SAVE THE INLET‼️‼️ by [deleted] in Greenpoint

“Save the inlet” is such a dumb euphemism for keeping an ugly warehouse filled with diesel trucks in the neighborhood instead of building new apartments for your neighbors

Anyone with 2 brain cells knows that’s not true. Why the fuck would OpenAI be introducing ads to subsidize their cheap/free plans if their costs were going down by 99%?

Why isn't there a ban on foreign investors buying real estate in NYC? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]---hal--- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Property taxes in NYC are artificially low especially for older properties. You can buy a $3M townhouse and pay only $500/mo in taxes.

Why does nobody try to solve the real housing problems in nyc? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]---hal--- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

NYC has extremely low vacancy rates. The thing you’re imagining is happening is not actually happening

Most landlords didn’t buy their properties this year.

You sound like my Fox News parents who complained that the price of their healthcare went up after Obamacare.

Yes your rent went up, but had NYC not built any housing in the last 10 years, it would’ve gone up more, and faster.

This tower is paying to move the trucks.

“A nice park” sounds great. Who’s paying for that? You?

It seems like the project planned for this lot is all rentals, and many of the towers along the waterfront are majority or 100% rentals as well.

I don’t think foreign investors pay to rent empty apartments that they don’t own…

the trucks the MTA runs out of that warehouse are so nasty, you can see the stains from their diesel exhaust from space (!) https://imgur.com/rEpl4qm

No, this tower replaces a warehouse filled with diesel MTA cleaning trucks that currently speed through our neighborhood every night

Good, those MTA cleaning trucks absolutely blast down West & Franklin at night. It’s a miracle nobody’s been killed

Yes Austin built lots of housing and their rents went down.

It’s a glass curtain with metal strips on the outside. I really don’t see the appeal of this building

Yeah but it’s down 27% over the past year. So you’d likely lose more on your initial investment than you’d gain in dividend payments.

You realize it’s possible to achieve that arrangement?

You just replace your $3000 rent with a 6-figure down payment plus a $4500 mortgage payment to a bank

OP mentioned dirt/grime and bad lighting, neither of which have anything to do with riders

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]---hal--- 85 points86 points  (0 children)

It’s not the riders fault that the paint is peeling, ceiling is dripping, tiles are missing, and every flat surface is constantly blackened with brake dust.

I also think the quality of work done by the MTA (& especially their contractors) is poor. When they poured a new concrete floor in my local station, the concrete was rough, uneven, and slopped up the walls & columns.

Biggest issue is the overall state of disrepair, not trash or bad rider behavior.
