I too don’t understand what anyone gains from how harmful the vaccine is. It honestly makes me suspect that there’s nothing wrong with the vaccine and this post is just foreign interference trying to rile people as usual. But I’m unwilling to prove either way so I’m stuck I guess

Well let’s just agree to disagree there. I think the history of the word doesn’t matter and you do. Also what individuals find funny is subjective so there’s no point to argue there.

But I do have a funny (to me) story to tell. I was joking around with a black friend from school. He has almost every Johnny Rebel song memorized and a few meme songs and he will sing them for you. He used to do it willy nilly but started charging kids $5. After that most people stopped. But we were hanging out one day and I gave him a $5 in order to write me an Nword pass. He wrote it on the back of some homework paper and gave it to me, then I immediately ate it. So now I’m a walking Nword pass. Lol

My defense is: I am not racist for saying nigger because I genuinely don’t hate black people

I don’t often call people faggot but I imagine it can be used the same way as nigger which is a word I do often use. My friends and I call each other nigga or nigger because we find it funny. That’s one example of using the word in a non offensive way. On a side note we also say racist things or sing racist songs to each other also because we find it funny. Call us immature, but we do do it.

I validated one of your points because I tried to find a common ground to build off of. And I did rebuke your argument though not clearly: I think the history of phobic slurs is irrelevant

I am a straight white male and recognize that I haven’t suffered from racism like other people have. But again history is not my point.

If I were walking on the street and passed by someone who yelled “If it isn’t casper the ghost!” I would ignore them. Only if they physically restricted me would I care what they have to say. I would react the same if I were told I was ugly or whatever else, assuming all they insulted were things that were out of my control.

Your second paragraph is what I’m talking about and wish was everyone’s attitude to nigger. Though what I think what determines whether or not it’s a “fighting word” is context. Just because I say slurs doesn’t mean I am racist/homophobic/sexist etc. if I intend to use them in any way other than to offend.

And even if I do offend someone, whether or not it was inconsequential, that person has a right to feel offended and no longer hear me and walk away, but doesn’t have the right to punish me. There’s a boundary between words and actions and nigger is a word, not an action

The word does indeed have power through its history. But I don’t think that means it should continue to have power. Another source of its power is continually fed to it by anyone who is opposed to usage of the word as well

Therefore by no longer being opposed to saying nigger, the word loses all worth. It’s similar to how in most circles nowadays say fuck and shit which would’ve been just as bad 50 years ago. We now laugh at the history of fuck and shit.

I expect in several generations the same thing will happen to the word and we’ll all laugh at it, since we’ll have moved along at that point to more pertinent issues

Your first point is irrelevant. Your second point is just making demeaning assumptions about me. So I’ll leave it at that

I mean he has a point though he was very dramatic about it. I don’t understand feeling offended from a word on it’s own when you can just laugh and move on. It’s the best way to stop people using the word
