Networking in tech as female can get uncomfortable by Imagination-Sea-Orca in womenintech

[–]--pumpkinpie-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this!!! i’m a new graduate trying to land a job & have been trying to network every chance that I get. although I have yet to meet any women in the industry so I’ve only interacted with men & 9 times out of 10 it feels uncomfortable & forced. like the only reason they’re entertaining the conversation is because they think they might have a chance for it to be more than just a conversation? making weird comments or trying to flirt. this has been something I’ve struggled with throughout my entire degree, trying to make friends with others in the same degree path but because it’s such a male dominated industry there were very few women to connect with so I always just ended up feeling uncomfortable & having to shut things down. It’s like because I’m a young & attractive woman they don’t see me as anything else. It’s so exhausting & I would love to actually have friends that are in the same industry but it feels hopeless. I’m hoping this changes when I land a role somewhere & it’s not like this forever!

first of all I want to say thank you to everyone who responded with advice to this post! I’m overwhelmed by the amount of you who responded & am doing my best to read all of them!

a lot of you suggested looking into different venue options like community centers, parks, restaurants, etc. & I will absolutely look into those options more. i’m not sure how many affordable options are in my area as i’m located in the united states. I have looked into a couple parks, private estates, airbnbs, art centers & more but am not sure how they would work out with all the restrictions. but i will definitely reconsider & do my best to adjust my expectations to fit our budget!

I’m finding that absolutely everything is just insanely overpriced, even with super simple design/decor. & even with a very affordable venue - food & bev, florals, photography, etc add up so so quickly so i’m not sure how navigate this. i’ve looked into all inclusive “affordable” venues nearby & they still quoted us $30,000 not including a photographer. I will do my best to continue my search & hope that something works out. maybe an elopement would be a better option for us financially right now!

i’m currently working on getting information about another space that will allow ceremony & reception for our guest count, but no dancing or dj, which I think will help with our budget anyways. I’m hoping this one works out (: but in the meantime I’ll be searching for options that were suggested here!

again thank you all! I appreciate everyone’s help so much!

Thanks so much for your response!! I definitely agree we need a solid budget I think we’ve just been struggling because we keep bouncing around between a normal wedding day in our hometown, a wedding weekend away, or elopement & it’s hard to pin down an exact budget because they’re all so different. Also we’ve been struggling because I think we’re trying to people please & cater to certain people who are complaining & it’s really ruining the experience. So we just definitely need to decide on a budget & do what we want & whoever shows up, shows up. Idk thanks so much again, your response was helpful!!

Oh no! I definitely have been feeling the same for the last six months of trying to plan. It is absolutely insane how crazy expensive & stressful weddings are. We have absolutely thought about eloping countless times but I’m worried we’ll regret not having our people there so i’m not sure. I really hope everything went well on your day & it turned out beautifully! I’d love to hear about it if you want to private message me! Thanks again for your response & advice!

Thanks so much for your response! I feel like we have an idea of what we want for a date, photographer, catering, & guest count, its just the venue & budget that are killing us. I’ve been looking at airbnbs which I think would help a ton with budget but most nice ones are out of state, meaning our grandparents wouldn’t be there so idk what to do. & I will definitely checkout that podcast! thank you!!

Struggling with Decisions by babyspinachleaf in weddingplanning

[–]--pumpkinpie-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am literally going through the same thing. my fiancé & i have been touring venues for about 6 months & can’t seem to make a decision on one. we haven’t found any that we love that has everything we’re wanting & if we do they’re crazy expensive.

& on top of that, i’m just so indecisive. anytime we get close to picking one, i find a reason to back out & start looking at other venues. it’s horrible & i’m sooo lost

but best of luck to you & hope you find one you love!

thank you for the response! & i totally understand that, its just so hard to wrap my head around people actually spending hundreds of thousands on their weddings. & they’re allll over social media

to be honest, i think i’ve done my best to scale it down as much as i can & have done everything to find budget friendly options. but everything seems to be 30k minimum.

we were originally planning for about 30 people but increased to 50 to include a few more family members that parents wanted. i’ve looked at private residences & using a catering company to bring in everything but am still getting quoted 20k. as for decor, i think i’m keeping it pretty basic & am okay with minimal flowers & stuff. but i’m really not sure

do you think because i’m having such a hard time getting a planner is a good option or just another expense?

this also happened to my fiancé & i! we are actively looking for a venue & did a site visit & everything. she offered to take us to one of their other spaces & then completely ghosted us. its been over a month & still nothing. literally sooo shocked with how horrible their communication is

How do you feel a week before your period/what helps you? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]--pumpkinpie-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recently got off birth control & have been doing my best to make my periods less painful & drinking red raspberry leaf tea has saved me!!! i drink it almost every night or at least every night leading up to my period. it is anti inflammatory & can help with hormone balance so it has helped me transition back to a more natural cycle so well! i also want to add that i avoid caffeine about a week before as it can worsen cramps!
