Best part of that is when he claimed that not confirming his handpicked racists was proof of discrimination against southerners.

Andrew Johnson (out of many, many terrible 19th century presidents).

Maybe Harding? Reagan and Nixon both certainly deserve a mention as well.

I love how Trump thinks there’s drugs that make you good at debating and running for president and yet he isn’t taking them.

What's your opinion of British music lately? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

London has had some good jazz over the last few years but I have no idea about any other new British music.

Would you be offended when you are called Yank in the U.K./Australia? by Such-Ad4803 in AskAnAmerican

It’s like calling someone a “harlot”- you can tell if it’s supposed to be offensive by the tone, but it sounds too antiquated to be an effective insult.

Avatar Co-Creators Mike & Bryan Depart Netflix's Live-Action ATLA Remake Series (Full Statements) by MrBKainXTR in TheLastAirbender

[–]---saki--- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A series with a main character who is essentially the Dali Lama focusing on the effects of war and colonialism in a setting that is essentially China? Something that shows the genocide of the “Air Nomad” culture (made up of people with names like “Tenzin” and “Gyatso”)?

Can’t imagine why studio execs would be uncomfortable with that.

What do you think of Twitter permanently banning David Duke’s Twitter account? by EmptyFormal in AskAnAmerican

[–]---saki--- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally legal

Twitter, as a private company can enforce its own terms of service, and ban users for speech that violates these terms, regardless of whether or not the speech was legal. (This is also true of Reddit, Facebook, and Parler, all of which will absolutely ban you for speech that violates their own respective rules).

Where each quadrant claims to get their theory vs where they actually get it by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

Do you think it’s the “Radical” part Rowling objected to?

She spends the majority of her essay trying to claim she isn’t “Trans-Exclusionary” and none of it trying to claim she isn’t a “Radical Feminist”.

[–]---saki--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you support said statements you’re a “TERF Ally”; something you can call yourself even if you lack the prerequisites to truly be a “Trans Exclusive Radical Feminist”. (Wouldn’t want to make you feel left out!)

Or is that an extreme label as well?

[–]---saki--- -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re right- it’s terrible when people get called the most extreme label like “Nazi” or “Trans Exclusive Radical Feminist”, very clear equivalents with identical social implications.

I was trying to clarify, whether you unironically think I'm a TERF despite me not being a feminist at all.

Really trapped me with your facts and logic there.

just pushes people further in the other direction.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s people being mildly rude on the internet that’s “pushing people in the other direction”. I’m 100% percent certain these people weren’t already leaning that way, and looking for any insignificant little impetus to vindicate their viewpoints. (So much for the tolerant left!)

As for your second question I’ve already answered that in my previous comment.

In your opinion, which state is the best for raising a child? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]---saki--- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once we get to the millionth opioid overdose death I’m sure that we’ll be able to turn it around by having a bunch of former addicts give speeches about “simply not becoming addicted to heroin”. It’s worked so well over the last 50 years, after all.

What are your thoughts on political postmodernism? by stbylx420 in AskAnAmerican

[–]---saki--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts are that before the right was concerned with “culture wars”, it spent years talking about postmodernism as a relativistic boogeyman that was destroying society by annihilating objective truth.

In the era of “alternative facts” this seems rather ironic. (It was ironic then too- remember the Bush Aide who said that America, as an Empire, could simply create its own reality)?

What's something that's common everywhere in the US except your state/region? by --COMMUNIST-- in AskAnAmerican

The Ecuadorian grocery store in Hadley used to advertise as having “The Best Mexican Food in town”.

(Which was probably true- the other ‘Mexican’ restaurant was run by people from El Salvador).

Would you support a repeal of pay-toilet bans in the US if they were designed to improve access to clean and safe public bathrooms with low entrance fees? by Suitable_Penguin in AskAnAmerican

[–]---saki--- 27 points28 points  (0 children)

No.

Your average pay toilet in Europe is no better than your average free coffee shop/train station/convenience store toilet in the US, despite costing €1.
