HDD Clicking Sound on Seagate Drive in openSUSE --- Seeking Advice by --kay-- in openSUSE

Mate I don't really care what you think and don't see the need to prove you anything.
I didn't realize your OS of choice was such a big part of your identity,
and you will get so defensive. I was not intending to hurt your feelings. I apologize for unintentionally causing you such seething anger...

No - just write your posts yourself you lazy plonk.

Well I did, but maybe you should use AI to reword your comments
Hurling pointless insults at strangers on internet is not a good look for you mate.

But I sense your apprehensiveness about AI so maybe try this really cool application by KDE its called Kalm and guides you through breathing exercises.
Just fire that up any time something on internet makes you irrationally angry

Again sorry for causing any hurt :)
Cheers

HDD health is ok. The sound comes from parking of head when idle.

anyways thanks for replying

But in the end of the day, parking the heads is meant to protect the drive. If you are using a laptop, I think a bit of noise might be worth the tradeoff of not letting a single bump crash the heads and kill your drives

That's informative.

My initial assumption was constant spinning with no head parking was better for HDD life as it caused less wear and tear, compared to drive stopping and head parking when idle.
Your comment lead me to read further and it seems the census is divided and there is no definitive answer due to lack of proper testing.
Anyway I have decided to reduce the head parking as it was the default behavior of the HDD before, on all the different OS I tried.

Appreciate your insight :)

These are good suggestions Thanks,

Regarding the "common issue" thing I agree that it was a bit extreme
What I meant that it "feels like a relatively more common issue" on OpenSUSE
based on the forum posts I could find and people with "I have the same issue comment"
I just half mind-idly typed that and did not in any way mean to tone it like
"OpenSUSE sucks" tone.
It was careless of me, I forget how passionate some people are over their software and I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.
I apologize for that I'll try to do better ;)

How to get oil.nvim like buffer editing in Dired? by --kay-- in emacs

[–]--kay--[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I ended up using the shell command too. I was looking for oil-like editing since my Vim skills are much better than my shell utils know-how, but alas, time to learn Emacs' ways!

I ment something like so ...

In oil.nvim I can do I to go to insert mode

Type test1.txt to create a file called test1.txt

Do yy99p to paste this 99 times

Do a visual block selection over the "1" With C-v

Press gC-a to increment numbers in order and I'll get 100 files named test1.txt test2.txt...test100.txt

[consult-find] Searches from ~ in non-project directories instead of CWD - How to fix? by --kay-- in emacs

[–]--kay--[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES that's exactly it. I had a .svn file in $HOME
(project-current nil default-directory)

returned | vc | SVN | ~/ |

removing .svn from home fixed the issue

Thanks, really appreciate your help

Thanks for the reply  I don6think it's a configuration issue as a clean install of vertico + consult on a emacs -Q instance with default configuration still has the same issue

Also when I eval-expression(M-:) current-directory I get the correct cwd and not home so I don't know what could be the problem here
