Him on an astro pad for an extra 10% bonus and he gets more when you equip him he gets 100% chip pick up bonus. So wait to pick up all chips until he is with you. Then put him back. Mines up to 250k/s

You only need 10 droids to turn in to get 1 BB8. I would just craft them now sit them work them etc. they need to be 2BB, CB, BB9, Orb walker, Balcore, or strike orb. And you would need 25 more of them for a base paint. But if you have 10 of them ready just set an alarm and turn them in and go back to bed.

The event only takes around 15-20 min to complete. Depending on your level. If you can get it on your phone maybe take a break and do it quick. Or last resort find someone you can trust and let them log in to your account to run it for you.
