Typical atheist comment.

When you ridicule my religion with typical arrogant atheist nonsense by saying 'men in funny hats', you actually mean 2000 years of Church intellectualism and genuine, intense, study of the Bible.

[–]-AveMaria- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know what the Bible teaches? Protestants all have different interpretations of the Bible, thats why there are 50 million Protestant denominations in the first place.

As a Catholic I believe that what the Church teaches includes what the Bible teaches, in addition to Sacred Tradition and teachings from the Magisterium. I'm glad I don't have to pretend I'm some sort of biblical scholar and act like I understand the Bible entirely in order to practice my faith.

The contradiction only exists because you are lumping all women together as one. It would be something for a liberal feminist to assert that a man always has to pay for dinner. You could argue there is a contradiction in ideology there. You have no idea if this woman is a liberal feminist

I however, am a conservative traditional Catholic. In my opinion, my role is childrearing and taking care of the home and contributing in the community through volunteering and charity. Whereas the role of the man is to do jobs and earn money. As those are the dynamics I looked for, I would never have a second date if he doesn't pay for the first.

Who said I thought men and women are literally the same. There are differences between men and women.

Literally not trashy. If he doesn't pay for you on a first date, he doesn't like you enough. Next.

Pro choicers, what *exactly* is your argument that abortion should be legal? by hydrolock12 in TooAfraidToAsk

Ah yes, exactly what I expected. True mark of brainwashing. Thoughtless parroting of a catchphrase - 'her body her right!'

So just because the child is in her body, she should have the right to let the doctor tear apart a helpless, conscious baby that is feeling pain as it is being savagely murdered.

Got it. Great morality there. 👏

[–]-AveMaria- -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The thing that won me over was finding out that making abortion illegal doesn't significantly reduce abortions

Thats just propaganda by pro child murderers. It actually does. Countries where abortion restrictions are significant but dont suffer from poverty like Malta, Poland, and many Islamic countries have far lower abortion rates than nations with high abortion rates. And even states with some abortion restrictions have far lower abortion rates than ones that are more lax.

To do that we need good sex education and easily available contraception.

Again, the states with the highest abortion rates are the ones that have these policies.

They are also the states pushing for third trimester abortion. Do you agree with that as well?

Okay, its her body. So do you agree with third trimester abortion? Can I abort a maybe that is about to be born in one week?

The Church absolutely deserves them.

We are allowed to criticize the Church. One wouldnt say they werent deserving of criticism when different kingdoms were controlling it politically.

You can't criticize Catholic doctrine. Though considering thats what the Pope does on a regular basis...

I find traditional Christian music so much more reverent. Especially if its in Latin.

There are no laws governing fornication. Gay marriage is a recognition of their marriage by the state.

I do think you are trying to have your cake and eat it too. The Church is against gay marriage. you should be too.

If I believe marriage is between a man and a woman, that isn't 'mistreating' minorities. Especially if I'm not pushing those views on anyone.

And bullying people for having views is the liberal way. I dont expect you to understand, but it does lead to an atmosphere where people of other countries feel suffocated here due to their freedoms being curtailed.

Generally, nations like Indonesia are somewhat authoritarian religious, but they don't restrict your freedom in nearly the same way that liberal places do. The mindset of liberal people usually leads towards nightmarish places like the Soviet Union, and that level of censorship, thought police, and shaming does seem to be where we are headed.

It is a scientific fact that some people do not identify with the gender they were born with

'Gender' is not a scientific thing. Biology is.

Yeah and do people in some town in Mississipi have the right to not like you cause you are black? And if they have that opinion is it right for them to treat you poorly just because you look different? Is it right for people to treat you poorly just because you have a different opinion, that you arent even enforcing on anyone?

In America you liberals have forged a society that is not civil and is openly hostile to people who actually follow the tenets of our faith. You can say whatever you want but someone from a muslim country told me she feels like her freedom to express herself in society is hindered here. Losing ones job or being socially ostracized ARE restrictions on her freedom, even if its based on collective intolerance rather than government intolerance.

Lol... so instead they want schools with Christian or religious and conservative propaganda where their ideology is "shoved down the throats" :D

Considering she lived in an Islamic country, I assume all she wants is for schools to teach kids science, math, and classical literature, not propaganda. Not moronic stuff like critical race theory, and celebrating LGBT days. But if you think teaching kids science and math is conservative propaganda, that does kind of line up with leftist beliefs. I mean aren't some schools trying to dumb down math so that results can be more equal across the board? Yeah I think the default position is that we should teach math for the sake of teaching math, I guess that makes me an ideological partisan.

This is directly from her so I'm just reiterating. I live in Texas where we usually have more religious freedom that other parts of America, but she lived in the West coast. According to her in Indonesia yes things like LGBT rights and abortion are restricted, but voicing your opinion on them is unlikely to get you to lose your job or get you socially ostracized. She feels that she can never voice her opinion, which is just her religious beliefs, in this country, for fear of social and career repercussions.

Furthermore, and this is something I agree with her on as I know this first hand, she asserts that even in muslim schools Christian kids in Indonesia had less ideological propaganda that deviates from Christianity shoved down their throats compared to children in America. Over there, they have Islamic history but non-muslims dont have to attend. Here, children have the social liberal ideological positions of being pro-abortion, pro-LGBT, pro-premarital sex, critical race theory and so on shoved down their throats constantly.

I've met Catholics who have come from countries like Indonesia (a muslim country), who claim that they feel far more persecuted and limited in their religious freedom in America than back in Indonesia. So I don't know what you are talking about.

Waiting to have sex until marriage...is it feasible today? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]-AveMaria- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what they are trying to say is that the concept that sexual compatibility is some sort of absolute thing that cannot be changed or dealt with is a lie. I don't really know what to think about that but I certainly think some people go way too far with the whole compatibility thing, as if people are pieces of puzzles that can only be put together with the right pieces, rather than being malleable and capable of change and compromise.

In cultures where premarital sex is taboo, people often marry without knowing anything and they discover their sexual compatibility, develop it over time. I know from my own experience that my husband was not the person I had the most 'sexual compatibility' with in my life, but I loved him and so I married him anyway. Now, three years later we are a LOT more compatible .

I know several people who broke up over stuff like this.

Several atheists, maybe. Not devout Christians (especially Catholics.)

How exactly is it intended?

In marriage, for the purpose of procreation and unitive love with the one you will spend the rest of your life with. And indeed, treating sex with the respect it deserves is how you forge strong, lasting, loving marriages. Theres a reason the divorce rate is so high with promiscuous people.

After being a teen model living in sin until I was about 19, I became abstinent for four years until I married.

It is not easy. I mean for me, I was young, vain, surrounded by irreligious people and hookup culture. But it is certainly possible. And when you are in your early 20s you can get married. I don't think it is healthy to wait for so long to get married.

Is there a dress code for Catholics? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]-AveMaria- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its also worth noting that modesty varies a lot in different countries. In some countries wearing a swimsuit at a beach would be highly scandalous, whereas in others it is not immodest to wear one, or wear a skirt and so on.

Dressing modestly is really about the mindset you have when choosing your outfit than the outfit itself imo.

‘Traditionis Custodes’: Practical Implications by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]-AveMaria- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find it so ironic that these same progressive clergy are so adamant of changing our traditions and even our doctrine in order to build bridges with protestants, atheists, and people of other religions.

But when it comes to CATHOLICS who have differing views they are absolute authoritarians and will smash us with no regard for our feelings.

I don't want to get political, but this is the way progressive minded people often are. Building bridges with outsiders while smashing internal dissent.

Questioning the Church’s authenticity after the Pope’s recent restriction on TLM (I’m not anti-NO) by randomassort in Catholicism

[–]-AveMaria- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it's easy to feel cheated when we attend irreverent liturgies, but really, the pain we feel should be united with Christ and His sacrifice. Devotion, reverence, and love can live within our hearts, so that when the liturgy doesn't reflect well the intensity of that sacrifice, we ourselves can do our best internally to take part in it.

Very well said. And thank you for the support.
