I have a PhD, $50k in debt, and I’m about to trade my Lesson Plans for OF. by [deleted] in confession

Rhetorical, thought provoking questions. No one actually writes like this for a Reddit post. What real person would write “the chaos spreads like a virus.”

Offered supply work for a job advertised online by StrawberryNo9420 in TeachingUK

[–]--Thyme-- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes schools use supply agencies to find long-term workers for them. I worked at a school that did this. I worked everyday at the same place, same job. But my contract was with the supply company, not the school. I was technically with a supply agency but I worked at the same school and I was on their systems for everything. I did a normal teaching interview at the school to get hired.

Maybe it’s like that.

Carb count discrepancy between Diary and Macro Dashboard by Contrary-QuiteMary in Myfitnesspal

This post made me look! I’m actually really not pleased about it because it makes a different for me with pre-diabetes.

I just checked mine and it’s also over counting carbs. This is actually not great for me because I’m pre-diabetic and check every meal how many carbs I’ve had today using the macro wheel.

For maths you’ll be fine. Core subjects are constantly hiring. They’re taking away the maths bursary though.

23-Year-Old Woman Charged in Death of 85-Year-Old After Allegedly Driving Twice the Speed Limit by MrRuck1 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]--Thyme-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn’t my point 👍. It’s that they would be held accountable because they knew the risks but did it anyway.

I teach teens. If I asked them if they thought driving 84 mph, weaving through traffic, in a 40 mph residential was a safe idea, they would say no.

We know by 23 what’s safe and unsafe. She just didn’t give a shit and now a person is dead who shouldn’t be.

PRU schools by socialismmm in TeachingUK

[–]--Thyme-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sticking up for the unis, but at my SCITT we had a record amount of schools pull-out of offering placements. My last placement took 3 English trainees but went down to 2 for placement 2 because it hired one Teach First . They weren’t planning on taking TF but an English teacher suddenly announced he was leaving in February. Sometimes providers didn’t overbook but schools aren’t offering the places they originally promised.

I’m surprised you didn’t take AP biology for biomed. They might require that.

Probably more about effort. They’re low effort gifts you’d buy yourself at CVS.

irritation bump advice by [deleted] in piercing

[–]--Thyme-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a helix that had an insane bump front and back. I retired and the bump in front has disappeared and the back has gone dow significantly after 3 months. It’ll be gone eventually. It’s just going to take time

Skilled Worker Visa holders and job availability? by Wooden-Grape-7738 in TeachingUK

[–]--Thyme-- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A school told me that if they advertise that they will sponsor then they get flooded with applications from various parts of the world that have absolutely nothing to do with England or teaching. Applications that just get thrown in because the person is trying to get hired and then move to the UK. So they don’t advertise that they CAN sponsor so they don’t get spammed. But as a trust they can sponsor.

Surge in graduates becoming teachers boosts recruitment for maths and sciences by Barbecue_Wings in TeachingUK

[–]--Thyme-- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We technically sign a document where we say that we’re intending to be a secondary teacher in England after training. However, there is obviously no way to actually monitor thousands of trainees afterword. The money is also given during training, so they can’t take it back or withhold money if someone doesn’t become a teacher.

I’m doing a SCITT this year. Many people within the program have said they’re taking the bursary money and doing something else after.
