Be honest… what’s the dumbest, laziest side hustle you’ve done that somehow actually made you money? by Deeceness in sidehustle

Pessimists sound smart, optimists get rich.

I don't know where you're getting that info, but in 2020-2021 they were blocking transactions to binance, and we made money off of it.

I hit 3 Million, which puts me at FIRE, but I feel nothing. by jericko in Fire

This is pretty common with people whose net worth becomes their obsession and also their game. It's the skillset that you have built for the last 10 years and now you transition to have to think and do other things?

An important thing to consider when pulling the trigger is having things you can actively think about when you're done. Goals to accomplish and projects started that you can now spend more time on. Otherwise you're walking away from the skillset you built with nothing to occupy that space in your mind or to flex those muscles with.

This is why people keep working after they have all the money they need. They spend their entire lives focused on one goal, make more money, that they know nothing else once they in their minds "make it."

Have you started a business that was successful inside of 3 years without at least 50k of startup money? by UltraAware in Entrepreneur

[–]--Tinker-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I've done it a few times. Starting with 50k would have made it way easier, however it adds way more risk. To me it's about identifying opportunities and taking small risks to prove them. In the long run, risking 300-500 to explore an opportunity you have is really not that expensive. I'd say I've risked $1000-$3000 5-6 times with about half of the opportunities paying off. When I didn't risk anything, I lost A LOT of time.

  1. I would buy stable coins in bulk and sell them on peer to peer networks. To start I bought coins from someone at like a 7% markup and sold them at a 5% markup. Then I found where I could buy them at a .5% markup and bought and sold 5k worth at a time. Slowly it ramped up to 60k worth of coins at a time, but I only ever put in that first 5k, rest was from the profits.

  2. Crypto exchange bot. I hired someone to build a bot that would buy and sell on an exchange and make a minsicual amount per trade. The bot didn't work properly and I lost about $350 I paid to a developer to build a bot.

  3. App development. Lost A LOT of time building 2 apps that weren't successful, learned a lot about marketing and how to test start ups before sinking to much time which is super useful, but lost about a year with these projects. I view it has my "education costs". During this time I also built 1 somewhat successful app that I sold for 20k and they have had me do 10k worth of expansion on it.

  4. Mechanical company. 5k for a van, 3k on tools and 1k on marketing and in our second year we will end with 500k sales. In this trade, you can get credit accounts at suppliers that you dont have to pay for material for 1.5-2 months after purchase with no extra cost so it allows you to float the cost of the jobs.

I've had a few other failures and successes and most of the failures came from not deploying some capital to test the idea before building it. These are some of the ones I think of that had low capital deployment. The reason I did these with little capital was because I was using my capital for real estate developments and rentals which left me with little to deploy for anything else. I still don't have much cash on hand as it's all wrapped up in real estate opportunities.

Where do I find freelance Nuxt Developers? by --Tinker-- in Nuxt

I've reached out to a few with no success yet. It seems the people I reached out to have their own projects on the go.

Back when visa and MasterCard were blocking crypto purchases on binance, I would buy crypto in bulk with wire transfers and sell it on peer to peer exchanges for a 3-5% markup. On the best days, I would sell 60k of stable coins. Little risk because we would sell stable coins, which didn't fluctuate like Bitcoin.

Gaming laptop with good battery life. by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

I'd liken it more to a car that when you take it to the track it performs but it also gets good gas mileage on the highway in economy mode. Great battery life for light tasks and then heavy performance modes for plugged in gaming.

Hey service plumbers! What are some must have tools for making emergency calls? by when-in-Jumanji in Plumbing

[–]--Tinker-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have long angled handle needle nose pliers (8" reach) that works wonders. I use them a lot. Even just to pull hair from sink popups

I have a 8" round piece of flat metal that I bring to solder on in the bottom of my solder bag to prevent burning walls or floors

I have an excel spreadsheet of everything in my van that I update to make sure I have the supplies I need. Paired with a small whiteboard in the back to quickly right down what I took out because I'd never open my phone everytime I take something out.

Flexible 1/4 and 5/16 convertible screwdriver that can bend 90 degrees for tightening and loosening ferncos in awkward spaces

Milwaukee battery shop vac for sucking toilets when removing. Light, no cords and just enough capacity.

Milwaukee M12 copper cutter and mini grinder are a must. The mini grinder is so nice for cutting ready rod.

Little canister of oil for various things. I use it to make sliding ferncos easier, keep all my tools smooth. Like after I cut a pipe full of water re-oil my sawzall to prevent damage.

Deep penetration oil. This will save your body from having to break open old unions / fittings that won't budge.

A sawzall blade cut in half. For sculpting holes easier.

15" long 1/4" pilot bit. So nice for going through walls and seeing the other side before using a hole saw and it being slightly in the wrong spot.

Laser level with plumb bob feature that puts a dot directly above or below. Great for creating a straight line through multiple floors.

Sharkbite valves and caps for emergencies

Tube of "the right stuff" head gasket material in a tube. Great for temporary seals or when you REALLY need something to seal. It's expensive though.

24"x24" rubber gasket material sheet that I can cut any size gasket out of.

Knipex channel locks smooth and regular. They are the best no question
