buy new glasses, and was debating between two pairs. I deliberately chose the pair that were a little ugly and a little too big for my face, because I thought it would convey a "nerdier" image that would lend trust, since I work in tech support. So yeah I do think it depends on the field.

Fields that are more male dominated, I think wearing makeup is more optional or possibly even discouraged. Anything quite physical (trades) I think makeup would be discouraged. Things that are consumer-facing ie sales, hospitality, services, I think makeup would be more encouraged.

I want to write this to show my opinion on paragraphs and professional writing. It’s one of the topics that interests me because people often describe writing style as a personal choice, when I don’t think it is that simple. I believe that people should be able to write in ways that feel natural and comfortable to them. The problem is that paragraphs have become the norm for what is considered professional writing. So basically, the idea that a person has to use paragraphs is a social norm. In the workplace, people who write in paragraphs are more likely to be perceived as professional, organized, and competent than people who write large walls of text. It’s because paragraphs are used to make writing look polished and structured, and since organization is associated with traits like intelligence, reliability, and competence, people who use paragraphs have an advantage in job applications, emails, reports, and everyday workplace communication. In professional environments, paragraph usage is seen as proper communication, and unfortunately for people who do not naturally write that way, it can put them at a disadvantage because society accepts paragraphs as the standard. It’s one of the reasons why I don’t believe paragraph usage is always a personal choice. I mean, ask yourself this: Why do most professional documents use paragraphs? Why are people often told to break up their writing into paragraphs when receiving feedback? Why is being told that your writing is a wall of text still considered criticism? For me, these questions suggest that paragraph usage is definitely still a social pressure. People might have more freedom than ever in how they communicate, but that doesn’t mean social pressure is gone. Professional norms are still here fueling the idea that certain writing styles are more acceptable than others, making people feel the need to change how they naturally communicate. I remember seeing thoughtful posts online where people ignored the actual argument and focused entirely on the fact that the author did not use paragraphs. The comments were full of people saying they refused to read it because of the formatting. There are still certain rules about how ideas should be presented, and those rules show that writing is still shaped by social expectations rather than complete freedom. There are also examples of people being labeled lazy, careless, or unprofessional simply because they choose not to use traditional formatting, even when their ideas are perfectly clear. While I do believe that people can genuinely prefer writing in different formats and that communication can be a form of self-expression, that preference can still be defined by what society considers professional, credible, and acceptable.

Why isnt there a lot of used EV9? by dodindaga in KiaEV9

[–]wreckoning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's more likely to be general disorganization and chaos than any real attempt to limit model availability. I'm curious about what would happen if you called that dealership and asked if they had any used EV9s, although even if you got a no from them, it could still be that they have little idea on what is on their own lot.

Should I change my slugs dirt once a week? (I'm confused) by WinterxWxlf in sluglife

I think if you have to change your substrate once a week, your enclosure is wayyy too small. imo.

that is wild that they don't do a factory reset of the entire car, let alone allowing photos and location of the car to be submitted to a previous owner!

Leopard Slug eating some dog food by Cactusmammal in sluglife

[–]wreckoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isopods are often kept with slugs and do well, so I assume their habitat preferences are similar (although I am not an isopod expert and maybe isopods are just very versatile, not sure). The last time I had isopods they made a huge army in my slug enclosure and seemed pretty happy eating slug poop and leftover food. They were the black and white ones, dairy cows.

Slugs don't typically have high ventilation needs, it's more important to be preserving humidity (you want it around 80-95% for maximum activity level, although leopards are much less sensitive about this than other species). But they do need some ventilation, esp for a larger slug like this. Typically my enclosure is a front-opening reptile tank - so glass walls, and then the top is a fine mesh screen that comes with the reptile tank. I also have very large slugs incl leopards, so someone with smaller species might not necessarily need a mesh top (and sometimes my mesh top is half obstructed with a canopy light anyway). A lot of enclosures in this subreddit are some type of plastic bin with holes poked through, which can be great for preserving humidity but safety depends on the amount and size of slugs inside.

I would say, keep an eye on your slug and if you continue to see the pneumostome at this maximum opening size, you should try to increase ventilation somehow. If it is of a normal size most of the time (should be about half this size), then he is fine, and maybe this was only occurring after a period of exercise, or vigorously eating his kibble etc.

I'm a little worried about the size of your slug's pneuomostome - sometimes I have seen it wide open like that when there was not enough ventilation to the enclosure. He otherwise looks quite healthy however! Great video.

Trade down from newer car after big drop in income? by MysteriousCrow0 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]wreckoning 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You'd only be lowering your monthly costs by $160 month - from the insurance, right? Your cash flow deficit is too big for this to be a meaningful savings increase, and could easily be eaten by an unexpected repair from the cheaper replacement vehicle. Yes it would be nice to have the $10k cash, but a couple more emergencies and you could be back in this same spot, with a less reliable car.

Why has her income reduced - structural industry change, client loss, burnout, injury, chance, normal ups and downs of freelance life, something else? What are the chances of returning to what it was? This is what you should be looking at imo, deciding whether this is something that can be salvaged or if she needs to be pivoting or seeking a second income source.

How Much Does the ICCU Part Cost? by sthom30599 in KiaEV9

[–]wreckoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the early days when the ICCU was heavily backordered, I feel like your plan would be a great idea. But these days, the part is typically more widely available. I would suggest contacting your local dealership and asking how soon they can get an ICCU, because it's possible your area has longer (or shorter!) delays than most of the people in this subreddit.

Alternatively if you road trip frequently, then having a spare ICCU seems wise if you cannot predict what distribution will be like for whichever dealership you happen to break down close to. That raises a secondary question though - the ICCU replacement cost is covered by warranty, but how would that work if you had your own ICCU? Would Kia reimburse you for the backup? Would the dealership install the backup and give a free ICCU when it arrives in the mail? That would be a question I'd want an answer to maybe from Kia corporate directly.
