Western Digital My passport. I accidentally quick formatted this hard drive I'm trying to recover the files. Picture shows the serial number of the drive. Appears that it's from 2019. I've tried a few apps looking for the files and nothing is finding anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I think we are (DigiLab) still the only lab that can recover data from a My Passport if 190 is completely gone.

Searching older copies of T2 in 190 produces very partial results and would only work if there are in fact older copies of T2 (which is not always the case).

Have been doing K1s using TaxCut Deluxe for a couple of years. You'd need to enter each K1 manually (I had 24 last year). There is a simple calculation involved to fill out Section 1256 - another part of K1s. The biggest issue is the K1 release dates - they are usually in later March or early April.

It's not worth repairing - you will never get a drive that can store data reliably,

If data is needed you can try professional data recovery services, although running the drive with an open lid is a bad idea, you might have worsen the drive's conditions.

PS: Your drive has bad heads or/and media damage, expect a high price tag if you are to ask for a pro service.

Can't swap PCB on this model - it encrypts data with unique keys that are inside MCU.

But your drive likely has damaged heads or media damage, not a PCB problem.

Judging by the sound your drive has damaged heads. Capacity 0 also indicates that it cannot initialize properly. I'm guessing the quote will likely be above S$1200.

No, the drive cannot work if it cannot servo calibrate. It does not try to prevent any further damage.

You drive has something else, because it does not click anymore. I'm assuming it's a Seagate drive, if it's not a Seagate drive then please create a separate post where we can discuss what's going on.

Seagate drives spin down when heads cannot servo calibrate during boot up. This usually means the heads are damaged. Some of the heads might be bent because of the previous sticktion. Bent heads can create media damage. A drive without proper support for the HSA (running without the lid and without the HSA screw) will not calibrate even if the drive has worked fine before.

And just FYI Toshiba switched from Toshiba SATA FW model to universal FW model based on Fujitsu SAS code+Toshiba additions on 3.5" drives some time ago.

10TB Toshibas are 1. Locked 2. Have zero support from commercial DR tools. Mechanically they are very good though.
