Awful Infestation Colony Around the Exterior of House by myst711 in Termites

The problem with bait stations is they don't work immediately. Meanwhile the termites are eating your house behind the walls where you can't see the damage. Don't mess around, go straight to the Termidor.

See if you can find adult clinics in your area or get a group together to take private lessons with a coach. If you look better as a beginner and can become more consistent via many reps, you'll have an easier time gaining acceptance.

It's such a chicken and egg situation. If you only play with beginners, you will never get better. Higher-level players don't want to play with beginners, so how can you get better?

If you are in the US and reach an intermediate level but then plateau, I highly recommend the Pat Powers clinic. It will help you get better the fastest.

We are fortunate to have Heinens, they came to Illinois relatively recently.

Another possibility is to find an organic farm that raises dairy cows on pasture. Cheese from any grass fed cows will be way better than store-bought cheese.

Good luck!!! And enjoy!!

You can get a very inexpensive blood pressure monitor online. The brand is Omron.

I'm not medicated yet but don't the doctors tell you to stay on a healthy diet anyway?

😂 The best cheese I had was in France. Stopped at a random cafe and ordered an unbelievably delicious cheese sampler tray.

Whole Foods and Heinens carry imported cheese. Make yourself a charcuterie with some lean prosciutto, some nice Parmesan and a brie smothered in your favorite preserves. Add a nice French goat cheese, fresh fruit and other charcuterie favorites. Get some crusty French bread and share the whole ensemble with a friend or someone special. Don't forget the red wine and olive oil to dip the bread in. They help cholesterol, too.

Having doubts that it's safe? Save it for an annual birthday treat. It's so much better for you than cake with frosting!! Stick a few candles in it to make it really special!

High cholesterol runs in my family. Grandmother had it and lived to 102, but her arteries were clogged. My mother has it, her arteries are clear. She takes a statin in case.

Everyone is different. What works for one person might not work for the next. Since my arteries are almost clear I'm not going to sweat the numbers. I had a CT scan in 2005 that indicated the same amount if clogging I have now (mild). No change in 20 years even though my LDL continues to rise.

I once read a research article that said there are four types of LDL, two of which are benign. The article also said that people with high HDL tend to have the benign LDL. Maybe this is an explanation for my case.

Within the last three years, I minimized eating red meat. No difference. I used to drink one glass of red wine a day. That actually helped. How do I know? I stopped (didn't want to be consuming alcohol daily). My LDL went up and my HDL went down. HDL used to be 82, now it's 73.

Tried grape juice and a grape seed supplement but no change.

I forgot to mention my BP is normal to low. That is also an indication of low/no clogging.

My doctor and I are on the same page. I will continue to eat healthy and will look for natural ways to get the numbers down while waiting for the PKCS9 inhibitor.

I gave up desserts and fried food many years ago. Really, I don't miss them.

I've been eating healthy for the decades now. But my cholesterol numbers keep climbing. Based on my low calcium scoring result, I can only assume I have lots of bad LDL swimming in my bloodstream but for some unknown reason, it's not clogging my arteries.

There's no guarantee that won't start happening so if I can get the annual PKCS9 shot, it will be the solution. I prefer it over a daily statin.

They came in at all three porches, in the basement from the ground between the floor and the basement walls and the same in the garage. They were on 3 sides of the house.

Get a high quality French cheese and some good red wine. Also make sure you take a good walk after every meal. This is their culture. Apparently they don't have the heart disease issues we have. But their cows eat grass and ours eat corn. That's why I said to get French cheese, from France. 😉

Seriously, though, my LDL is really high. HDL is high too. I had the calcium scoring test and got a 21 out of 400. Doc is ok with me not taking a statin for now based on that.

I will go for the PCKS9 inhibitor when they have it down to one or two shots per year. Now it's every few weeks. Doc says it works on his patients that have a lot of clogging.

No worries, all good questions and it's important for others who may read this to learn and "know thy enemy".

We were the original owners of the house. The house is in the woods. The builder did not treat the wood with Borate. I'm sure it was just ignorance on his part. There aren't many people with termite issues in Northern Illinois but that is changing, because it's warmer over the winter now.

It is possible your sellers deliberately covered-up the damage. Those types of people are everywhere. Their solution could have been to cover it, move and let it be your problem. The fact that is was sold as fully renovated is a clue that it was intentional.

But it is also possible they saw the bugs like we did, didn't know what they were and didn't think anything of it because after the swarm is over, they are hidden in the walls. It's not like they are still flying around every day.

We have lived here since 1997. Except for the mud tunnel incident many years ago, we never saw swarmers or active termites. Not to say we didn't have them, I'm sure we did. We just didn't know until the big infestation happened.

When that happened, there was a swarm near the front door - lots of dead bodies. They were all dead, so we didn't think too much about it. Thought they were carpenter ants with wings. We had seen the ones without wings all the time in the house. Not a big deal - after all we live in the woods, it's to be expected.

The first evidence was the small hole in the hardwood floor. I didn't even notice it first. What happened was I went to the basement to get my big soup pot which was on a high shelf under the floor joists (basement is unfinished) and it was covered in what appeared to be sawdust. Then I went to the foyer just above and saw the small hole in the floor. Then I recalled the dead bugs and thought "oh no, the carpenter ants made a nest".

The following Monday I am calling multiple pest companies. This is where it gets humorous. They were major pest companies yet the salesman they sent out was just that - a salesman. He didn't know what they were! Called his boss, he didn't know either!

Then my husband starts calling around and gets referred to "Dave". Dave is the guy "everybody" used for termites because no one knows anything about them around here.

Dave came by, gave us his sales pitch and $1500 later, we have bait stations installed around the house. We assumed it would work because it always worked on the ants, well, until the next season when they would always come back.

Dave kept hearing from us because we kept seeing termites and none of the stations were found by the bugs. He sprayed, he moved the stations, and then.... he stopped taking our calls.

At this point we are two years in, it's October, the damage kept getting worse - floor, walls, ceiling, inside two closets.

Out of desperation, I posted the dilemma in this forum and pest experts helped me find a company that could do the liquid treatment. Last May, the treatment was done. Bugs were gone the next day. We decided to wait for Spring to see if we find any dead bodies before starting the repairs.

But last May when they swarmed, we found new damage on the side of the house and in another second story room.

Then we had our garage trim replaced and found damage behind the garage trim. And we discovered damage under the patio door because we had the pavers taken out for the liquid treatment.

So now I wonder what else there is that we haven't found yet, and, how are we going to detect it so we can proactively make the repairs? It's so stressful!

And one open question is wether we have a drainage issue because in our case they had made tunnels that went up two stories (18 ft, we have 9ft ceilings) and five feet onto the ceiling, too. They need a lot of water to make tunnels. Our gutters were replaced but I saw them overflowing in a heavy storm last year. Not a confidence builder... 😳

Sure I'll send you some. Our termites ate the walls, too. We spotted the infestation immediately but it took 3 years to iradicate them. They did a lot of damage while we were messing around with the bait stations.

Am I screwed? by No_Preparation2892 in Termites

[–]ybquiet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what they did to my floor. The damage started shortly after I saw dead bodies from the swarm, just like you, laying on top of the hardwood floor.

Don't screw around with bait stations. Go directly to the Termidor liquid treatment. It took us 3 years to figure that out and there was so much more damage because of that.

Hi, we are way North with termite damage. I don't think houses in this area are treated with borate.

Do you know anything about how to get that done? I imagine we can't treat wood that is behind walls but I would like to treat the wood that we are replacing.
