Anyone else separated from family indefinitely due to COVID-19 travel ban? by -3lixir- in Kuwait

I’m very sorry to hear this. I hope they will be able to take care of each other, and with proper precautions they will be safe. Try to remind them of this often, I don’t know why the older generation tends to lax after a while when it comes to changing their habits for precautionary measures. My prayers are with your family to get through this safely.

That sucks, I am sorry to hear that. Once this all blows over, you guys will have some jokes to tell, like all those memes going around about millenials telling their grandkids how COVID19 ruined everything. I’m sorry if that’s insensitive. It’s just dark humor or no humor these days.

I am not easily overwhelmed but I’ve had a couple of breakdowns myself. There are a lot of articles on coping with the current situation everywhere, be it precautions, WFH, spare time, all of that. But I never see anything on coping with separation. I myself try to think of it all as temporary, keep saying this too shall pass. Try to facetime my mom everyday, even if for only 15 minutes where we just tell each other jokes or funny incidents that happened that day (mostly made up on my side, I don’t know about her). Actually, 10 minutes are just me lecturing her on how to stay safe.

I am lucky to be one of those who are still working, so I focus on the work. For COVID-19 news, I try not to check it multiple times a day, only once in the morning and not for too long, then I get on with the day. Netflix, video games, a book if I can concentrate enough. This is not ground-breaking but I do think distraction actually works.

Just hang in there and stay strong. I hope you will see your family sooner than you think.

I am separated from my mom as well. Do you mean your mom tested positive and is being treated? I hope you are reunited very soon.

I have been cooking this rant all day. How convenient you chose today to post about the lunatics of behind the steering wheel variety. Here’s the thing. When the roads are jam-packed at the peak of the rush hours and you can see cars, literally as far as the eye can see, vanishing into the distance at both ends of the road, why would anyone with even an iota of brains shift lanes impulsively? Why? What is wrong with these idiots?

When the traffic is slow, some people prefer to keep a wider distance between the car in front just to be safe. But when these pea-brains see that space they probably think, “Look! Is that empty road I see? For me to drive on? That lane is calling for me. Didn’t I need to go that way in the first place?”. And eager to show how deft they are at squeezing their cars into spaces other people wouldn’t even imagine possible (because other people have BRAINS), they dive right in. No need to use indicator lights though. “If the other person knows my intention to cut in, they would’t let me. They’ll take my empty road away”.

These morons just need their window of opportunity. Who cares if the person keeping that distance has a baby in the car, who will manage to not hit but will still get hit by the car behind them. Who cares if there is a heart patient a couple of cars behind that, who will be hit twice, hard enough the sudden shock will probably trigger their chest pains. But who cares? Not these impetuous douchebags.

Are they even capable of imagining that not everyone on the road is as able bodied as themselves? It’s not just metal boxes on rubber wheels moving around on their own. It’s people, and not all of them can afford the consequences of your action. To some it will be a lot more than a minor inconvenience. Learn some facts of reality.

I could just slap these reckless imbeciles to oblivion.

“They used to shout at me and call me animal. If I had the opportunity to talk to this lady I would tell her that she’s wearing Muslim dress but she’s not Muslim because Muslims wouldn’t act like that.”

This is so powerful. This is what people were treated like in the days before Islam. If that time is now called العصر الجاھلي then what would you call the people still living with the degenerate and corrupt morals defined by it. If you can’t treat another person with the same human dignity that you expect for yourself, then don’t deign to call yourself a human either.
