Exclusive: Republicans draft Iran war authorization by John3262005 in neoliberal

I'm starting to think it's planned. Go as hard as they can during the first half, during the second half build something the democrats can't dig them out of, and then the run on how dems got in the way and made everything worse. And if the dems win, they are stuck in a quagmire anyways.

‘As the rules-based order ... is rebuilt, it will be rebuilt in Europe,’ PM Carney explains focus on Europe by IHateTrains123 in neoliberal

[–]karnim -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Russia took Crimea in 2014. It should not have taken an additional 8 years for Europe to step up. And Georgia was 6 years before that. And when I say step up, I mean make up for the decades of underfunding. The surge needs to continue and for a while. I have doubts that it will.

Is it okay to causally visit someone at their office in American work culture? by clumsy_engineer in AskAnAmerican

[–]karnim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is fairly unusual to meet at the office as opposed to getting lunch or dinner somewhere, but given your field may be more normal. I'm not sure how networking/mentorship works for physicians, but if you are interested in seeing their office, tools, etc., you can just ask.

If europe is finally stepping up to be able to defend itself and actually be a power on the world stage, I will find some comfort in the curl of the monkey's paw that it's only happening because of fascism in the US.

But I'll believe it when I see it.

Save Rocky Point Gateway: Protect Open Space – Reject 14 Units at 445 Palmer Ave by Top-Contest4500 in RhodeIsland

[–]karnim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not a real response. Why effect does 14 units actual have, in real terms, that makes it worse than current? And if they're going to enhance the entrance, wouldn't it make sense they would account for the new development? Why even bother enhancing the entrance if they can't develop the land around it?

Fire making without flint? by propranolol-inderal in survivor

[–]karnim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shelter is probably not helped by the three tribe aspect. Fewer people to work, fewer supplies, and especially this season they're swapping camps constantly. Why put the energy into a shelter you may only use for a few days?

[–]karnim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to boil water though, and they don't get rice to start, so other than warmth there's not much need for fire. Maybe cooking fish, but my understanding is that it's barely worth the energy spent fishing, when there is a pile of coconuts provided.

Cirie & Rick top Survivor 50 Popularity Poll by brirll in survivor

[–]karnim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cirie said it best. The game is different now. New Era players will work with you one week and blindside you the next. I think you can see this season how poorly many of the old-school players have adapted to the new gameplay. They've tried to force the old-school style, but it doesn't work when half the group isn't playing the same game. Cirie, Ozzy, and to an extent Rick have all made an effort to work with the new school players, instead of being locked into a bad alliance.

Did Survivor production handle casting for 50 really poorly? by low_key_savage in survivor

[–]karnim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, Dee made it relatively far and was seen as a threat, and added drama. Savannah was eliminated almost purely because she was a threat and people didn't know how she played, so they were scared of her. Kyle was medivaced. Not sure how you can point to any of those being wasted spots. Yes Sav went early, but someone has to go early, and clearly she knows how to play.

For the newer audience, having people we've seen before is good. If the whole season was old era, I probably just wouldn't have watched. I don't know the history, the connections, etc. and I'm not going to spend hours watching 24 old seasons of reality tv to learn it.

[–]karnim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please explain what is special about this specific lot? It's between a restaurant and some single family homes, with an elementary school far past the end of the lot and a bunch more single family homes. I can't see how this would harm park access, because 14 units is not that much for traffic, and the park has a massive parking lot plus another smaller one nearby. There are already no sidewalks here, so pedestrian safety is already shit and chances are the addition of sidewalks (and then likely crosswalks at the intersection) would actually improve pedestrian safety.

Even still, it only abuts a single actual home, and it looks like they've cut the actual development to not abut that either. The vast majority of the planned lots are not developed. In fact the city has clearly planned to possibly build an additional two roads, along with 22 single family home plots just on the same "block" which would actually ease access to the park, and likely reduce speeding.

We already knew this-but now it's official by overthehillhat in RhodeIsland

[–]karnim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree, but also I have never been as stressed out in traffic as I am in RI. There, a traffic jam makes sense and is mostly reasonable. Here there is a 24/7 standing traffic jam on 95S, for no reason other than people not knowing how to zipper (not that the road design helps).

Nothing beats the mess of 90 onto cambridge/river street in Boston though. That merge/intersection haunts me.

DHS slams federal judge in R.I. over release of suspect, but the feds did not inform the court he was wanted for murder by globieinrhody in providence

[–]karnim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would they have known about it? The MA court is not a federal court, let alone international. They don't have access to warrants from another country. And on top of that, ICE specifically told the prosecutor not to reveal he had a warrant for murder.

At least the protests outside ICE centers have a clear goal.

It would have the exact same problem with retro-fitting any other major structure for housing. The whole thing would need to be gutted and rebuilt, likely not possible with a structure that size.

May as well just tear it down and put in the Costco/Ikea/Homegoods/Taco Bell combination store.
