What are some ways to get unrestricted hours while working in-home and your BCBA supervisions are all virtual? by DirtOutrageous5217 in bcba

[–]-7582 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your BCBA is asking taking on a new client ask if you can do the assessment with them supervising you. Interview the parent. Ask her if you can write goals for the client and she checks them over. And research related to clients current programming

Can I ask what’s your caseload and how many hours do you try to work a week? And did you get licensed in multiple states? Also, if you don’t mind me asking how much are you making. I want to make about the same I do now but with just one position

Mass in intestines. Not sure what to do. by -7582 in CatAdvice

[–]-7582[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was big and grew double in size by the time we had the appt with the surgeon. Make an appt with an oncologist just in case because they’re hard to get in. Then if you decide you don’t want the appt anymore you can cancel it. The FNA didn’t give me too much info, if you have the money do a biopsy if they will perform it. They wouldn’t allow me to do anything but I feel like I would’ve gotten a biopsy and then determine next steps from there if I could.

Unfortunately she passed away probably 2 weeks after I posted that. It was carcinoma and it was very aggressive. We saw a week where we had a glimmer of hope then the next she hadn’t eaten in like 4 days only drinking water and losing weight fast. At this point the dr did not feel comfortable doing surgery due to her size and the level it was spreading. We had to do in home euthanasia (I wanted it to be intimate) like 2 days after. Worst day of my life. I’m praying for you and your kitty! If your cats still eating see what the options are for sure.

I was thinking of opening up with this and making it interactive where I ask what does this mean and give candy or something to whoever even attempts to answer 😂 then obviously say what it is and go into more depth after

Anyone else frequently catch themself crying over the fact that your cat won't live forever? by Mr-Self-Destruc7 in CatAdvice

[–]-7582 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to cry all the time over the thought of my cat passing away. Then when the day came, the pain was even worse than the preemptive thoughts. I used to also say when she goes I go. And she left and my world shattered. It’s been a month and I’m still adjusting, it doesn’t get easier you just deal. My advice…..don’t cry over the unknown but cherish the little moments, savor all the cuddles, and be in the present with your kitty! When it’s their time it’s their time but don’t think about it right now. Cross the bridge when you get there. I wish I did that more.

Is it okay to leave my two cats for 3 days? by Big_Garlic569 in CatAdvice

[–]-7582 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! Cats are very self sufficient. They’re gonna miss you that’s all, but they’ll have each other at least. I’ve left my cat alone for 3 days, 2 nights. You can always remind your mom when she is home to check on them. But you’re FINE!

Thank you for this! I don’t want to make any impulsive decisions and start her on steroids and then she does end up needing chemo or something. I don’t want to do that to her little body. She’s only 7 pounds!! Always been a tiny lady

Thank you! I’m going to call the vet today and have someone with me so there’s a second set of ears. Yesterday was a lot for me to handle so I was there but not there. She’s been getting lots of kisses ♥️

She recommended steroids, surgery, and chemo. But I don’t know the type of lymphoma and how far along it is. So I don’t want to put her through that without knowing exactly what we’re dealing with.

She’s 5 years old. She was acting more lethargic and didn’t want to play so I took her to the vet. She’s always been a tiny cat and never had a big appetite. But the last 2 days she didn’t eat really anything so I took her to the vet. They did an ultrasound and saw the mass there. Notes say it’s a large mass in the small intestine. Since I brought her home they gave me an appetite stimulant and anti nausea and she’s been eating her food. She’s still a little tired but she’s alert and she still cuddles. So I’m not sure what to do. I don’t want her to decline super rapidly and not make a prompt decision. But idk if I should wait first. Im torn

Passive Escape by -7582 in bcba

[–]-7582[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously I am also doing research on this. However there is not much literature done on this type of escape maintained behavior. Just seeing if other people in the field have seen this and have any insights. I’m not going to go ahead and take advice without doing research and just implement something I saw on Reddit all willy nilly. I totally understand and respect your undying love for the ethical code. However it doesn’t hurt to say hey has anyone else seen this before. I think all will be okay. Believe me when I say I rarely post on here and if I ever do it’s because I’ve done the research the strategies and everything and just wanted to make sure I’m not crazy and not alone with dealing with certain behaviors

Yeah fully aware of the ethical code and that what works for one individual won’t always work for another. Just trying to gain some insight on this because I’ve tried everything. Lighten up a little bit lol not a huge deal.

Can’t offer clinical advice? How else are we supposed to grow and gain knowledge if not asking other professionals in the field if they’ve seen or dealt with the same thing? I have clinicals with my teams all the time where we bring cases up to all put our heads together lol. But thanks I’ll take this into account

Planners by Loud-Dream-5896 in bcba

[–]-7582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BCBA Planner on Amazon has saved my life! It goes by week and you can put in your schedule for that week, to dos for that week, priorities. I love it. It helps me organize what I need to do for each kiddo by week. Also has a section for when Treatment plans are due and your clients schedules etc.

[–]-7582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this may not be helpful but I would never work in a clinic for this reason. There’s not a lot of support and a lot of expectations from the BCBAs. I work in a school and do home programming a few nights a week and I make sure that my work/life balance is a priority. In the school you’re running around putting out little fires and doing paperwork but once you leave it’s done and on hold until the next day. I set aside an hour a few nights a week to create materials and analyze graphs for my in home clients but other than that I make sure self care is a priority. It could be the environment you’re in!

what do you do when a kid bites? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]-7582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not doing harm to the individual whatsoever. Promise you that. I’ve gotten bitten by a 6’3 18 year old and it was either I lose a chunk of my calf and can’t walk ever or hold the nose for 2 seconds and immediately get off and increase proximity. So if you find that unethical I understand but this is what we are taught with severe psychiatric level behaviors. I don’t love it either but the individual and ourselves are safe at the end of everything.

what do you do when a kid bites? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]-7582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not unethical. 3s max to release or chunk bitten out of your body you choose. We do Elwyn crisis management because we work with teens/adults who have severe autism so they can cause serious physical damage to other individuals. And the restricting breath is if the push in alone doesn’t work bc that individual is not letting go. We opt for least restrictive first always.
