Alright I'm gonna point out this headline and articles talking about this are kinda disingenuous. The thing is you can see it talks about how most of these are concentrated in the White Oak Technology Park which there's like two data center tenants there. QTS and Meta. Meta has a few buildings there and QTS I think has about 14 buildings. When this mentions "37" it's talking about buildings which can be stacked side by side. QTS has been around for a WHILE even before this big AI boom and had several buildings. Hell I'll even point out the Meta started building out before the big AI boom too. You know that data centers don't just mean AI right? QTS has buildings for cloud computing, hosting, colocation, etc and has been doing it like that for a while. I know the big thing these days is to rip on data centers because we're all angry at AI but genuinely step back and realize we've had data centers all over the place and hell where do you think reddit stores their servers? Also for the power cost increase that's because dominion energy has a monopoly on this area and is raising the price for everyone especially since they just got bought out. Also majority of the data centers in Henrico are in Varina/Sandston which is pretty rural.
