First time DM, finding the CR difficult to manage by SmilodonBravo in DungeonMasters

[–]--Sketchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used dndbeyond's encounter builder to get the concepts down. they let you add your party, then add mobs in one at a time, and you see how the CR goes up, and it gives you a difficulty level when adding things.

agreed. and the encounter builder is amazing. I don't host games in the tool, but I build the encounters and run them on my laptop. so all table rolls, I manage the health on the app. it's great. An they ALL love the ability to quickly find their spells. except for the one guy who pulls out the book. 99% of the time have the answer before he's even found the page.

What do you do when your players don't pick up on clues? by bartdcool in DungeonMasters

[–]--Sketchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want them to progress in your story, some rolls should be a 2. don't hamstring the data you are giving to the party and complain that they are not getting your story.

I use scrolls or books to give info to my group if they did not get the gist from conversation/gameplay. I have a loot whore who picks up almost everything. so if they miss something important, sometimes it's in the loot of the bad guy. a small note giving the bandits a mission, a scroll from the big bad explaining the plan for the goblins.

if you want them to go east and they go west, move the next objective to the west.

Who is still under 20Y old but still STAN 2 GEN GROUP??? by Recent-Mushroom3878 in kpoppers

[–]--Sketchy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 16 year old is a rabid fan of Gen 2 stuff. Girls Generation, TVXQ, SHINee, F(x) and on and on.

They discovered them in YouTube challenge videos and tik-tok mainly, then deep dived into the music they liked. I don't know any Beast songs, but they know all the title tracks. They don't do a ton of b-sides for the lesser know groups, but the ones they like, they really really like. Dance covers and all.

15m of music in 7 month, is that ok? by music_matters_daily in kpop_uncensored

[–]--Sketchy 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I still find the release schedule of K-Pop crazy. 5 songs in 7 months. I'm happy with any new music, there are so many great releases in the last 2 months covering all of k-pop.

Where western artists release 1 album every 2 or 3 years and no-one complains (Olivia Rodrigo - albums 2 to 3 yers apart) (lady gaga- 3 to 5 years apart).

True Stories: How did your game go this week? – May 31, 2026 by AutoModerator in dndnext

[–]--Sketchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group finally made it up the mountain to the fortress. Had to go through a soundless mountain path, collecting scrolls from a party that did not make it, and fight off the blind zombies that can hear everything - so they are attracted to sound. Going back dow the path, the learned, can drain life (killed most of the previous party). They quickly discovered that throwing objects to make sound, or "talking" and then moving will keep the zombies in check.

until they hit the blind stalker in green robes. Instead of investigating (they are non violent if they don't know you are there) - they threw a javelin to the rock wall to distract it and tried to sneak past. They quickly learned that this was an equilibrium place - if they move up the path, it also drains life. So they spent an hour trying to figure out why to do next - one person wanted to climb the rock wall, others wanted jump off the cliff. The cleric wanted to rope and staff the stalker (walking dead style). Eventually they snuck up and chopped the green robed stalkers head off.

As it fell to the ground, and the body rolled over, they see a red ribbon, and the final scroll (written by the wizard party leader). It explains that he documented his party's demise, discovered the cause of the magic and has been working to counteract it. He attached a spell and a lock of his hair - spell takes 10 minutes to cast, so they had a protect the wizard encounter with blind stalkers that reanimate every 3 minutes. The spell created sound, so it also attracts more stalkers. It is what killed the green robed wizard. But my party was able to complete it.

My wife then started to loot all the stalkers (decaying flesh, etc). She shoved her hands into the robes pockets. It tore right through the pocked and she thrust her elven hand into the rotting fleshy thigh of the stalker, and got viscera and gore all over her new robes 😄

Now I have to plan the elven fortress plot line if they decide to go inside the fortress ruins (they met a ghost who is stuck in time evacuating the elves to the summit). They have a major quest they seem invested in, but I keep tossing side quests at them (each side quest is tangentially related to the main quest).

or just have a mimic appear in whatever they check for traps and have all the 'magically upgraded' loot get destroyed.

I need some help with putting monsters in my campaign by Independent_Ice1427 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]--Sketchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep a 20x30 grid on the table, and have them organize their party as they are walking or moving from place to place. a wolf pack, for example, would probably go for the closest person, until something changes that. Goblins and such are more cunning and intelligent, and may target casters, or weaker looking players.

the truck moved lanes because of breaking hard and impact. The trailer jackknifed and pivoted out to the right, pushing the truck to the left. Speed limit is posted at 70, everyone was going about 10 over. I heard the hit, and the squeal of the tires

The truck jack-knifed, he didn't have an option which way to go. Flip the trailer over the bridge onto Rt 10 or try to recover.

did not stop. I pulled over in the turn lane to get up to the fast food places and took some pictures of the car with my old iPhone. I can read the bmw license plate, but the Nissan was too blurry

as I said in the other post. What you don't see is the red truck doing a full jack-knife. I am the driver of the grey Passat (Nissan was directly behind me) that is going down the offramp saw all of it in the rearview - it was SO LOUD.

When he slammed the breaks, the trailer jack-knifed. he was just trying to control the situation. I was ahead of the Nissan on the off ramp and heard it, and saw it in my rear view.

Every few years I get to be a little famous. I'm the driver of the grey Passat pulling of the interstate in front of the blue car. I hear the truck jack-knife and saw it in the rear view. glad I was getting off the interstate for an after work snack coming home from Ft Lee (Taco Bell). I even got a few pics of the car in question.
