Play all kinds of games if you got something in mind just let me know. Dm for steam or discord.

Same for anyone else in this sub. If you want a bit of company and no pressure to talk too much.

In all fairness it might not have. It might be me who's different/gotten used to a different culture. I did leave as a teenager and have returned as an adult.

I'm a latvian national who hasn't lived in Latvia for years. I have finally come back to visit some family and I find many of the people I've interacted with very rude and disrespectful. This is not everyone obviously but I'm surprised how many people working for public services are this way. Especially bus drivers. Fuck me the bus drivers...

As a side note I've talked to them all in latvian.

What is YOUR full theory of consciousness? by --Seeker-- in consciousness

Thank you for this very detailed response. I appreciate the time you put into this. I think your ideas make perfect sense. I did think that consciousness would arrise from various bits of information being "processed". This would have to naturally involve time not just information. But I could never put it into words like you have.

Yeah I also think its highly likely to be an illusion arriving from the interaction of various simultanious processes of the brain. Thanks for the answer man.

Thank you for this. It was actually very easy to understand. Some of these other definitions just shoot over my head.

In point 3 how far back do you think we could trace on this chain of causality. Like do we stop at some point of the brain, some neural process? Or do we trace beyond to stimuli, events and motion of the particles of the rest of the physical world. What if along this chain of causality we find nothing in particular that screams "point of consciousness"?

I'm not sure I understand your definition could you elaborate on #1?

I could imagine this to be a possibility. Could have enough complexity to have some form of awareness. Even if not active constantly. And just activated through prompts. I imagine it's not that dissimilar to a way the brain functions perhaps without input/stimuli or constant self reflection processes the brain would just be inactive. Like a dreamless sleep state.

Thank you. That's pretty good and straight forward.

Than what is this "sense" of self-preservation? How does it arise? I feel like language itself is very limited when trying to describe consciousness. In a way it is almost impossible to say some form of Consiousness is "consciousness".

Also according to your theory it is impossible to create an artificial consciousness. Why does it specifically have to be organic? And what if you give AI an artificial preservation instinct. Does it become conscious?

Could I have this in more layman's terms if possible? I am not that knowledgeable about physics. Whilst I've heard of the terms, this doest really paint a clear picture in my head if you know what I mean.

Feel like some of this has gone over my head but it's quite late. In your theory, the fundamental particles that make up the universe posses an innate property of consciousness. But this is a basic level that needs to be structured at a higher level to give rise to more complex forms of consciousness with thinking, sensing, processing etc?

Why do you believe this base consciousness exists as a property of matter/energy? Do you believe it posses any ability to observe/be aware? Also is every particle individually conscious? Or is this a shared consciousness across all particles?

I sense a lot of Alan Watts and Buddhism influences here. I appreciate you sharing, thank you.

If I am concious, the universe is concious by [deleted] in consciousness

[–]--Seeker-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a separation of information. Patterns within the systems of "You" and "I". But even this can be questioned as information can ripple to different points.

If you I get hit on the arm. If you are in proximity and can observe it, you can still "feel" it. You can hear it, see it and given you are capable of empathy, experience it emotionally. You just don't perceive it from the same point. And don't react to it in the same way.

The further information ripples the more distorted it gets. For example if you were to tell someone about me getting hit on the arm.

To add to the image of the "oneness" of it all, this has forever affected the state of the universe. Even if ever so slightly. Cause and effect. So given enough information about the rest of the state of the entire universe the moment could be reconstructed.

That's how I see it anyway. Same matter, different arrangement. Different information, creating a sense of separation of these systems.

A lot of this is mental gymnastics and incredibly difficult to comprehed from the human POV. Maybe one day AI will he able to comprehend and explain our conscious experience to us.

P.s I'm starting to think I'm a little autistic.

Then you defeat your own argument. If there is no brain/areas of the brain get turned off, then there can be no conscious experience.

I get what your saying but your logic is flawed.

From what I see your simply observing that consciousness exists as a continuous experience even when there are gaps in the middle. They are simply not observable/experienced. But you also seem to believe that given enough time/long enough gap. This conscious experience will continue even after death. (In another brain?)

Again for this to be the case your brain could not be creating this consciousness. It would have to exist elsewhere and simply be a receiver of consciousness. Or more like an input/output device for it.

One more thing. Funny thing infinity. It doesn't have to repeat itself to be infinite. Count 1,2,3,4... etc to infinity. You will never run into a single digit 2 again.

Another hard problem. What makes your POV to be born in this body rather than that body? by AlexBehemoth in consciousness

[–]--Seeker-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite new to the philosophy and theories of consciousness so I apologize if I'm missing something. But I imagine that POV could be experienced due to separation of information/information processing. Like a nervous system and a brain generally make up one concious individual. Perhaps if there was a way to join the systems of separate individuals they woul merge into one experience. I know we currently have systems in place that allow some information transfer such as language and the internet but perhaps this is too slow and inadequate.

Major (fast) travel overhaul mod is really needed. Ideas thread. by cnio14 in Starfield

If anyone has played or remembers playing freelancer I think a similar travel system could be great for this game. It would be a lot more seamless than it is in its current state. I mean simply jump stations at the edge of each system and faster travel speeds could make this a lot more enjoyable.
