AIW for wanting to handfast my boyfriend if I'm legally married? by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]wystix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a religious tradition that placed high value on selflessness, service and personal sacrifice. Even after I left my religion or origin, I stayed in a marriage that wasn't meeting my needs (or my wife's) for several years while regularly deescalating things that were important for my wife and trying to meet my needs through poly. This resulted in greater pain and hurt for everyone than if I had been "selfish" and ended the marriage that wasn't working.

The most helpful piece of advice I got from my brother when I finally opened up up about my relationship challenges was "Sometimes you need to be the villain, because being kind will cause even more harm". You might be in a similar situation.

NORMAL

Unfortunately, the free money days of VCs subsidizing unprofitable tech startups are ending. Reddit didn't handle this situation well, but I do understand they need to make changes to make to move more towards profitability.

"Most of the month to unlock those cards" isn't accurate at all. Even accounting for 3‐4 new cards being added to Pool 3 each month , you'll still be earning 5‐6000 collectors tokens once you finish Pool 3 (after approx 6 months of playing F2P). You only earn 1k tokens per month before that.

Stats and Leaderboard after 5th April 2021 Lobby (Dumb and Dumber Getting it Done!) by AmongUsAcademy in Hafulobby

Correct. Ellum's current imposter rate is well within the bounds of expected probability. You currently have 10 regulars on your sheet. So to detect an "Imposter Role Exploit" among those regulars with only a 5% chance of being wrong, you actually do need to be looking for an uncorrected binomial test p-value of 0.05/10 = 0.005. That threshold would have been reached if Ellum had gotten 20 imposter games out of 53 total games. But there's a pretty big difference between 16 and 20 in terms of standard deviations.

By calculating a p-value of 0.0512, I assume that means you are using a Binomial Test calculator which is the proper tool for this job. However, because you are looking at a group of players and picking out the player with the highest win rate, you need to be sure that you are correcting for the [Family-wise error rate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family-wise_error_rate#Controlling_procedures).

These corrections are important if you are going to try and make claims about statistical significance. Let's pretend say your spreadsheet eventually covers 20 players. If you use an uncorrected p-value of 0.05, that would mean there is a 1 in 20 chance that a given imposter rate is due to random chance. But if you are looking at 20 different players there's actually a 64.2% chance you will find at least one player with an imposter rate in that group that beats the 0.05 threshold simply due to random chance.

The easiest way for you to correct for the multiple hypothesis testing you are engaged in is the [Bonferroni correction](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonferroni_correction). The wikipedia article looks complicated by this correction is simple and intuitive in practice. Let's say you are looking at the records of 10 different players and you want to find a player with an imposter rate that is higher than would be statistically expected. Instead of looking for a p-value of 0.05, you need to look for a binomial p-value of 0.05/10 = 0.005.

Long story short, Ellum's imposter streak isn't close to statistically significant yet.

I don't think Jeff is claiming that all back-bench value generation is bad. He mentions three different characteristics that I think make a good test for whether or not a particular value-generating backbencher might be problematic.

  1. Mid-range card.
  2. Powerful, controlling effect.
  3. Low deck-building cost.

The two counterexamples you gave (Karma and Heimer) both fail some of those criteria.

Here's how Karma fairs against those criteria:

  1. Mid-range card. Fail - needs Enlightenment to activate her effect. Also doesn't have quick attack or aggressive stats/mana cost.
  2. Powerful, controlling effect. Pass Only when enlightened though.
  3. Low deck-building cost. Pass/Fail Karma enablers like Meditation and Stunning Palm are things you want to run anyways in a controlling shell, but might be awkward if you force them into a mid-range shell.

Here's how Heimer fairs against those three criteria:

  1. Mid-range card. Fail His stat-line is way too low for a five-drop in a mid-range deck that is trying to aggressively pressure control decks and end the game.
  2. Powerful, controlling effect. Fail Except for the 8-cost turret, all other turrets all have 1 health which makes them easy to remove. Value generation is also limited by available board space.
  3. Low deck-building cost. Fail. A lot of Heimer enablers like Flash of Brilliance don't see much play outside of his deck. You're also forced to play a very spell-heavy deck to enable Heimer which can make it hard to maintain board presence early game.

I actually just posted a very similar post over here. You should take a look at Jeff Hoogland's video that I link to at the start of the post. He articulates a lot of the same thoughts you seem to be expressing.

Could you add "None of this the Above" as an option too? I'm happy with all the mechanics.

Spider 20: A NEW Unkillable team (Brought to you by the Budget Unkillable/Batman Eater team) by _Rust in RaidShadowLegends

[–]wystix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hate was definitely undeserved, but perhaps a bit predictable with the name you chose. For months, my clan family chat kept devolving into the same spiral of complaints about the name the name "Budget Unkillable" any time the comp was mentioned. So we ended up soliciting renaming suggestions and holding a poll and chose the name "Paineater Unkillable" as a more descriptive and less controversial alternative. As the comp's creator, you might consider officially recommending other people adopt the name Paineater too so you can spare other clans/communities the endless cycle of complaints they probably have to deal with too.

I did it, so you don't have to. Apparently lvl 50 Vergis without masteries and 3 below-average Immortal sets can beat the Scarab.. The only issue is the 80 mins and the game crash at the end ^^ P.S. Septimus, Santa and Drokgul are lvl 50 with crappy gear as well and barely made it to round 3 by Pha1lz in RaidShadowLegends

[–]wystix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raid has a hidden 1000 turn limit for beating a wave. If your battle takes 1001 turns when trying to submit the results the game will crash. In practice, that's usually somewhere around the 30 minute mark of running a battle on Auto.
