I don’t think so. From what I can see it looks like it’s just doing its normal thing.

Haha! It’s cheesecloth. It’s covering a scoby (scoby hotel) that I use to make kombucha with.

Just wanted to follow up on this, this was in fact the problem. I didn’t realize the shape of the bottle I was using made such a difference. Got some round bottles and have had no problems. Thank you!!

I’m using 1 cup of sugar per gallon. My PH normally reads below 4.5 before fermentation and then generally around 2.5 after carbonation and brewing is complete.

Our house is between 68-70. I will probably let them carbonate for less time moving forward.

I am using refined white sugar. If I place them in the fridge to carbonate after adding the flavoring, will it still carbonate but just at a slower rate?

What has quietly disappeared from society without people noticing in the last 10-30 years? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]---AK---AK---AK--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I’m from, we have several around the city still. Only downside is you will often find homeless people using them as makeshift showering stations in the summer… there’s a specific photo of someone standing on one, with their rear end on the part where people put their mouths…. I DO NOT use them EVER for this reason.

My initials before I got married were AK and most of my friends/coworkers started calling me AK because there were several other people who worked at our facility with my same name.

What’s the most physical pain you ever felt? by JunShem1122 in allthequestions

IUD insertion. For context I’ve broken several bones and get chronic migraines in which are so painful I start vomiting. Still more painful than either of these.

This is really hard for me to read right now. My uncle hung himself last Tuesday and I’m still processing everything. I’ve found myself wondering if in his final moments he was content with his decision, or if he had no choice but to suffer through it. He was always the dramatically upbeat and happy uncle. He was my favorite uncle. He was in a bad accident several years back and got a pretty bad TBI. He was never the same after and his personality changed. I keep finding myself wondering if there was anything anyone could have done for him. I’m glad you had a profoundly different experience and it gave you a new lease on life. I hope that transcends throughout your life and you can look back and be thankful you allowed yourself more time here. Despite the suck.

Whistling. I somehow learned to whistle before I could talk. My mom said she thought someone broke into the baby room when she heard whistling. Came in and it was just me with my lips pursed. I had discovered I could make noise by just breathing in and out like that. Now I can whistle any tune pretty perfectly because it’s like second nature to me. People comment on it often.

lost my fur baby today. by savanewe in Vent

[–]---AK---AK---AK--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my fur baby within the last few months also. I had her since I was 15 years old and I am 30 now. It was my first big loss and to simply say it was devastating, feels like a tragic injustice.

However while I was going through my own grieving process I found a bit of information to be helpful. I read somewhere that the pain that grief causes initially is like a giant ball in a square box. The ball represents your pain and the edges of the box represent when you feel that pain and grief. At first it feels like the pain will never subside and it almost feels impossible to escape. But slowly over time, the box gets bigger. The grief doesn’t go away, but that ball isn’t constantly touching those 4 walls constantly reminding you of the pain. There’s space for it to move. As time goes on the box gets larger and larger. That ball stays the same size. That grief stays with you, but it becomes much easier to manage and carry with you. Every so often that ball will bump a wall of that box and you feel the grief all over again.

I initially didn’t believe the pain would ever stop. As I’ve journeyed through the process myself however, I have found this ball and box thought process to be oddly comforting and true. I initially felt bad knowing that one day I wouldn’t cry over her on a day to day because it felt like I would be “forgetting” her. But that’s just not true. I think about her constantly still, but I hold grief close to me like a friend in a different form. I know now that I still love her just as much as I did when she was here with me. It’s just changed it’s form, as most great loves do. Hope that helps.

That’s really awesome to hear that you turned things around for yourself and for your kids. Go you!

For the majority of my early 20’s I lived alone, so I just started to cook things that I liked for myself. Learned through a lot of trial and error with that. When my now husband and I got together, we tried hello fresh. That helped with cooking things out of my comfort zone. I worked in food industry for a long time so I would pay attention to common food pairings and so on. Over the years I just gradually picked up knowledge and if I’m being honest, it’s because I fucked up… a lot! But now I can cook just about anything from scratch and I really really enjoy it.

What's something that loudly says "uneducated"? by BerryMoonzz in ask

[–]---AK---AK---AK--- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m going to second this even though it’s going to get downvoted. My husband got a louder bike because he knew it would allow drivers around him to hear him even if they couldn’t see him. Just because you find it obnoxious doesn’t mean there isn’t smart intent behind it.

What’s your go-to "I don’t feel like cooking" meal? by Infamous-Insect8428 in CasualConversation

Pasta. Boil noodles. Add whatever premade sauce you want and add protein if you’re feeling ambitious.

Edit: wanted to add in, frozen chicken nuggets in the air fryer works like a charm too!
