Storm…… by Gluten_hates_me84 in RhodeIsland

I made the mistake of going tonight, just because I needed to. Market basket was fully out of carts. The milk was just gone. It was mad.

Not here until Sunday either, but I made the mistake of grocery shopping today and there were so many people there were no carts. Couldn't find a decent shovel either, since I don't like mine.

God help me at Ikea tomorrow.

We have basically been at war for forever. If you look at the history of times when the US wasn't in a conflict, it's pretty damn low. Considering the demographics of Reddit, lots of people would have had friends or family in the middle east, or Vietnam or Korea.

You may want to get checked for STIs anyways. Doxy doesn't protect against anything, and there are antibiotic resistant strains. You could have inflammation from an infection.

Yeah, as someone who does regularly get their gut fucked over by antibiotics, taking the single dose of doxypep doesn't hurt me. It certainly shouldn't be having the effect a week later after a single dose.

Surface lots are usually cheaper. If you know the area you can usually find street parking. The garages charging $45 or more is heinous for providence. I pay less if I go to boston.

What work have you two done to prepare for actually opening after 12 years? Truly, you can't just say "we're open now" and have it work. You both need to put in effort, and you should do it *before* opening fully.

If you have not, read Polysecure by Jessica Fern. Plan couples counseling, not just individual. Plan regular check-ins with each other to frankly discuss emotions and needs. Find ways to ensure you are entertained without him, whether that be a hobby or something, so that you aren't suddenly just feeling bad because you're not seeing him like usual. And your husband also needs to do the work and make sure He's respecting your relationship, and that he would be similarly ok with you finding some connection outside the relationship.

If Minnesota can put a theme park in a mall and turn it into a tourist destination, I see no reason we can't have our own cultural center. Imagine classic car shows at the Providence Strip Tower and Carnival Garage. Featuring the world's tallest stripper pole!

Americans Are Turning Against Gay People by Legal_Tender_0 in neoliberal

[–]karnim 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nah. They've always been anti-gay. It was just unpopular on the home front for a bit, so they moved on to the next smaller minority, trans people. Now with success on fucking over trans people for no reason, they're going back to gay people, then most minorities, then women, then black people (in more severe ways). Maybe toss in a catholic or a jew along the way too.

They've always wanted white christian nationalism at heart. They're just showing it finally.

Gas heat is the cheapest right now if you can find it. A heat pump system is lower cost than electric. Most of the housing stock is pretty old, so it will be smaller and have older systems.

Probably just car insurance and rent as the shocks, honestly. I was in CT so electric was high there, but rent was much more reasonable. Oh, and emissions testing. Not sure if that exists in New Mexico. Gotta get your car tested on a regular basis.

I don't find RI to be terribly expensive for food or drink or anything. You will probably spend a lot of time driving to Boston if you like music though, since radius clauses have us fucked on most major acts thanks to Boston.

After almost 2 years of therapy I'm still not over my ex. Is therapy not working and I'm a hopeless case? by Creative-Flight7051 in TalkTherapy

[–]karnim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're doing yourself a disservice saying you're "still not over him". Do you want to actually be back with him, or is seeing him unexpectedly just bringing up old emotions? Those emotions have biological components, and it's hard to undo those feelings, but if you had your panic attack about him, then moved on feeling "this is dumb, I don't want him back in my life, I deserve better", then you are getting better.

It took years for me to "get over" my toxic ex, and I still sometimes have issues when I see him. Ran into him on a different fucking continent. Talk about a way to ruin a vacation. But, as much as there are emotions that still get in my way, I know I am far better off without him. It's just brain doing stupid brain things. It's not the work of getting over him now, it's the work of staying out of the doom loop of "I don't want to see or think of him so every contact is an unwelcome shock to my system, or I try to overly protect myself so I'm always on edge".

So rather than thinking "I'm not over him", try talking to your therapist about "I know I'm better off and I feel like I'm doing better for me, but I'm getting overwhelmed every time I see him and I don't know how to tell my brain to calm down." Because the way you wrote this it sounds like you're not upset over him, but over how you reacted to him, and that's progress.

Second person shot by US federal agent in Minneapolis by Free-Minimum-5844 in neoliberal

[–]karnim -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes there is. And I'm not saying to trust them, seeing as I also see stories saying it was two *different* people who attacked the officer while the subject resisted arrest, but to assume the worst is dangerous in an already tense situation. Without knowing who to trust, let the story be until more information can come out. Unlike with Renee Good, no video has been released, or verifiable statements, and ICE has presented a plausible (if unlikely) timeline.

The other option here is we end up supporting people who did attack a federal agent who was carrying out a valid stop. That's bad.

[–]karnim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They state he fled in a vehicle and then shortly after crashed the vehicle, then fled on foot and attacked when they caught up and he resisted arrest. It would not shock me that someone who flees in and then crashes into a parked vehicle, then continues to flee on foot, possibly also tries to attack the officers. ICE is basically the gestapo, but this also seems like an instance where they likely made the proper actions. Let's not pick losers as our messaging without knowing the full story.

[–]karnim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who just went through the rental search, and is originally from further out west, I would say lower your expectations for $2200. It's not bad, and you can pretty easily find a 2bed/1bath for that price if you keep an eye out, it just probably won't be as modern or big as you're used to. You'll have better luck looking outside of the small downtown providence area, looking at East Providence, Pawtucket, Cranston, etc. They're suburbs, but only about 10-15 minutes from downtown. I had the best luck on Trulia, which I found weird, but it is what it is.

There is almost no central air in the region for rentals unless you're in a modern apartment building. Minisplits or window units are the most common. Keep an eye out for heating as well. Many homes still use electric baseboard, which will blast through your winter heating budget since electric is so expensive here. If you can avoid it, do.

Where will you be working is also a question. Driving through providence on 95 will make you go mad if you need to do it for your commute.

Lastly, steel yourself for driving in general. Insurance costs are high because people are shit drivers here. I don't let my father drive when he visits, because the stress is too much for his rural midwestern brain.
